In process of making prosthetic limb, each of the prosthetic limbs must be costume fitted and built since each amputation of the patient is unique. The design and fabrication process of artificial limb consists of several different steps and begins with a precise measurement process that will be used to design the prosthetic limb. If possible, a prosthetist begins taking measurements before the patient's limb is even amputated, so that the fabrication process can get started. Today, much research which has been done in Augmented Reality and 3D scanning technologies shows that these technologies can help people with disabilities to have better experience in their life by using them in...

Optimal Design of Output Filter for Low Switching Frequency Multi Level Inverter Based Medium Voltage Induction Motor Drive

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hafezi, Yosef (Author) ; Zolghadri, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, the use of variable-speed electric drives has gained increasing importance due to their ability to improve the technical performance of systems. However, the rectangular pulses of the inverter's output voltage in these drives introduce challenges such as current ripple, additional losses in the motor and cables, electromagnetic interference, overvoltage on the stator windings, and acoustic noise. Furthermore, the high dv/dt at the motor terminals reduces the motor insulation's lifespan and, when long cables are used to feed the motor, can lead to increased overvoltage at the motor terminals. To address all the aforementioned issues and achieve an appropriate voltage quality...

A POS-based fuzzy word clustering algorithm for continuous speech recognition systems

    , Article 2007 9th International Symposium on Signal Processing and its Applications, ISSPA 2007, Sharjah, 12 February 2007 through 15 February 2007 ; 2007 ; 1424407796 (ISBN); 9781424407798 (ISBN) Momtazi, S ; Sameti, H ; Bahrani, M ; Hafezi, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Using word base n-gram language models in continuous speech recognition systems is so prevalent. For using this type of language models, we should extract them from large corpora. Since Persian corpora are not rich, therefore the extracted language models are not credible. For this reason, most researchers extract class n-grams instead of finding word n-grams. In this research a new idea for fuzzy word clustering is represented that each word can be assigned to more that one class. The Fuzzy c-mean algorithm is used for our clustering method and we have examined its various parameters of it. Finally, this algorithm was applied on 20000 most frequent Persian words extracted from "Persian Text...

    Abstract
In this paper a new method for automatic word clustering is presented. We used this method for building n-gram language models for Persian continuous speech recognition (CSR) systems. In this method, each word is specified by a feature vector that represents the statistics of parts of speech (POS) of that word. The feature vectors are clustered by k-means algorithm. Using this method causes a reduction in time complexity which is a defect in other automatic clustering methods. Also, the problem of high perplexity in manual clustering methods is abated. The experimental results are based on "Persian Text Corpus" which contains about 9 million words. The extracted language models are evaluated...

    Abstract
Synthetic quantum Hall bilayer (SQHB), realized by optically driven monolayer graphene in the quantum Hall regime, provides a flexible platform for engineering quantum Hall phases as discussed in Ghazaryan et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 247403 (2017)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.119.247403]. The coherent driving which couples two Landau levels mimics an effective tunneling between synthetic layers. The tunneling strength, the effective Zeeman coupling, and two-body interaction matrix elements are tunable by varying the driving frequency and the driving strength. Using infinite density matrix renormalization group techniques combined with exact diagonalization, we show that the system...

    Abstract
Curcumin, an important natural component of turmeric, has been known for a long time for its antimicrobial properties. This study aimed to investigate the anti-biofilm action of the niosome-encapsulated curcumin and explore the involved anti-biofilm mechanism. In silico investigations of ADME-Tox (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity) were first performed to predict the suitability of curcumin for pharmaceutical application. Curcumin showed low toxicity but at the same time, low solubility and low stability, which, in turn, might reduce its antimicrobial activity. To overcome these intrinsic limitations, curcumin was encapsulated using a biocompatible niosome system,...

    Abstract
The characterization of ion beam current density distribution and beam uniformity is crucial for improving broad-beam ion source technologies. The design of the broad ion beam extraction system directly affects these two parameters, therefore, depending on the application, the design and geometry of the source is changed. In this study, the effect of the presence or the absence of a neutralization process on the ion beam density was investigated. Also, the effect of the probe bias on the ion beam current measurement was evaluated. Eventually, using a flat probe, the ion beam profiles obtained from the extraction system of the ion source (Model RFIS 60, ACECR, Iran) were measured at energies...
