Gauge Symmetry in Renormalization Group Flow
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Ardalan, Farhad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Exact Renormalization Equations (ERGE) are powerful non-perturbative tools to study the dynamics of Quantum Field theories, with respect to the change of energy. Putting cut-off on momentums of the system, is the specific regularization that is used to obtain ERGEs. This regularization breaks the gauge symmetry in the case of gauge theories. So the symmetry will be lost through the energy flow as well.Finding a gauge symmetry for a regularized system is the aim of this research. Also we have investigated the related ERGEs and the behavior of symmetry through the flow

Abstract
Most of the real-world systems can be modeled as closed loop systems which are made up of a LTI subsystem in the forward path and a memoryless nonlinear subsystem in the feedback path. Such systems are called “Lur’e systems”, the name of the first who introduced these systems. Because of the generality and the wide applicability of this type of systems, studying the stability of them has been notable and interesting to many scientists for a long time. Meanwhile, in recent decades, many scientists in physics and engineering sciences have been interested in applications of the fractional order systems and as a result focused on studying the features of the fractional order systems. An...
CO2/N2 Mixed Gas Separation in Glycerol Liquid Membrane Containing Sodium Carbonate Carriers
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bastani, Darush (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, initially the Glycerol liquid membrane with dissolved sodium carbonate carriers, which is supported by CA porous filter, was prepared. The effects of Na2CO3 concentration and pressure difference on gas permeability were investigated. Permeability of CO2 and N2 were measured at pressure difference of 0.7, 1.6, 2.1 and 2.8 bar with carbonate sodium concentration of 0, 1 and 2 mol/lit. Permeability of CO2 was found to be higher than N2. Increasing the pressure difference resulted in an increase in the N2 permeability coefficient while decreased the CO2 permeability coefficient. Increasing the concentration of sodium carbonate increased the CO2 permeability drastically but...

The attachment of wall elements to frame (column) elements is of particular interest in this study
Range-Doppler Map Generation in the Presence of Sparse Clutter for Multistatic Radar
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Karbasi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Multistatic radar has several advantages over monostatic radar (such as better detection), which are due to the use of different viewing angles and the difference in their clutter characteristics. Clutter in many applications (such as marine applications) has the property of being sparse in certain dictionaries. Therefore, the investigation of sparse clutter (such as sea clutter) is of particular importance. It is worth noting that the detection of targets in the vicinity of the sea faces difficulties due to the dynamics of the sea, which causes the Doppler spectrum to change with time and change in space. Considering the fact that the sea clutter is sparse clutter, one of the powerful...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khoei, Amir Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Soil structures have important roles in civil engineering applications. The most important types of these structures are soil dams and foundations which their damages may cause huge loss. Thus, appropriate analysis of these structures under possible loading conditions is unavoidable. The real behavior of this media can be achieved from the solution of its coupled governing differential equations. In order to solve this set of equations in practical applications, appropriate numerical solutions should be used. The finite element method can be called as one of the most important numerical solutions of differential equations which have been used in analyzing different types of engineering...
Decomposition of Poverty in Iran with Reference to Household’s Socioeconomic Characteristics, Using Integrated Macro and Micro Data
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Neili, Farhad (Supervisor)
Abstract
This research uses the new approach of Son (2003) for the decomposition of poverty in Iran into three separate components of growth, inequality and population effects during 2001 to 2007 and meanwhile uses the integration of microeconomic and macroeconomic data together to increase the accuracy of the results. The main question of this research is to determine the orientation of development strategies for alleviation of poverty in Iran, which could be either growth-oriented or inequality-oriented ones. The resultes suggest that the former has always been pro-poor in Iran and has had the most dominant effect. Therefore, in order to decrease the poverty in Iran in the future, there should be...

Design and Comparison of Memristor Implementation for Different Machine Learning Algorithms
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
The first physical realization of the missing fourth fundamental element of electrical circuits, namely memristor, in 2008 by HP labs triggered an immense amount of research on the capabilities of this element in implementing artificial neurons and artificial brain. In this project we will propose several reinforcement learning-based algorithms that are implemented on a specific memristor-based structure, the memristor crossbar structure. Hence we provide a learning paradigm that resembles the human learning paradigm not only because of the the algorithmic core, which is based on learning from sparse and delayed rewards and penalties, but also because of the hardware over which the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is assessment of seismic performance of self-centering concentric braced frames (SC-CBF). In this structures, the column under tension can uplift from the foundation at a specified level of lateral loading and by using some methods such as post-tensioning (PT) bars or tendons, the structure is able to self-center after severe Earthquakes. In this systems, PT bars and energy dissipation elements resist column uplift. The effect of energy dissipation ratio and initial stress in PT bars was investigated in design and performance of four four-story analytical models. Nonlinear static and dynamic analyses were conducted to compare some parameters in these four models...

