Range-Doppler Map Generation in the Presence of Sparse Clutter for Multistatic Radar

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghighat, Soheil (Author) ; Karbasi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Multistatic radar has several advantages over monostatic radar (such as better detection), which are due to the use of different viewing angles and the difference in their clutter characteristics. Clutter in many applications (such as marine applications) has the property of being sparse in certain dictionaries. Therefore, the investigation of sparse clutter (such as sea clutter) is of particular importance. It is worth noting that the detection of targets in the vicinity of the sea faces difficulties due to the dynamics of the sea, which causes the Doppler spectrum to change with time and change in space. Considering the fact that the sea clutter is sparse clutter, one of the powerful...

    Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is assessment of seismic performance of self-centering concentric braced frames (SC-CBF). In this structures, the column under tension can uplift from the foundation at a specified level of lateral loading and by using some methods such as post-tensioning (PT) bars or tendons, the structure is able to self-center after severe Earthquakes. In this systems, PT bars and energy dissipation elements resist column uplift. The effect of energy dissipation ratio and initial stress in PT bars was investigated in design and performance of four four-story analytical models. Nonlinear static and dynamic analyses were conducted to compare some parameters in these four models...

Nowadays, credit risk is recognized as the most significant factor of bankruptcy in banking industry. Incorrect selection and unsuitable appropriation of financial resources to customers cause this risk. On the other hand, the detection of company operating and financial difficulties is a subject which has been fundamentally discussed in financial ratio analysis. As a result, this study tries to analyze existence and relationship between financial ratios of recipients and their reimbursement ability by evaluation of their conditions in awarding them credit. Furthermore, according to the credit risk context, some of financial ratios are selected and their values are obtained as the input...

Two New Meta-Model Based Artificial Neural Network Algorithms for Constrained Simulation Optimization Problems with Stochastic Constraints

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Nezhad, Ali (Author) ; Mahlooji, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Following the recent developments in the field of decision making, a considerable number of problems involved with stochastic systems can be thought of whose analysis depends on a set of intricate mathematical relations. In such cases, simulation is one of the most popular tools that can be applied toward analysis of behavior of such stochastic systems. Not only does not the simulation model rely on such intricate mathematical relations, it also enjoys the added advantage of being free of any restricting assumptions which may normally be considered in a stochastic system. To analyze such problem, one may aim at determining the best combination of input variables to optimize the system...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Marani, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Mahlooji, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This work attempts to address the buffer allocation problem in an unreliable, linear production line. We try to determine the optimal sizes of buffers between adjacent work stations in such a way that a measure of costs is minimized and the production rate is simultaneously maximized. We resort to simulation optimization in order to determine the best combination of input parameters that leads to a near optimal performance for the system. To achieve this purpose, we employ a multi-objective genetic algorithm (NSGAII) in the optimization phase along with simulation as the tool for evaluating the objective function. To determine the merits of the proposed method, we compare the performance of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Poursaeidi, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Mahlooji, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, an integrated location-inventory-transportation problem with uncertainty in the parameters is analyzed using Robust Optimization techniques. Unknown demand distribution is the underlying assumption, which relates better to the reality. The model’s main purpose is to determine the number and locations of the Distribution Centers (DC) that connect the supplier to the retailers, and then to assign retailers to them. The problem’s mathematical model is developed on the basis of Robust Optimization techniques and the solution space is explored by Tabu Search. The results show that the Tabu Search method achieves optimality in small-scale cases, while providing desirable...

Toroidal Transformer Life Estimation Under Non-Sinusoidal Supply

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saket, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Oraee Mirzamani, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to increase in nonlinear loads in today’s applications, the percent of harmonic content has been increased. Transformers are one of the electrical system components that are subjected to these harmonics. The failure of such equipment is an important consideration. Such failure is because of the hotspot temperature rises over the normal temperature withstanding of internal insulation. The increments of hotspot temperature can decrease the transformer insulation life. Totally, because of the presence of many parameters, precise investigation of loss of life is very difficult. Hence, the only meaning of loss of life in this project is the loss of insulation life under heat stresses....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haji Mohammad Amini, Hashem (Author) ; Oraee Mirzamani, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we consider design, modeling, and analysis of a single-phase Brushless Doubly-Fed Machine (BDFM). Generally, this type of machine is called the Brushless Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (BDFIM), that is a new class of induction machines. BDFM is a type of AC machines that requires two alternative power sources. One of the stators windings, called Power Winding, is connected to the network grid and the other one, which is called Control Winding, is connected via a converter, which is in the order of one-third of the nominal power of the machine, to the grid. Like the other types of induction machines, BDFM can also work as a generator or motor. The important criteria of this...

