    Abstract
In this paper, a new approach to control continuous time chaotic systems with an unknown governing equation and limitation on the measurement of states, has been investigated. In many chaotic systems, disability to measure all of the states is a usual limitation, like in some economical, biological and many other engineering systems. Takens showed that a chaotic attractor has an astonishing feature in which it can embed to a mathematically similar attractor by using time series of one of the states. The new embedded attractor saves much information from the original attractor. This phenomenon has been deployed to present a new way to control continuous time chaotic systems, when only one of...

    Abstract
Background: The abundance of gene expression microarray data has led to the development of machine learning algorithms applicable for tackling disease diagnosis, disease prognosis, and treatment selection problems. However, these algorithms often produce classifiers with weaknesses in terms of accuracy, robustness, and interpretability. This paper introduces fuzzy support vector machine which is a learning algorithm based on combination of fuzzy classifiers and kernel machines for microarray classification. Results: Experimental results on public leukemia, prostate, and colon cancer datasets show that fuzzy support vector machine applied in combination with filter or wrapper feature selection...

Determination of Occupant Comfortability in Ttall Buildings with Outrigger and Aerodynamic Characteristics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hajiloo, Amin (Author) ; Bakhshi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, in Iran, like other countries tall buildings have been constructed as a solution to space limitation problem and modern architectural matters. By increase in building height, the flexibility against wind force increase, therefore necessitating the study of buildings behavior against wind force. Traditionally most of the research done, have dealt with performance of the buildings, probability of the failure, and the serviceability level all of which relates to the amount of force in elements, the stress existing in the structure, and the amount of displacement. A substantial factor in structures, especially in tall buildings, is the comfortability of their occupants which...

    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of chaos control in discrete-time chaotic systems with unknown governing equations and limited measurable states is investigated. Using the time-series of only one measurable state, an algorithm is proposed to stabilize unstable fixed points. The approach consists of three steps: first, using Takens embedding theory, a delayed phase space preserving the topological characteristics of the unknown system is reconstructed. Second, a dynamic model is identified by recursive least squares method to estimate the time-series data in the delayed phase space. Finally, based on the reconstructed model, an appropriate linear delayed feedback controller is obtained for...

Adaptive delayed feedback chaos control of a class of uncertain chaotic systems subject to external disturbance

    , Article Iranian Journal of Science and Technology - Transactions of Mechanical Engineering ; Volume 43 , 2019 , Pages 517-525 ; 22286187 (ISSN) Hajiloo, R ; Shahrokhi, M ; Salarieh, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, an adaptive nonlinear delayed feedback control is proposed for stabilizing an unstable periodic orbit (UPO) of a class of uncertain chaotic systems using the sliding mode approach. The chaotic system is subjected to external disturbances with unknown bounds. Using the Lyapunov stability theorem and the concept of sliding mode control, an adaptive delayed feedback controller has been designed. The controller and adaptation law guarantee the asymptotic stability of the closed loop system on a periodic trajectory which can be sufficiently close to the UPO of the chaotic system. The capability of the proposed control method in stabilizing the UPO of chaotic systems is established...

    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of chaos control in a chaotic Henon-like system without using the governing equations of the system is investigated. It is also assumed that the system has only one measurable state. The time-series of the measurable state is used to stabilize chaos by a three-step method. First, using Takens embedding theory, a delayed phase space is reconstructed preserving the topological characteristics of the system. Then, an appropriate dynamic model is identified to estimate the time-series data in the reconstructed phase space. Finally, the unstable fixed point of the system is stabilized using an appropriate linear delayed feedback controller with controller gains...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hajiloo, Mohsen (Author) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The classification of different tumor types is of great importance in cancer diagnosis and drug discovery. However, most previous cancer classification studies are clinical based and have limited diagnostic ability. Cancer classification using gene expression data is known to contain the keys for addressing the fundamental problems relating to cancer diagnosis. The recent advent of DNA microarray technique has made simultaneous monitoring of thousands of gene expressions possible. With this abundance of gene expression data, researchers have started to explore the possibilities of cancer classification using gene expression data and quite a number of Pattern Recognition approaches have been...

Chaos Control in Delayed phase Space Constructed by the Takens' Embedding Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hajiloo, Reza (Author) ; Salarieh, Hassan (Supervisor) ; Alasty, Aria (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most surprising lessons of dynamical systems theory is that the phase spaces of simple nonlinear systems may contain strange attractors. For certain simple systems, such as pendulum, direct observations of the phase space and finding strange attractors are possible. But physical systems in which all the relevant dynamical variables can be simultaneously monitored are relatively scarce. Takens’ theory shows how a time-series of measurements of a single observable state can be often used to reconstruct qualitative features of the phase space of the system. In this research, using the time-series of one measurable state, an algorithm is proposed to control chaos. The approach...

Investigation of the Reaction of Dithiocarbamic Acid Salts with Carbonyl Compounds (Ketones and Aldehydes), Epoxides and Ortho Esters

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hajiloo Shayegan, Mojtaba (Author) ; Mahmoodi Hashemi, Mohammed (Supervisor) ; Ziyaei Halimehjani, Azim (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In the first section, for the first time, a reaction of dithiocarbamic acid salts with carbonyl compounds has been investigated in the presence of BF3.OEt2. The reaction is temperature dependent meaning that the reaction gives two different products at low and high temperatures. At 15-20 0C, the 2-iminium-1,3-dithietane is the main product. As the reaction temperature goes up, formation of gem-bis(dithiocarbamates) is dominant. In addition, deprotection of gem-bis(dithiocarbamates) was investigated by using of nitric acid as the only deprotecting agent. The structure of a 2-iminium-1,3-dithietane was confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis.
In the second and third sections, in our aim...

