    Abstract
This study presents and analyses a novel joint detection and parameters estimation of multiple targets using a co-located multiple input/multiple output radar with moving platform, in the presence of clutter and background noise. A notable feature of the proposed approach is that clutter cancellation is independent of received data. Moreover, to decrease the computational load, the authors propose to perform the target detection and parameters estimation by directly processing on the compressive measurements as opposed to Nyquist samples. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology

DCS: A distributed coordinate system for network positioning

    , Article Proceedings - IEEE International Symposium on Distributed Simulation and Real-Time Applications, DS-RT, 25 October 2009 through 28 October 2009, Singapore ; 2009 , Pages 113-120 ; 15506525 (ISSN) ; 9780769538686 (ISBN) Hariri, N ; Habibi, J ; Shirmohammadi, S ; Hariri, B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Predicting latency between nodes on the internet can have a significant impact on the performance of many services that use latency distances among nodes as a decision making input. Coordinate-based approaches are among the family of latency prediction techniques where latency between each pair of nodes is modeled as the virtual distance among those nodes over a virtual system. This article proposes the Decentralized Coordinate System (DCS) as a fully distributed system that does not rely on any infrastructure support from the underlying network. DCS uses a two-phase algorithm: first, each host is assigned rough coordinates, then, the rough estimation is refined in a way that it gradually...

    Abstract
Direct drive motors have the excellent ability for precision position control due to their direct connection to load and elimination of the gearbox and pulley backlash. Among the direct drive motors, permanent NdFeB magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are the best choice for control systems due to their high efficiency, high power density, good dynamic behaviour, and excellent controllability. This study deals with the design, analysis, and fabrication of a direct drive PMSM for precision position control. To reach this aim, the designed motor should have very low cogging torque and torque ripple to avoid the motor deviation at the target point. To achieve these purposes, at first, a suitable...

    , Article Journal of the Electrochemical Society ; Volume 160, Issue 6 , 2013 , Pages D279-D288 ; 00134651 (ISSN) Bagheri Hariri, M ; Dolati, A ; Siavash Moakhar, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
The mechanism of gold nanowire (AuNW) and nanotube (AuNT) electrodeposition in a cyanide-free solution is investigated for the first time based on the analytical model of Szabo et al. (A. Szabo et al., J. Electroanal. Chem. 217 (1987) 417) for recessed cylindrical ultramicroelectrode (UME). Track-etched Polycarbonate Template (PCT) is served as cylindrical UME ensemble/arrays. Firstly, Au is nucleated through a charge transfer step and when the Nernst thickness exceeds the pore length, the radial diffusion is established around pore mouths. By overlapping of these domains, the planar diffusion toward the whole PCT surface is obtained. An analytic expression for global diffusion coefficient...

    Abstract
Medical image stabilization has been widely used for clinical imaging modalities. Registration is a conspicuous stage for stabilizing dynamic medical images. Some of regular methods are sensitive to bias field distortion. Sparse-induced similarity measure (SISM) is a robust registering method against spatially-varying intensity distortions which is not evitable on clinical imaging instruments. This paper presents a method for registering medical images to average of captured images using SISM method to avoid spatially-varying intensity distortions like Bias field. Proposed method is compared with SSD and MI similarity measure based registrations. Results show enhancement in stabilizing...

Uncertainty quantification in seismic collapse assessment of the Iranian code-conforming RC buildings

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 27, Issue 4 , 2021 , Pages 1786-1802 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Hosseini, A ; Ghaemian, M ; Hariri Ardebili, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Abstract. Structural collapse is the main concern for the existing structures which are built in the seismic-prone regions. Therefore, the primary goal of the seismic provisions in building codes is to prevent the global collapse. Iran is located in the Alpine-Himalayan belt, and has experienced some of the most destructive earthquakes in the past century. To evaluate the extent to which the Iranian building code provisions meet the abovementioned objective, the authors conducted a detailed assessment of collapse risk on a set of moderate moment resisting Reinforced Concrete (RC) buildings. While many features might affect the seismic performance of the RC structures, this study considers...

    Abstract
A novel active queue management (AQM) method is proposed. This method, named NN-RED, is based on the use of a neural network for early congestion prediction. By simulations, it is demonstrated that the performance of the proposed approach is better than the random early detection (RED) method that is currently known as one of the best AQM methods in solving congestion problems. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2007

Exploiting Locality Properties of Nodes for Improving Search Efficiency in P2P Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hariri, Negar (Author) ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The Use of peer-to-peer architectures instead of traditional client-server architecture can be beneficial in many aspects such as increasing scalability of the systems, enhancing fault tolerance in critical situations, extending the system resources and various other advantages. Nowadays, many applications are based on peer-to-peer architectures and as a result, a large portion of the internet traffic is produced by these applications. This has been a motivation to many researchers to focus on reducing the amount of this traffic while satisfying the content distribution demands. One of the main problems that can result in generating large amount of traffic and also long response times for...