CO2/N2 Mixed Gas Separation in Glycerol Liquid Membrane Containing Sodium Carbonate Carriers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghighat, Parsa (Author) ; Bastani, Darush (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, initially the Glycerol liquid membrane with dissolved sodium carbonate carriers, which is supported by CA porous filter, was prepared. The effects of Na2CO3 concentration and pressure difference on gas permeability were investigated. Permeability of CO2 and N2 were measured at pressure difference of 0.7, 1.6, 2.1 and 2.8 bar with carbonate sodium concentration of 0, 1 and 2 mol/lit. Permeability of CO2 was found to be higher than N2. Increasing the pressure difference resulted in an increase in the N2 permeability coefficient while decreased the CO2 permeability coefficient. Increasing the concentration of sodium carbonate increased the CO2 permeability drastically but...

    , Article Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering ; Volume 397 , 2022 ; 00457825 (ISSN) Haghighat, E ; Amini, D ; Juanes, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) have received significant attention as a unified framework for forward, inverse, and surrogate modeling of problems governed by partial differential equations (PDEs). Training PINNs for forward problems, however, pose significant challenges, mainly because of the complex non-convex and multi-objective loss function. In this work, we present a PINN approach to solving the equations of coupled flow and deformation in porous media for both single-phase and multiphase flow. To this end, we construct the solution space using multi-layer neural networks. Due to the dynamics of the problem, we find that incorporating multiple differential relations into the...

Decomposition of Poverty in Iran with Reference to Household’s Socioeconomic Characteristics, Using Integrated Macro and Micro Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Poursadeghi Haghighat, Soheil (Author) ; Neili, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research uses the new approach of Son (2003) for the decomposition of poverty in Iran into three separate components of growth, inequality and population effects during 2001 to 2007 and meanwhile uses the integration of microeconomic and macroeconomic data together to increase the accuracy of the results. The main question of this research is to determine the orientation of development strategies for alleviation of poverty in Iran, which could be either growth-oriented or inequality-oriented ones. The resultes suggest that the former has always been pro-poor in Iran and has had the most dominant effect. Therefore, in order to decrease the poverty in Iran in the future, there should be...

Design and Comparison of Memristor Implementation for Different Machine Learning Algorithms

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghighat, Bahar (Author) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The first physical realization of the missing fourth fundamental element of electrical circuits, namely memristor, in 2008 by HP labs triggered an immense amount of research on the capabilities of this element in implementing artificial neurons and artificial brain. In this project we will propose several reinforcement learning-based algorithms that are implemented on a specific memristor-based structure, the memristor crossbar structure. Hence we provide a learning paradigm that resembles the human learning paradigm not only because of the the algorithmic core, which is based on learning from sparse and delayed rewards and penalties, but also because of the hardware over which the...

Modeling Saturated Porous Media Using Extended Finite Element Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghighat, Ehsan (Author) ; Khoei, Amir Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Soil structures have important roles in civil engineering applications. The most important types of these structures are soil dams and foundations which their damages may cause huge loss. Thus, appropriate analysis of these structures under possible loading conditions is unavoidable. The real behavior of this media can be achieved from the solution of its coupled governing differential equations. In order to solve this set of equations in practical applications, appropriate numerical solutions should be used. The finite element method can be called as one of the most important numerical solutions of differential equations which have been used in analyzing different types of engineering...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Solaymanian, Miremad (Author) ; Mahlooji, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In some statistical process control applications, quality of a process or product 1s characterized by a relationship between a response variable and one or more explanatory variables which is referred to as profile by researchers. In some applications such as calibration, this relationship is characterized by a simple linear regression. However, in some situations, more complicated models are needed. It seems that there is a little attention to monitoring of profiles with binary response variables. Furthermore, the extensive applications of binary response variables in real industrial worlds make it necessary to concentrate on this kind of profiles. In this ...

Comparison Between Methods Of Synchronization In A Queue With Finite Customer Population

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kazemi, Hesam (Author) ; Mahlooji, Hashem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One technique to reduce variance of output in comparing two or more systems via simulation is random number synchronization. the primary technique for achieving synchronization is to assign an independent seed to each random process and then use the same collection of seeds across all systems . Another way of synchronization in systems with limited customer population is to assign different seed to each customer (transaction) and then use the same collection of seeds across all systems. The main Question to be considered here is which of these methods of synchronization can better reduce variance of output in a queue with finite customer population