    Abstract
Modeling and analysis of information system vulnerabilities helps us to predict possible attacks to networks using the network configuration and vulnerabilities information. As a fact, exploiting most of vulnerabilities result in access rights alteration. In this paper, we propose a new vulnerability analysis method based on the Take-Grant protection model. We extend the initial Take-Grant model to address the notion of vulnerabilities and introduce the vulnerabilities rewriting rules to specify how the protection state of the system can be changed by exploiting vulnerabilities. Our analysis is based on a bounded polynomial algorithm, which generates the closure of the Take-Grant graph...

Sequence dependence of the binding energy in chaperone-driven polymer translocation through a nanopore

    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 83, Issue 1 , January , 2011 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Abdolvahab, R. H ; Ejtehadi, M. R ; Metzler, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
We study the translocation of stiff polymers through a nanopore, driven by the chemical-potential gradient exerted by binding proteins (chaperones) on the trans side of the pore. Bound chaperones prevent backsliding through the pore and, therefore, partially rectify the polymer passage. We show that the sequence of chain monomers with different binding affinity for the chaperones significantly affects the translocation dynamics. In particular, we investigate the effect of the nearest-neighbor adjacency probability of the two monomer types. Depending on the magnitude of the involved binding energies, the translocation speed may either increase or decrease with the adjacency probability. We...

First passage time distribution of chaperone driven polymer translocation through a nanopore: Homopolymer and heteropolymer cases

    Abstract
Combining the advection-diffusion equation approach with Monte Carlo simulations we study chaperone driven polymer translocation of a stiff polymer through a nanopore. We demonstrate that the probability density function of first passage times across the pore depends solely on the Péclet number, a dimensionless parameter comparing drift strength and diffusivity. Moreover it is shown that the characteristic exponent in the power-law dependence of the translocation time on the chain length, a function of the chaperone-polymer binding energy, the chaperone concentration, and the chain length, is also effectively determined by the Péclet number. We investigate the effect of the chaperone size on...

    Abstract
The amount of rippling in graphene sheets is related to the interactions with the substrate or with the suspending structure. Here, we report on an irreversibility in the response to forces that act on suspended graphene sheets. This may explain why one always observes a ripple structure on suspended graphene. We show that a compression-relaxation mechanism produces static ripples on graphene sheets and determine a peculiar temperature Tc, such that for T

    Abstract
Cryptography algorithms are a fundamental part of a cryptographic system that is designed and implemented to increase information security. They are the center of attention of experts in the information technology domains. Although the cryptography algorithms are implemented to attain the goals such as confidentially, integrity, and authenticity of designing, but other matters that must be noticed by designers include speed, resource consumption, reliability, flexibility, usage type, and so on. For the useful allocation of hardware, software, and human resources, it is important to identify the role of each of the factors influencing the design of cryptographic algorithms to invest in the...

Conservation of statistical results under the reduction of pair-contact interactions to solvation interactions

    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 72, Issue 6 , 2005 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Radja, N.H ; Farzami, R. R ; Ejtehadi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We show that the hydrophobicity of sequences is the leading term in Miyazawa-Jernigan interactions. Being the source of additive (solvation) terms in pair-contact interactions, they were used to reduce the energy parameters while resulting in a clear vector manipulation of energy. The reduced (additive) potential performs considerably successful in predicting the statistical properties of arbitrary structures. The evaluated designabilities of the structures by both models are highly correlated. Suggesting geometrically nondegenerate vectors (structures) as proteinlike structures, the additive model is a powerful tool for protein design. Moreover, a crossing point in the log-linear diagram of...

    Abstract
We leverage the crucial hyperelastic properties of a multifunctional structured surface to optimize the reconfigurability of the electromagnetic transmission under large nonlinear mechanical deformations. This multiphysics, multifunctional, hyperelastic structured surface (HSS) offers two simultaneous intriguing functionalities; tunability and switchability. It is made of copper reso-nators and a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate, which is one of the most favorable deformable substrates due to its hyperelastic behavior. The proposed HSS is fabricated via an original cost-effective technique and the multiphysics functionalities are captured in both experimental tests and numerical...

    Abstract
Hi-C is a genome-wide chromosome conformation capture technology that detects interactions between pairs of genomic regions and exploits higher order chromatin structures. Conceptually Hi-C data counts interaction frequencies between every position in the genome and every other position. Biologically functional interactions are expected to occur more frequently than transient background and artefactual interactions. To identify biologically relevant interactions, several background models that take biases such as distance, GC content and mappability into account have been proposed. Here we introduce MaxHiC, a background correction tool that deals with these complex biases and robustly...

    Abstract
In this paper we consider a cooperative communication systems over Rayleigh fading channels. The system utilizes a combination of incremental and selective decode-and-forward (ISDF) relaying protocols. The symbol error rate (SER) of M-PSK modulation for the ISDF protocol is derived. Using an approximation of the SER expression, the optimal power allocation is investigated. In order to reduce the complexity of the receiver, we used a modified version of the ISDF protocol which does not use the storage or retransmission of the first phase signal. We also derived optimal power allocation coefficient for modified ISDF. It has been noted that for the optimal power allocation in the ISDF protocol,...

    Abstract
In this paper we consider a relaying communication system over Rician fading channels. In this system we assume simple Incremental-Selective Decode-and-Forward (ISDF) protocol, which is jointly combining incremental and selective DF relaying protocols. In this protocol, storage or retransmission of the first phase signal are not allowed. We analyze the symbol error rate (SER) performance of the recommended protocol with M-PSK modulation. We evaluate the performance of the protocol in the frequency nonselective slow Rician fading channels. Using the approximation of the SER expression, the optimal power allocation is investigated. Our results show that at least 50% of total power must be used...
