The modification of cast AL-Mg2Si in SITU MMC by lithium

    , Article TMS 2009 Annual Meeting and Exhibition, San Francisco, CA, 16 February 2009 through 19 February 2009 ; 2009 , Pages 165-172 ; 9780873397353 (ISBN) Hadian, R ; Emamy, M ; Campbell, J ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Abstract The effects of both Lithium modification and cooling rate on the microstructure and tensile properties of an in-situ prepared Al-15% Mg2Si composite were investigated. Adding 0.3%Li reduced the average size of Mg2Si primary particles from ~30 μm to ~ 6 μm. The effect of cooling rate was investigated by the use of a mold with different section thickness from 3 to 9 mm. The results show a refinement of primary particle size as a result of both Li additions and increased cooling rate, and their effects were additive. Similarly, both effects increased UTS and elongation values. The refinement by Li and enhanced cooling rate is discussed in terms of an analogy with the effect of Sr and...

On commuting graphs of semisimple rings

    Abstract
Let R be a non-commutative ring. The commuting graph of R denoted by Λ (R), is a graph with vertex set R Z(R), and two distinct vertices a and b are adjacent if ab = ba. In this paper we investigate some properties of Λ(R), whenever R is a finite semisimple ring. For any finite field F, we obtain minimum degree, maximum degree and clique number of Λ(M n (F)). Also it is shown that for any two finite semisimple rings R and S, if Λ(R) ≃ Λ(S), then there are commutative semisimple rings R1 and S1 and semisimple ring T such that R ≃T × R1, S ≃ T × S1 and |R1| = |S1|. © 2004 Elsevier Inc. We also introduce a geometric quotient of this graph, extend it to reduced schemes, and study the interplay between scheme-theoretical properties of a scheme and graph-theoretical properties of the associated graph

Order allocation in a multiple-vendor and quantity discount environment: A multi-objective decision making approach

    , Article Management Science Letters ; Volume 8, Issue 10 , 2018 , Pages 975-990 ; 19239335 (ISSN) Hadian, H ; Jahromi, A. E ; Soleimani, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Integrated supplier selection and order allocation is a complex problem that is important for both designing and operating supply chains. It becomes especially complicated when quantity discounts are considered at the same time. Under such circumstances, most studies often formulate the problem as a Multi-Objective Linear Programming problem (MOLP), and then transform it to a Mixed Integer Programming problem (MIP) to handle the inherited multi-objectives, simultaneously. But, objectives are not of equal importance and in this approach scaling and subjective weighting often are not considered. In addition, some of the studies that use weighting method to solve the MOLP, usually ignore to...

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 490, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 250-257 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Hadian, R ; Emamy, M ; Varahram, N ; Nemati, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
The effects of both Li modification and cooling rate on the microstructure and tensile properties of an in situ prepared Al-15%Mg2Si composite were investigated. It was found that the addition of 0.3%Li reduces the average size of Mg2Si primary particles from ∼30 to ∼6 μm. The effect of cooling rate was investigated by the use of a mold with different section test bars. The results showed an increase in both UTS and elongation values with reduction in section thicknesses corresponding to increasing cooling rates. Adding Li also raised the tensile strength and elongation values and reduced the number of decohered particles observed in fracture surfaces thereby increasing the alloy's...

    Abstract
Knowledge about the non-linear dynamical pattern of postural sway may provide important insights into the adaptability (flexibility) of human postural control in response to everyday stresses imposed on the body. A commonly used non-linear tool, i.e. recurrence quantification analysis, was chosen to investigate the effect of prior anterior cruciate ligament injury on the deterministic pattern of postural sway under different conditions of postural and cognitive difficulty. In double leg stance, as postural difficulty increased from open-eyes to closed-eyes and rigid-surface to foam-surface, the centre of pressure regularity (%determinism) increased as well. In comparison to healthy...

