Analogies and Differences Between Auantum Mechanics and Quanmtum Field Theory (Causality and Locality)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi Shahraki, Reza (Author) ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Causality and locality are two of the fundamental problems in physics and physicists have different interpretations of them. In new physics theories like Quantum mechanics and Quantum field theory, the main point of discussion is that whether these two theories are local and causal or not? In first chapter, we introduce the principle of causality. The second and third chapters cover causality in Quantum mechanics and Quantum field theory. The last chapter is about locality

Chaotic Dynamics of Active Topological Defects

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Alireza (Author) ; Ejtehadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Topological defects are interesting phenomena which can be observed in ordered phases such as oriented active fluids or nematic liquid crys¬ tals. Topological defects are determined by the overall structure of the director field in an active fluid in nematic phase and by exerting force to the units of the active particles they can interact or cause motion in the environment. Studying them as particles with dynamical equations, instead of studying the director field of the nematic environment, would provide us the power to study the characteristics of their motion. The equations of motion for multi¬defect systems have been previously stud¬ ied and in this work we focus on the chaotic...

Analysis of Ratcheting in Elastic-plastic Behavior of Li-ion Battery Electrodes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Among the various materials, silicon anodes have the highest lithium absorption in lithium-ion batteries. But this high lithium absorption capacity can cause 300 percent volume expansion and large stresses. Experimental observations show that charge and discharge cycles may cause plastic deformation in some parts of the electrode particle. On the other hand, there is a possibility of a ratcheting phenomenon due to changing in elastic properties of the electrode material during the charging and discharging processes. However, this phenomenon has not been reported for silicon spherical electrode particles yet. This study aims to model the elastic-plastic behavior of silicon spherical electrode...

Effect of the Geometry of Colloidal Particles on Nematic Liquid Crystals

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Masoumeh (Author) ; Ejtehadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Mozaffari, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
A liquid crystal is a state of matter composed of highly anisotropic building blocks. When liquid crystals are exposed to surfaces with given shapes and anchoring conditions, the orientation of their molecules gets spatially disordered and topological defects may form in the system. The interplay between liquid crystals and the geometry and topology of the colloidal particles has motivated extensive recent studies. In this thesis, we present the numerical modeling results for two faceted colloidal particles in a thermotropic nematic liquid crystal. To obtain the equilibrium nematic field with a finiteelement method, we numerically minimize the free energy of the system that based on the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Mohammad (Author) ; Alizadeh, Reza (Supervisor) ; Aashouri, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Magnesium and its alloys have gained a lot of interest recently in the field of biodegradable implants, particularly in the field of orthopedics, mainly due to their excellent compatibility, low density and similarity of their mechanical properties with the human bone. However, the main weakness of magnesium for such applications is that it corrodes faster than the time required for complete healing of the tissue. Different properties of Mg can be improved by making composites. In this research, 1% and 2% of MgO microparticles were added to the Mg-1Zn-0.2Ag alloy. These composites were made by the stir casting technique, and after that, the samples' microstructure, mechanical...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saadatmand Hashemi, Shakiba (Author) ; Alizadeh, Reza (Supervisor) ; Ashuri, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Magnesium and its alloys are among the new degradable implants due to their characteristics such as biodegradability, low density, elastic modulus close to bone, and biocompatibility, which have received much attention from researchers. However, in most biological applications, the insufficient corrosion resistance of this alloy causes the accumulation of hydrogen gas around the implant, the loss of mechanical strength and its destruction before the completion of the treatment period. In this research, magnesium base alloys Mg–4Sn, Mg–4Sn–0.2Ag and Mg–4Sn–1Ag are investigated to improve mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. Finally, after casting and alloying, microstructural,...

Air quenching as a reliable technique to obtain colossal dielectric constant with low loss in (In, Nb)-co doped TiO2

    , Article Materials Letters ; Volume 267 , May , 2020 Maleki Shahraki, M ; Mahmoudi, P ; Karimi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B. V  2020
    Abstract
In this research, for the first time, the effect of air quenching on the microstructural and electrical properties of (In, Nb) co-doped TiO2 was investigated. The FE-SEM images showed that the air quenching has no effect on microstructure of co-doped TiO2. However, air quenching affected the electrical properties so that the dielectric constant in the frequency of 1 kHz at room temperature sharply enhanced from 21*103 to 26*104 and the dielectric loss surprisingly decreased from 0.6 to 0.1. This incredible improvement in the dielectric properties is attributed to the electron-pined defect dipoles which has been activated through air quenching. © 2020 Elsevier B.V

    Abstract
Up to now, attempts for developing coarse-grained SnO2-based varistors which exhibit high nonlinearity property at lower voltage have become a challenge without any prominent result because of its unknown grain growth mechanism. In this study, the effect of CuO addition to SnO2-based varistors as a grain growth enhancer additive on microstructural development, grain growth kinetics, and electrical properties was investigated. The characterization of grain growth kinetics showed that CuO addition encouraged grain growth and enhanced the grains size as it could be seen in the activation energy which decreased from 594 kJ/mol to 364 kJ/mol. In the samples with a low amount of CuO, the solute...

    , Article Applied Physics A: Materials Science and Processing ; Vol. 115, issue. 2 , 2014 , p. 595-603 Alidoosty Shahraki, M ; Khorasani, S ; Aram, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
The cavity quantum electrodynamics of various complex systems is here analyzed using a general versatile code developed in this research. Such quantum multi-partite systems normally consist of an arbitrary number of quantum dots in interaction with an arbitrary number of cavity modes. As an example, a nine-partition system is simulated under different coupling regimes, consisting of eight emitters interacting with one cavity mode. Two-level emitters (e.g. quantum dots) are assumed to have an arrangement in the form of a linear chain, defining the mutual dipole-dipole interactions. It was observed that plotting the system trajectory in the phase space reveals a chaotic behavior in the...
