    Abstract
The leaching kinetics of stibnite in basic solution has been investigated. Spherical pellets of antimony sulphide were dissolved in 1 molar sodium hydroxide solutions at different temperatures. It was found that the shrinking core with ash layer model could satisfactorily explain the dissolution process. Using this model, it was found that initially the rate controlling step was a chemical reaction with activation energy of 10.2 kJ/mol. As the ash layer built up, diffusion through the ash layer became the rate controlling step. The activation energy for this step was found to be 33.4 kJ/mol. It was also observed that smaller particle size, larger solid to liquid ratio, and higher NaOH...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Bavi, Omid (Author) ; Vosoughi, Manochehr (Supervisor) ; Jamali, Yusef (Supervisor) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mechanosensitive (MS) channels are ubiquitous molecular force sensors that respond to a number of different mechanical stimuli including tensile, compressive and shear stress. One of the main mechanisms to functionally study these channels is the patch clamp technique. Here we use continuum mechanics to probe the question of how curvature, in a standard patch clamp experiment, at different length scales (global and local) affects a model MS channel. Firstly, to increase the accuracy of the Laplace’s equation in tension estimation in a patch membrane and to be able to more precisely describe the transient phenomena happening during patch clamping, we propose a modified Laplace’s equation. In...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nazem, Hadi (Author) ; Ghotbi, Cyrus (Supervisor) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Vosoghi, Manochehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work, partitioning of amino acids such as glutamic acid, phenyl anine and tryptophan in aqueous and ionic liquid phases at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure was measured. [C4mim][Tf2N] is used due can produce two phase with water rapidly. Studying the effect of liquid solution pH on amino acids partitioning shows that increasing of pH results in decreasing of amino acid partitioning coefficient. This phenomenon pertains to electrostatic interactions between cation of amino acid and anion of ionic liquid which reduces when pH increases. Considering the effect of pH, liquid-liquid equilibrium data of amino acids was obtained in a pH that owning maximum partioning coefficient. Chemical...

    Abstract
In this research, organic solvent composed of hexane and methanol was used for lipid extraction from dry and wet biomass of Chlorella vulgaris. The results indicated that lipid and fatty acid extraction yield was decreased by increasing the moisture content of biomass. However, the maximum extraction efficiency was attained by applying equivolume mixture of hexane and methanol for both dry and wet biomass. Thermodynamic modeling was employed to estimate the effect of hexane/methanol ratio and moisture content on fatty acid extraction yield. Hansen solubility parameter was used in adjusting the interaction parameters of the model, which led to decrease the number of tuning parameters from 6...