    Abstract
Sports video analysis and camera calibration are important applications which rely on accurate homography computation as a challenging task. Homography refinement is an important step in the task of accurate homography computation and homography tracking. Also, in certain applications (such as homography tracking) the process speed is of great importance. A robust and fast method for accurate refinement of highly inaccurate homographies in soccer video frames is proposed in this paper. To achieve that goal, a new homography model fitting method named the point-line (PL) method is proposed. It uses point-line correspondences to compute the homography, rather than point correspondences or line...

Improving the Training Process of Understanding Unit in Spoken Dialog Systems Using Active Learning Methods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadian, Hossein (Author) ; Sameti, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis aims at reducing the need for labeled data in the SLU domain by the means of active Learning methods. This need is due to the lack of labeled datasets for Spoken Language Understanding (SLU) in the Persian language, and fairly high labeling costs. Active learning methods enables the learner to choose the most informative instances to be labeled and used for training, and prevents labeling uninformative or redundant instances. For modeling the SLU system, several statistical models namely MLN (Markov Logic Networks), CRF (Conditional Random Fields), HMM (Hidden Markov Model) and HVS (Hidden Vector State) were reviewed, and finally CRF was chosen for its superior performance. The...

Calibration of PTZ Cameras from Multiview Soccer Match Videos

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadian, Mostafa (Author) ; Kasaei, Shohreh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Camera calibration in sport videos has applications such as sport video analysis, insertion of virtual graphical elements, and 3D reconstruction. Our goal in this research is to fully calibrate cameras in soccer match videos. By calibration parameters, we mean the internal and the external camera parameters. We can have a mapping from world coordinates to image coordinates if we have all the calibration parameters. The cameras used in this research are stationary pan-tilt-zoom cameras. The main challenges in camera calibration are noise, blur, bad lighting conditions, lack of useful information image, fast movement of camera and radial distortion. In addition, as another challenge, we assume...

A Secure and Effcient Approach for Processing Join Query on Encrypted Outsourced Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadian, Saman (Author) ; Jalili, Rasool (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Data outsourcing As a cloud service, it is a solution to reduce the cost of data storage and management in small and medium organizations. One of the main concerns in this area is the privacy of data owners and the non-disclosure of information by curious (albeit trusted) public cloud service providers. Resolving this issue requires encrypting the data before sending it to the cloud server. Transferring all encrypted data to the cloud server and performing various queries after encryption imposes a lot of time, computational and storage overhead, which destroys the philosophy of outsourcing. One of the open research issues is the processing of join queries over encrypted data by the cloud...

Design and Improvement of Sequence-level Objective Functions for DNN-based Large Vocabulary Continuous Speech Recognition

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hadian, Hossein (Author) ; Sameti, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis focuses on the problem of large vocabulary continuous speech recognition (LVCSR).Numerous research results in recent years proved effectiveness of deep neural networks (DNN) for LVCSR. As a result, many methods were proposed to incorporate DNNs in LVCSR. From one perspective we can look at these methods from the viewpoint of objective functions used for training DNNs. A frame-level objective function is one that is defined on frames locally, whereas a sequence-level objective function is defined on whole sequences. Since speech recognition is essentially a sequentional problem, here we focus on designing and imroving sequencelevel objective functions for DNNs. The main proposed...

Laboratory Investigation of Dispersion under Interaction of Surface Waves and Flexible Stems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadian, Alireza (Author) ; Jamali, Mirmosadegh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This experimental study investigates the interaction between surface waves and flexible stems in aquatic environments, focusing on the case where the wave frequency is close to the natural frequency of the stems. Aquatic plants have significant structural and ecological effects on aquatic environments, inducing various changes in the flow passing through them. In this research, a polyurethane stem model is used, which is submerged and randomly placed in water. The oscillation amplitude and pollutant dispersion are investigated. The experiments were conducted at four frequencies of 0.7, 0.83, 1, and 1.125 Hz, two wave heights of 2 and 3 cm, and two densities of 0.8 and 1.2%. Image processing...

