    The Effect of Nano-TiO2 and CaF2 Additives on Formulation and Properties of SiO2-Li2O Glass-Ceramics

    Abstract
    The goal of the present study is to analyze the effect of CaF2 and nano-TiO2 as additives on formulation and properties of common dental glass-ceramics. To achieve the goal, a glass system based on SiO2-Al2O3-Li2O-K2O-P2O5-ZnO-ZrO2 was considered to produce glass-ceramic samples and the additives, nano-TiO2 and CaF2, with the 0.5, 1, and 1.5 %Wt was added to the system. After the melting process, the glass samples poured in the water and ferrite was produced. In the next step, the ferrite was milled and pressed.     Abstract
    This paper discusses a novel and detailed approach for dynamic modeling and control design of a coupled hydraulic dynamometer/turbine-engine system. This study presents a comprehensive model to reveal the coupling effects and an adaptive multiobjective controller to ensure a safe and reliable operation. A fuzzy-based strategy is employed to dynamically adjust the controller gains to keep the state variables and power loading within the desirable operational limits. This approach uses the dynamometer inlet, outlet, and trim valves as well as the turbine fuel flow rate and bleed valve in order to control the system performance during the engine testing process.     Abstract
    We propose a range-free localization framework in which a network of randomly deployed acoustic sensors can passively use natural acoustic phenomena within its environment to localize itself. We introduce a novel approach for registration of sensors observations which takes advantage of a clustering technique on triplets of associated observations. A Bayesian filtering method is employed to incrementally improve system state estimation as more observations become available. To the best of our knowledge this is the first work done on range-free passive acoustic localization. Simulation experiments of the proposed algorithms are presented. © 2008 IEEE

    Zinc-bromine redox flow batteries are promising for large-scale energy storage applications due to their high energy density and open-circuit voltage. Proposed models for predicting these batteries' performance are limited due to challenges such as zinc deposition during the charging step and the utilization of a complexing agent.     Abstract
    In this letter, a new approach to perform edge detection is presented using an all-dielectric complimentary metal-oxide-semiconductor-compatible metasurface. Our design is based on the guided-mode resonance, which provides a high quality factor resonance to make the edge detection experimentally realizable. The proposed structure is easy to fabricate, and it can be exploited for detection of edges in two dimensions due to its symmetry. In addition, a tradeoff between gain and the resolution of edge detection is discussed, which can be adjusted using appropriate design parameters.
