Abstract
The simple-shear condition is closer to reality than the direct-shear condition for simulating the mechanical behavior of vegetated soil slope under shallow failure. However, study on simple-shear characteristics for vegetated slope is still insufficient, and there lacks intuitive comparison of characteristics between these two shear conditions. In this study, large-scale simple-shear and direct-shear experiments were conducted on soil permeated by roots of Amorpha fruticosa to investigate the shear strength and stiffness. The stress-displacement relationship of each sample was obtained and further normalized to unify the influence of root content. The results reveal that the direct-shear...

Abstract
The thickness of shallow landslides is generally less than 2 m, which is of the same order of magnitude as the growth range of vegetation roots. Vegetation roots can improve the stability of shallow soil through mechanical and hydraulic effects. Therefore, the landslide process is closely related to the plant roots growing on the slope surface. Plant roots play a dominant role in the regulation of soil suction through solar radiation induced transpiration. However, little is known about the correlation between cumulative solar radiation and soil suction. Moreover, the specific effects of fine roots on the suction distribution are not clear in most previous studies. In this study, a vegetated...

Abstract
In this research, electrically performance, vibration/resonance characteristics, low-velocity impact, and absorbed energy of the piezoelectric doubly curved panel on the viscoelastic substrate is carried out. For modeling the contact force between the structure and impactor, Hertz contact theory is presented. Hamilton's principle and first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) are presented for obtaining the governing and boundary condition equations of the structure under the low-velocity impact. Galerkin and Newmark solution procedures are presented for solving the governing equation in displacement, and time domains, respectively. This study's novelty is considering the effect of...

Abstract
The aeroelastic flutter characteristics of a functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) truncated conical shell under simultaneous actions of a hydrostatic pressure and yawed supersonic airflow are scrutinized. The nonlinearity in geometry of the conical shell is considered in Green–Lagrange sense and the model is derived according to the Novozhilov nonlinear shell theory. The aerodynamic pressure is modeled based on the quasi-steady Krumhaar's modified supersonic piston theory by considering the effect of the panel curvature and flow yaw angle. Parametric studies are conducted to investigate the effects of boundary conditions, semi-vertex angle, distribution and...

Abstract
The present research deals with bifurcation and vibration responses of a composite truncated conical shell with embedded single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) subjected to an external pressure and axial compression simultaneously. The distribution of reinforcements through the thickness of the shell is assumed to be either uniform or functionally graded. The equations of motion are established using Green-Lagrange type nonlinear kinematics within the framework of Novozhilov nonlinear shell theory. Linear membrane prebuckling analysis is conducted to extract the prebuckling deformations. The stability equations are derived by applying the adjacent equilibrium criterion to the prebuckling...

Abstract
In this study, we perform numerical simulations to investigate the thermal and flow characteristics of a parabolic trough solar collector equipped with a porous receiver tube and internal longitudinal fins. The heat transfer medium is a synthetic oil-Cu-Al2O3 hybrid nanofluid. We examine the thermal characteristics of the nanofluid in response to variations in several system parameters. We find that at Reynolds numbers between 5 × 103 and 5 × 105, increasing the volume fraction of Cu nanoparticles can increase the temperature gain at the exit of the receiver tube by 6.4%. Furthermore, the temperature gradient in the cross-section of the collector increases as the direct normal solar...

Abstract
Porphyrin-POM hybrid materials with excellent NLO properties are supposed to be a worthy entrant for forthcoming telecommunication, optical fibers, optical data storage and optical limiting devices, but due to adverse solubility problems, they are replaced by polymeric materials. Herein, we assessed third order NLO and second hyperpolarizability of porphyrin-polyimide compounds (NH-PI and Zn-PI) synthesized from the reaction of 4,4ʹ-hexafluoroisopropylidene-diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) with C44H32N6 (NH-DATPP) and C44H30N4Zn (Zn-DATPP) porphyrins under ambient conditions. The Z-scan measurement of these compounds revealed reverse saturation absorption as well as self-defocusing performance....

