    Optimal power flow solution by a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm

    Abstract
    This paper presents a modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO) algorithm for solving the optimal power flow (OPF) problems. The main distinction of this approach is in using particle's worth experience in stead of the best previous experience. The proposed approach is evaluated on the IEEE 30-bus test system which minimizes the total fuel cost considering operational constraints such as power flow equations, transmission flow limits, bus voltages and reactive power of generators. The results obtained using the proposed approach are compared with results of other optimization methods

    Abstract
    A reasonable amount of spinning reserve is essential to satisfy system security constraints when the power system encounters a contingency. Most ofthe methods previously developed for spinning reserve assessment ignore the probabilistic aspects of system components. This paper presents the design of a market for energy and spinning reserve services. This dispatching method has been developed to minimize the cost associated with theses services while maintaining the system security.     This study aims at quantitatively assessing the availability indices of various substation automation systems. In order to illustrate the proposed technique, first, nine types of substation automation architectures are reviewed. The reliability block diagrams of various substation automation architectures are then developed. Subsequently, comparative studies are performed to demonstrate the most reliable architectures in comparison with the others.     Abstract
    In this study, the authors investigate the effect of the random free-running frequency distribution of oscillators in two-dimensional (2D) coupled oscillator arrays (COAs) on the phase error of the elements, and consequently on the beam-pointing angle of the array. They derive an analytic formulation for the standard deviation of the beam-pointing error (BPE) in terms of the statistical parameters of the free-running frequencies of the elements and array configuration. The results show that in order to decrease the BPE in 2D COAs, one can use COAs with a larger size (greater number of elements) and decrease the deviation of the free-running frequency of the oscillators

    A kinetic model based on a mechanistic approach was developed for thermal hydrocracking of a paraffinic feedstock. The hydrocarbon feed was described as a mixture of representative molecules based on structural group analysis (SGA) where information from elemental analysis, H1, and C13-NMR of the feed were used to obtain the average concentration of various structural groups from which representative molecules were constructed. In this paper, the effects of BCC ideal rolling fibers—including α, ε, η, γ, and ξ fibers—on the sheet formability are numerically studied.     Arrays of N weakly coupled oscillators are considered in different configurations. The locking bandwidth for these arrays is defined statistically. Various factors affecting the locking bandwidth and the effect of the coupling network topology on locking bandwidth are studied by solving the dynamic equations of the array numerically.