Joint compressive single target detection and parameter estimation in radar without signal reconstruction

    , Article IET Radar, Sonar and Navigation ; Volume 9, Issue 8 , September , 2015 , Pages 948-955 ; 17518784 (ISSN) Hariri, A ; Babaie Zadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, a detector/estimator is proposed for compressed sensing radars, which does not need to reconstruct the radar signal, and which works directly from compressive measurements. More precisely, through direct processing of the measurements, and without the need for reconstructing the original radar signal, the system performs target detection, and then estimates range, Doppler frequency shift and radar cross section in the presence of a Gaussian clutter. It can be seen that for large compression ratios, the detection performance and estimation quality is comparable with a common radar system while having a much lower data rate and with less computational load

Compressive detection of sparse signals in additive white Gaussian noise without signal reconstruction

    Abstract
The main motivation behind compressive sensing is to reduce the sampling rate at the input of a digital signal processing system. However, if for processing the sensed signal one requires to reconstruct the corresponding Nyquist samples, then the data rate will be again high in the processing stages of the overall system. Therefore, it is preferred that the desired processing task is done directly on the compressive measurements, without the need for the reconstruction of the Nyquist samples. This paper addresses the case in which the processing task is “detection” (the existence) of a sparse signal in additive white Gaussian noise, with applications e.g. in radar systems. Moreover, we will...

    Abstract
Various methods using different measures have been proposed for ontology alignment. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of such measures to select better ones for more quality alignment. Current approaches for comparing these measures, are highly dependent on alignment frameworks, which may cause unreal results. In this paper, we propose a framework independent evaluation method, and discuss results of applying it to famous existing string measures. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006

Analysis of queuing delay in RPR networks

    , Article 27th IEEE International Performance Computing and Communications Conference, IPCCC 07, New Orleans, LA, 11 April 2007 through 13 April 2007 ; May , 2007 , Pages 134-141 ; 1424411386 (ISBN); 9781424411382 (ISBN) Hariri, B ; Pakravan, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) that has been standardized as IEEE 802.17 is a MAC layer protocol designed for data centric metropolitan area network applications. A well-designed RPR network would be able to offer QoS guarantee for throughput and delay sensitive data classes in addition to providing other types of low cost best effort services. Careful network planning would be required to allow successful provisioning of classA services with strict delay and jitter requirements over RPR networks. This would require the knowledge of the dependency of delay and jitter for classA traffic on the load that is added to the ring. In this article, we propose an algorithm to estimate the dependency of...

    Abstract
predicting the latency between hosts in the internet can play a significant rolein the improvement of the performance of many services that use latency distances among hosts as a decision making input. Although, the information regarding the point to point delay among internet peers is required in many applications, such information is not easily available to the peers. Latency data acquisition requires a considerableamount of measurements to be performed at each node in order for that node to keep a recordof its latency to all the other nodes. Moreover, the measurements need to be regularly repeated in order to be updatedagainst the network dynamics where the latency values are frequently...

    Abstract
Massively Multiuser Virtual Environment (MMVE) applications have the challenge of update message exchange among a large number of users. Real-time collaboration in the virtual environments requires the updates to be exchanged with the minimum end-to-end latency and overhead. This article proposes a new clustering technique to improve the update message exchange efficiency in MMVE applications. The proposed solution is based on the use of ant clustering technique in order to cluster the users based on their geographical proximity. These clusters can be used as localized routing regions in the hierarchical routing architecture and prevent local messages to be routed through long distance hops....

Compressed Sensing Application in Radar Field (SAR)

    Abstract
Although up to now different processing algorithms have been proposed for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) raw data, all of them suffer from one common problem and that is huge amount of data to be processed. So because of current system limitations, efficient compression algorithms for processing, saving, or transmitting data are needed. Up to now many algorithms have been proposed for SAR raw data compression, but each of them has some defects that should be payed attention to. The most important reason of these defects is the special characteristics of SAR images. With the aid of “Compressed Sensing (CS)”, the new field which has emerged recently, a special characteristic of the scene...

    Abstract
Background: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a noninvasive brain stimulation tool suited to alter cortical excitability and activity via the application of weak direct electrical currents. An increasing number of studies in the addiction literature suggests that tDCS modulates subjective self-reported craving through stimulation of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). The major goal of this study was to explore effects of bilateral DLPFC stimulation on resting state networks (RSNs) in association with drug craving modulation. We targeted three large-scale RSNs; the default mode network (DMN), the executive control network (ECN), and the salience network (SN). Methods:...

    Abstract
In this paper we will propose a novel distributed architecture for overlay tree construction in collaborative virtual environments that is unlimitedly scalable due to its fully decentralized nature. The routing issue over this architecture will later be discussed and several forwarding schemes based on distributed hash tables (DHT) will be proposed. One of the main concerns for a routing algorithm is to keep a trade-off between the algorithm locality and the algorithm performance. In a global algorithm where nodes make the forwarding decision based on the information gathered from all other nodes in the network, the routing performance may obviously be better. However such a large group...

    Abstract
Although collaborative distributed simulations and virtual environments (VE) have been an active area of research in the past few years, they have recently gained even more attention due to the emergence of online gaming, emergency simulation and planning systems, and disaster management applications. Such environments combine graphics, haptics, animations and networking to create interactive multimodal worlds that allows participants to collaborate in real-time. Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming (MMOG), perhaps the most widely deployed practical application of distributed virtual environments, allows players to act together concurrently in a virtual world over the Internet. Abstract
This article proposes a new architecture for distributed data management and update massage exchange in massively multiuser virtual environments. The key points in the design of such environments are scalability and QoS-aware message delivery. Therefore it requires robust distributed algorithms in a dynamic peer-to-peer system with frequent node arrivals and departures. Our proposed approach is mainly based on distributed hash tables (DHTs) in order to achieve a decentralized system where any participating node can efficiently retrieve the updates associated with a given object. Therefore, the responsibility of maintaining the mapping from names to values is distributed among the nodes in a...
