Abstract
In this project rotational barrier of C-N bond in Ethyl N-(pyrrolidine carbotioate) has been studied using DNMR spectroscopy. Spectra were taken at various temperatures, and then with simulation of bandshape broadening pattern, rate constants of exchanges were obtained for all temperatures. For simulation of line-shape broadening SpinWorks software was used, which with two interfaces made possible simulation with two bandshape simulator programs, DNMR and MEXICO. The rate constants obtained from simulations, were used for calculation of thermodynamic activation parameters (?G#, ?H#, ?S# and Ea#).Experimental ?G# 298value(Experimental) of 18.3 Kcal/mol for Ethyl N-(pyrrolidine...
Opto-Mechanical Oscillations in Fabry-Perot Cavity With Two Mechanical Degrees of Freedom
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The coupling of optical and mechanical degrees of feedom via radiation pressure has been a subject of early research in the context of gravitational wave detection. Recent experimental advances have allowed studying the modifications of mechanical dynamics provided by radiation pressure. First, this thesis reviews the consequences of dynamic back-action in optical microcavities with mechanical degree of feedom, and presents a unified treatment of its two manifestations: the parametric instability (mechanical amplification or oscillation) and radiation pressure back-action cooling. Then, by considering the Fabry-Perot cavity with two movable mirrors, and using Multi-Reflection Method, we...
Methaphysical Foundations of Modern and Trasitional Medicine
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Monagemi, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Few years the traditional medicine in our society is considered: Traditional colleges have been established, Traditional medicine has been established and numerous media programs produced by experts in traditional medicine. All this indicates is that traditional medicine seek lost credibility and gain its rightful place in our society today. One of the most important aspects of the relationship between traditional medicine with modern medicine. On the one hand trying to make traditional medicine with modern medicine can be defined as complementary medicine. In this regard, first of all defined traditional medicine as a specialty, and efforts to rebuild the achievements of traditional...
Investigating the Effect of the Quantum Potential on Particle Behavior in Nonlocal Spacetime and its Role in Solving the Measurement Problem in the Orthodox Quantum
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Despite the astonishing successes of quantum mechanics, due to some fundamental problems such as the measurement problem and quantum arrival time problem, the predictions of the theory are in some cases not quite clear and unique. Especially, there are various predictions for the joint spatiotemporal distribution of particle detection events on a screen, which are derived from different formulations and interpretations of the quantum theory. Although the differences are typically small, we show that these predictions can be experimentally distinguished by a proposed unconventional double-slit configuration, which is realizable using present-day single-atom interferometry. Furthermore, we...

Abstract
ZnO–CeO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by microwave combustion and deposited by electrophoretic deposition (EPD). The effect of using two different alcohols, ethanol and methanol, was investigated on EPD behavior and morphology of deposited film. Moreover, the effect of concentration of nanoparticles and applied voltage on the mass of deposit and the variation in the current density were investigated. With a change in the alcohol type, the surface morphology of deposition changed and some voids were observed on the deposition surface in ethanol. In all cases, with increasing concentration of nanoparticles in suspension, the number of developed cracks increased. Besides, a rise in voltage...
Transverse Localization in Optical Waveguide Arrays
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Langari, Abdollah (Supervisor) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Co-Advisor) ; Mahdavi, Mohammad (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
In recent years, a strong interplay between quantum mechanics and the physics of waveguide arrays was established based on a formal analogy between atomic and photonic lattices. The study of light evolution in photonic lattices has provided deep insights into the physics of wave function dynamics and, hence, peculiar quantum mechanical features. Arrays of evanescently coupled waveguides is a very versatile model system for discrete physics. Anderson localization and Bloch oscillations are two examples of coherent quantum transport phenomena, which have been investigated in this thesis. In the first part of this thesis, we investigate numerically the effect of long-range interaction on the...

What is it to be Physical?
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this text to find the answer of the question “ what is it to be physical” in a definition form or a scheme of the term physical, firstly we sought for a possible consensus among recent physicists and philosophers. But from their answers not only we did not find any clear consensus but also most of them confess that the term is ambiguous and unclear. In a general aspect, we can categorize the answers to two theoretical and realistic perspective. The theoretical perspective, beside circularity and Hempel’s triviality, seems not to present any criteria for being physical. In realistic perspective, it seems that there is no ontologic constraint for being physical, that is from “being...
Relative Merits of the Two Famous Formulations of Bohmian Mechanics
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The goal of this thesis is to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the two existing formulations of Bohmian mechanics. The first one was proposed by Bohm, and emphasizes on the dynamics being second-order, and in which, the key tool for explaining the quantum phenomena is a non-classical potential, called "the quantum potential". In this approach, the postulates of de Broglie's "pilot-wave" theory, which now is known as Bohmian mechanics, are non-fundamental and are special to the atomic level. The possibility is proposed that these postulates become subjected to some modifications at the nuclear or lower levels, but no particular way for performing such modifications is suggested. The...
The Necessity of a Privileged Frame of Reference in Physics
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani , Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the special theory of relativity, it is not necessary to propose that there is no privileged frame of reference but because this formalism is of the epistemological level, we can not deduce this ontological conclusion. On the other hand, there are different physical motivations for a privileged frame of reference and also there is an alternative physical model for special relativity called inertial transformations which is similar to the special theory of relativity at the observational level, but there is a privileged frame of reference in that theory. In this paper, I have tried to collect motivations for a privileged frame of reference in physics, in order to prepare a source for those...