    Abstract
In this paper, we introduce a new dataset for SAD and evaluate certain common methods such as GMM, DNN, and RNN on it. We have collected our dataset in a semi-supervised approach, using subtitled movies, with a labeling accuracy of 95%. This semi-automatic method can help us collect huge amounts of labeled audio data with very high diversity in language, speaker, and channel. We model the problem of SAD as a classification task to two classes of speech and non-speech. When using GMM for this problem, we use two separate mixtures to model speech and non-speech. In the case of neural networks, we use a softmax layer at the end of the network, with two neurons which represent speech and...

Online signature verification using I-vector representation

    , Article IET Biometrics ; Volume 7, Issue 5 , 2018 , Pages 405-414 ; 20474938 (ISSN) Zeinali, H ; BabaAli, B ; Hadian, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Signature verification (SV) is one of the common methods for identity verification in banking, where for security reasons, it is very important to have an accurate method for automatic SV (ASV). ASV is usually addressed by comparing the test signature with the enrolment signature(s) signed by the individual whose identity is claimed in two manners: online and offline. In this study, a new method based on the i-vector is proposed for online SV. In the proposed method, a fixed-length vector, called i-vector, is extracted from each signature and then this vector is used for template making. Several techniques such as nuisance attribute projection (NAP) and within-class covariance normalisation...

Investigation of EDC Turbulent Combustion Model for Flameless Combustion Regime in a Certain Combustion Chamber

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadian, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reducing carbon emissions emanated from combustion of fossil fuels is a challenging problem and consumes huge amount of money that is put into research every year. Nitrogen oxides are among the most important pollutants which have been at the center of attention of industries and international environment protection organizations, especially due to their increased production by commercial aircrafts at higher altitudes of the atmosphere. Flameless is a combustion regime that has been independently discovered by different research teams while working on reducing nitrogen oxides from burning fossil fuels in the early 1990s, and afterwards has been studied for its exclusive characteristics in...

Design and Fabrication af a Bioceramic-Polymer Composite Scaffold Using Bioprinter for Regeneration of Osteochondral Tissue

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadian, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Mashayekhan, Shohreh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work, we have used a 3D printer and unidirectional ice-templating technique in conjunction, to fabricate a novel composite scaffold to facilitate local osteochondral defects tissue regeneration with a cell-free approach. Using ice-templating to induce radially-aligned porosity formation in type I bovine collagen is known to expedite host cells' migration into the scaffold which their ECM secretion shifts cellular milieu toward that of its neighboring tissue layer. We used numerical analysis to design and optimize appropriate freeze-casting mold, finding the optimum value for pin height and metal slab depth to be 4mm and 14mm, respectively. Collagen content equivalent to 2%w/v was...

The aim of this study was to estimate the test-retest reliability of some commonly used center of pressure measures in postural control investigations of sport injuries under the diverse stressful postural conditions. Twelve patients with anterior cruciate ligament injury were evaluated on two separate sessions. The center of pressure was recorded from force platform and the following measures were calculated (1) standard deviation of amplitude (2) mean velocity (3) standard deviation of velocity (4) phase plane parameters and (5) area (95% confidence ellipse). Relative and absolute reliability was assessed using intra-class correlation coefficient and coefficient of variation, respectively....

Supplier Selection and Order Lot Sizing under Volume Discount Environments in a Supply Chain Using Multi Criteria Decision Making Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadian, Hengameh (Author) ; Eshraghniaye Jahromi, Abdolhamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Traditionally, supplier selection should simultaneously take into account numerous heterogeneous criteria and then is a tedious task for the purchasing decision makers. The global supplier selection problem is more complex than domestic one and it needs more critical analysis. It becomes especially complicated when quantity discounts are considered at the same time. Under such manner, most studies often formulate such a problem as a Multi-Objective Linear Programming (MOLP) problem, and then scale it down to a Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) problem to handle the inherited multi-objectives simultaneously. However, this approach often neglects to consider scaling and subjective weighting...