Abstract
Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) have received significant attention as a unified framework for forward, inverse, and surrogate modeling of problems governed by partial differential equations (PDEs). Training PINNs for forward problems, however, pose significant challenges, mainly because of the complex non-convex and multi-objective loss function. In this work, we present a PINN approach to solving the equations of coupled flow and deformation in porous media for both single-phase and multiphase flow. To this end, we construct the solution space using multi-layer neural networks. Due to the dynamics of the problem, we find that incorporating multiple differential relations into the...
TiO2 Nanophotocatalyst: Preparation via Sol-Gel Method and Deposition on Natural Fiber
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sadrnezhad, Khatiboleslam (Supervisor)
Abstract
TiO2 is one of the most frequently used photocatalyst materials. Porous TiO2 nanostructure has drawn much attention recently due to high decomposition rate of organic pollutants. In this thesis, TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized via sol-gel method and were coated on cotton and jute fiber separately; besides, the impregnated fibers were heat treated to eliminate cellulose. Titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) was used as a precursor and two solutions, acidic and alcoholic, were used as the primary solutions for synthesis. In acidic solution, the crystalline phase and size distribution of TiO2 nanoparticles were evaluated with changing pH.Then, the appropriate pH was chosen for coating. In...
Analysis of Security Properties of E-voting Protocols: A Provable-security Approach
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jalili, Rasool (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recent violation of security properties of e-voting protocols not using provable security, indicates the importance of provable security. In this thesis, we use the provable security approach to analyze security properties of e-voting protocols. In addition to presenting an efficient and provably secure protocol, the minimal assumptions to achieve privacyin e-voting protocols are analyzed. The firstcon-tribution of this thesis is presenting an efficient and provably secure coercion-resistant protocol, which is a variant of the JCJ e-voting protocol (Juels et al.,2010). It decreases the total number of JCJ’s operations fromO(n2) to O(n). The second contribution of this thesis is proving the...

, Article Engineering Fracture Mechanics ; Volume 96 , December , 2012 , Pages 701-723 ; 00137944 (ISSN) ; Moallemi, S ; Haghighat, E ; Sharif University of Technology
2012
Abstract
In this paper, the extended finite element method is presented for thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) modeling of impermeable discontinuities in saturated porous media. The X-FEM technique is applied to the THM governing equations for the spatial discretization, followed by a generalized Newmark scheme for the time domain discretization. The displacement field is enriched by the Heaviside and crack tip asymptotic functions, and the pressure and temperature fields are enriched by the Heaviside and appropriate asymptotic functions. The process is accomplished by partitioning the domain with triangular sub-elements. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the capability of proposed technique...
Payload attribution via character dependent multi-bloom filters
, Article IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security ; Volume 8, Issue 5 , 2013 , Pages 705-716 ; 15566013 (ISSN) ; Tavakoli, M ; Kharrazi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Network forensic analysts employ payload attribution systems (PAS) as an investigative tool, which enables them to store and summarize large amounts of network traffic, including full packet payload. Hence an investigator could query the system for a specific string and check whether any of the packets transmitted previously in the network contained that specific string. As a shortcoming, the previously proposed techniques are unable to support wildcard queries. Wildcards are an important type of query that allow the investigator to locate strings in the payload when only part of the string is known. In this paper, a new data structure for payload attribution, named Character Dependent...
Adaptive LSTAR model for long-range variable bit rate video traffic prediction
, Article IEEE Transactions on Multimedia ; Volume 19, Issue 5 , 2017 , Pages 999-1014 ; 15209210 (ISSN) ; Shayesteh, M. G ; Haghighat, N ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Static bandwidth allocation for variable bit rate (VBR) video traffic forfeits the available bandwidth. Prediction of the next frame size is thus useful in dynamic bandwidth allocation. It has been shown that VBR video traces are long-range dependent, which makes one-frame-ahead prediction insufficient for dynamic bandwidth allocation. Several studies have been conducted based on the linear autoregressive (AR) model to address VBR traffic prediction. In this paper, we propose the use of a nonlinear model from the AR family called logistic smooth transition autoregressive (LSTAR) to predict VBR video traffic. Furthermore, we introduce adaptive algorithms, including least mean square (LMS),...

Abstract
With the development of computing systems for data processing, the image processing and image analyzing methods have been developed on the basis of pixel assessment. These methods can analyze and detect the images by assigning a value for each pixel and using the matrices calculations. In the present research, two methods have been used to assess the simulated material microstructures. In the first method, the vertices of the microstructure are counted to determine accurately the mean grain size by the Euler's relationship, while in the second method, the image processing and image analyzing methods are utilized to assess the microstructure image. To verify the accuracies of the methods...
Harmony search based algorithms for bandwidth-delay-constrained least-cost multicast routing
, Article Computer Communications ; Volume 31, Issue 10 , 2008 , Pages 2505-2519 ; 01403664 (ISSN) ; Toroghi Haghighat, A ; Mahdavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
The advent of various real-time multimedia applications in high-speed networks creates a need for quality of service (QoS) based multicast routing. Two important QoS constraints are the bandwidth constraint and the end-to-end delay constraint. The QoS based multicast routing problem is a known NP-complete problem that depends on (1) bounded end-to-end delay and link bandwidth along the paths from the source to each destination, and (2) minimum cost of the multicast tree. In this paper, we presents novel centralized algorithms to solve the bandwidth-delay-constrained least-cost multicast routing problem based on the harmony search (HS) algorithm. Our first algorithm uses modified Prüfer...