Changing Attitude towards Human in the Renaissance
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Natural sciences have philosophical and ideological fundamentals. "The attitude towards human", is one of these philosophic or metaphysical fundamentals of science so that scientists and researchers, attentive or not, take it as a basis for their scientific activities. In the other hand, "the science" also affects "The attitude towards human", and different scientific theories caused various attitudes towards human to take shape. "Renaissance" is one of the most important and sophisticated historical periods of the west`s history, and the changes in this period are among the main basics of entering the modern age. In this thesis, first of all some issues about the fundamentals of the science...
Superluminal Signaling in the Relationship Between Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Non-locality was taken into account, in the first place by Bell’s inequalities in Quantum Mechanics. With the emergence of non-locality, it seems that there is a fundamental conflict between the two basic theories of the 20th century, Quantum Mechanics and Relativity. Relativity is constructed upon local descriptions, but there are some hidden non-local features in Quantum Mechanics .Thus, superluminal signaling, which is in conflict with Relativity, has attracted a lot of attention and some ideas were proposed , using this non-local feature, to send superluminal signal. But, the no-signaling theorems claim that none of these features can be used to send superluminal signal. On the other...
A Review of Practical Tests of Qantum Mechanics in Macroscopic Domain and its Relevance to the Measurement Problem
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The measurement problem is one of the issues that is still under debate about the Quantum theory. A significant part of literature during the recent years includes the standard point of view about this problem (including the separation of microscopic and macroscopic domains) and the criticisms of some major physicists in this context. Among these, alternative theories and interpretations have been getting more attention. Experimental tests of Quantum Mechanics in the macroscopic domain and their comparison with alternative theories have always encountered various difficulties (in particular the decoherence phenomenon). Anyway, towards the end of the last century, with the advances in...
The Arrow of Time in Physics
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
For more than a century, physicists have recognized the contrast between the asymmetry of thermodynamic phenomena and T-symmetry of the fundamental laws, and they have referred to it as the arrow of time. In this thesis we tried to give an overview of the past and present status of this problem, using various theories. It is shown that the problem becomes a question about the boundary conditions of thermodynamic systems, and then a question about cosmology, and finally it becomes the problem of initial conditions of universe. An analysis of initial condition theories is presented for knowing how each of them tries to solve the problem of arrow of time. Different views about the relationship...
Study of Varying Speed of Light Cosmology as an Alternative to Inflationary Cosmology
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Inflationary Cosmology is the prevailing paradigm of Early Universe Cosmology. In these models, by considering that in the first moments after the Big Bang, there has been a scalar field which has dominated the energy of the universe, we can create a an era called inflation in which the scale factor has a positive acceleration. By such an era, we can solve some of the problems of the Standard Big Bang (SBB) theory such as the horizon problem and the flatness problem, which are in relation with the initial conditions. In addition, this paradigm creates a suitable context for explaining the creation of the inhomogeneities in the universe. Therefore, these models have a predictability feature...
Describing Measurment Apparatus by Hidden Variables in the Deduction of Bell Inequality
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Quantum Mechanics, as the most famous physical theory was founded about 85 years ago; but still there are a lot of debates about its interpretation. In this work, we review some basic concepts of Quantum Mechanics in form of questions about uncertainty principle, measurement problem and complementarily. We also review Bell inequality which has great philosophical and recently technological results. Bell derived his inequality regardless of modeling the measuring apparatus; we show, by take a realistic model for measuring apparatus, Bell inequality would be deduced. Finally we review a mathematical language which was used to show the duality of wave and particle. Quantum...
Are Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity in Peaceful Coexistence?
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Quantum mechanics is very succesful in the description and prediction of the microphysical world. So nowadays very few doubt its authenticity. Nevertheless, there are some conceptual issues that are still under debate, such as action at a distance. It took a while after the introduction of the EPR paradox in 1935 until John Stewart Bell derived an inequality, using local hidden variables. This inequality was in contrast with predictions of quantum mechanics. Experiments also contradicted this inequality. This implies that there is action at distance which, in turn suggests, the violation of the special relativity. In this thesis, we consider this issue and shall see that on the one hand we...
Differences Between Standard Quantum Mechanics and Bohm's Quantum Mechanics
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The purpose of introducing this thesis is to review the difference between Standard Quantum mechanics and Bohmian Quantum mechanics. The aim of this dissertation is not only to contrast these theories with respect to formulation, but also to briefly review their historical, philosophical and sociological aspects. This dissertation consists of two main sections. The first section is about reviewing the emergence profile of these theories and the formation of each theory along its historical path. In addition some beliefs about the founders of these theories and the impact of their beliefs on the evolution of their theories are put forward. As a complement to the above, the prevailing social...
A Critical Investigation of Concept and Situation of Time, Information and Entropy in Thermodynamics and their Relation
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the important issues in the fundamental physics is the arrow of time. According to the fundamental theories, motion is symmetry with respect to the passage of time while on a macroscopic level time has direction. In the macroscopic models the arrow of time is provided by the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The thermodynamic arrow is often linked to the cosmological arrow of time, because it is ultimately about the boundary conditions of the early universe.Recently people have tried to suppose this challenge as a fundamental issue and use this as fundamental assumption in their theories.A number of models have attempted to solve the problem based on the concept of information....
Asymmetry Between Matter and Antimatter in the Universe
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Although the origin of matter-antimatter asymmetry remains unknown, continuing advances in theory and improved experimental limits have ruled out some scenarios for baryogenesis: for example, the sphaleron baryogenesis at the electroweak phase transition in the standard model. In this thesis, we give an introduction to some of the ideas and attempts to understand the origin of the matte -antimatter asymmetry of the universe. After the discussion of some basic issues of cosmology and particle theory, the scenarios of electroweak baryogenesis, GUT baryogenesis, and leptogenesis are outlined