Abstract
A 12 bit 25 MS/S pipelined analog-to-digital (A/D) converter was designed and simulated using 0.35 μm CMOS technology. The proposed new high speed class AB opamp makes it possible to achieve requirements of 12 bit resolution and settling in 20 ns within 0.05% accuracy. However, pipeline ADCs are tolerant to comparator's offset, but using dynamic comparators, power dissipation can be reduced. So a dynamic comparator is designed which is more power efficient. Total power dissipation is about 76 mW from a single 3 V supply, where INL and DNL are 0.8 LSB and 0.6 LSB respectively. A SNDR of 70.1 dB is achieved. © 2003 IEEE

Abstract
In this paper a new low-voltage two-stage class-AB line driver for ADSL applications is presented. The new proposed line-driver consists of only two stages with a new method to control the quiescent current of the output stage. The low-voltage full-CMOS high-linear line driver shows -77 dB THD for a load as low as 20 ohms. The line driver has variable gain, attenuating the input signal from 0dB to -14dB with 2dB steps. The peak to peak differential output swing is 4.2-V from a 2.5-V Supply voltage in a 0.25um standard CMOS technology

Abstract
This work focused on the design of new pH-responsive nanoparticles for controlled delivery of anticancer drug doxorubicin (Dox). Nanoparticles of poly(methacrylic acid)-polysorbate 80-grafted starch (PMAA-PS 80-g-St) were synthesized by using a one-pot method that enabled simultaneous grafting of PMAA and PS 80 onto starch and nanoparticle formation in an aqueous medium. The particles were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, TEM, DLS, and potentiometric titration. Dox loading and in vitro release from the nanoparticles were investigated. The FTIR and 1H NMR confirmed the chemical composition of the graft terpolymer. The nanoparticles were relatively spherical with narrow size distribution and...

Abstract
This paper reports on the NTIRE 2021 challenge on perceptual image quality assessment (IQA), held in conjunction with the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement workshop (NTIRE) workshop at CVPR 2021. As a new type of image processing technology, perceptual image processing algorithms based on Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) have produced images with more realistic textures. These output images have completely different characteristics from traditional distortions, thus pose a new challenge for IQA methods to evaluate their visual quality. In comparison with previous IQA challenges, the training and testing datasets in this challenge include the outputs of perceptual image...

Abstract
An ultra-low-voltage low-power high-speed class-AB operational amplifier with a new structure is presented. A new technique called "Slew Boost" is introduced to improve amplifier's large-signal settling behavior, most useful in switched-capacitor circuits such as pipelined ADCs, sigma delta modulators, etc. The proposed op-amp has been designed to be employed in the first stage of a 10bit 150MSamples/sec pipelined analog-to-digital converter. Simulation results of the proposed fully-differential class-AB op-amp using 0.18um CMOS process models, confirm that it has an output swing of 1.5 Vp-p and consumes less than 1mW from a single supply of 1 volt

Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel idea on actuation system in micropumps. The prominent goal of this paper is to propose and prove a mechanical actuation system which works in high frequency and has good ability in producing flow and pressure in micro actuation system. As like as other common micropumps, the proposed scheme is consisted of two check valves and an actuation space. The actuation space includes a volume of liquid in a chamber and a cylindrical membrane as the actuator. The main aspect of this idea is employment of buckling as a consequence of incensement of its internal pressure caused by temperature rising in the membrane. Rise of temperature is done by passing a controllable...

Abstract
The lipid bilayer plays a crucial role in gating of mechanosensitive (MS) channels. Hence it is imperative to elucidate the rheological properties of lipid membranes. Herein we introduce a framework to characterize the mechanical properties of lipid bilayers by combining micropipette aspiration (MA) with theoretical modeling. Our results reveal that excised liposome patch fluorometry is superior to traditional cell-attached MA for measuring the intrinsic mechanical properties of lipid bilayers. The computational results also indicate that unlike the uniform bilayer tension estimated by Laplace's law, bilayer tension is not uniform across the membrane patch area. Instead, the highest tension...

Abstract
Microchannels in hydrogels play an essential role in enabling a smart contact lens. However, microchannels have rarely been created in commercial hydrogel contact lenses due to their sensitivity to conventional microfabrication techniques. Here, we report the fabrication of microchannels in poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (poly(HEMA)) hydrogels that are used in commercial contact lenses with a three-dimensional (3D) printed mold. We investigated the corresponding capillary flow behaviors in these microchannels. We observed different capillary flow regimes in these microchannels, depending on their hydration level. In particular, we found that a peristaltic pressure could reinstate flow in...
