, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khedmati, Majid (Supervisor) ; Foroozan Nia, Khalil (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Heart disease is one of the major causes of death in all countries, especially developing countries. At the moment, using Image Processing methods as well as analysis of electrocardiographic signals, heart disease is diagnosed with the help of specialists. Applying artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, many studies attempted to provide models that are used to diagnose automatically the heart disease without the need for a specialist and only relying on the past data. But less is done on CTA images of the heart. Hence, in this thesis, a new method for image processing and a Multi Support Vector Machine (MSVM) classification for coronary artery disease detection based on CTA...

Abstract
Several studies in the field of performance management have paid attention to the effect of systemic and instrumental factors on the effectiveness of performance management system. However, the impact of communication and relational factors has received less attention. Furthermore, it seems that similar approach has been used in organizations for considering systemic factors in designing performance management systems rather than human factors. The goal of this research was to study the relationship between employees' trust in their manager as an relational variable with the effectiveness of performance management system and to compare this relationship with the relationship between the...
Resource Sharing in Mobile Clouds
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
Abstract
By definition, Mobile Clouds are networks of mobile nodes, which are connected together using short-range communication links, and at the same time keep their connection with the long-range cellular networks. Short-range communication links in Mobile Clouds provide the opportunity of Resource Sharing, which can result in new services for end-users. These services are beyond the boundaries of traditional networks.
In the following report, we aim at focusing on some problems related to Mobile Clouds. First, we present a centralized model for managing the mobility of the nodes; then we try to propose algorithms for efficient data update and processing; and finally, we introduce a novel...

Performance Improvement of User-Provided Networks through Economic Optimization
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
Abstract
A user-provided network (UPN) has the potential to achieve a low cost ubiq-uitous Internet connectivity without the need of significantly increase of network infrastructure investment. In this article, we consider such a network where the network operator encourages some of her subscribers to operator as mobile Wi-Fi hotspots (hosts), providing Inter-net connectivity for other subscribers (clients). We formulate the interaction between the operators and mobile users as a two-stage game. In Stage I, the operator decides the usage-based pricing and quota-based incentive mechanism for the data usage. In Stage II, the mobile users decide the membership selection, i.e., choosing to be a host, or a...

Abstract
This thesis seeks to identify the critical barriers to strategy implementation in an Iranian firm, and also concentrates on the readiness for strategy implementation phase. Previous studies show that many of strategic plans fail in implementation phase. Therefore, implementation and readiness for implementation phases are both important phases. The very few studies in this topic in Iranian industrial context illustrate the same issue in local context; however, these barriers may vary from one context to another. Different approaches and frameworks in the literature have been reviewed in order to build a theoretical frame work to seek the barriers to implementing a strategic plan in an...
Online Voltage Stability Assessment Based on Wide Area Measurements
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Mozafari, Babak (Supervisor)
Abstract
Online voltage stability assessment is essential for preventing the failure in power systems. Voltage instability in power systems usually occurs in consequence of contingency situations or continuous load increasing or both of them. A new method for online voltage stability assessment using the data acquired from phasor measurement units (PMUs) and offline trained decision trees is presented in this thesis. The index of voltage stability margin (VSM) is used for security assessment and considering WSCC criterion, different operation points are divided in two classes: safe and unsafe. In order to obtain the voltage stability margin and generate the database, a new method which has been named...

Performance Improvement of Content Delivery Wireless Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, enormous amounts of data are transferred through data communication networks every day in order to fulfill end users’ demands all over the world. The capacities of the links between network nodes, or in other words, the amount of bandwidth available to carry data is undoubtedly one of the most expensive resources as well as the one of most importance which not only plays an essential role in communicating information packets over such a vast network, but is a major determinant of Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of rapidity as well. The idea of using cache memories to optimize network bandwidth consumption laid the foundation for developing Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). In such...

Based on several interviews with different stakeholders of the corporation within subsidiary boards of these two groups and the staff managers of the parent company, we compared the mechanisms that...
Relationship Between Feedback-Seeking Motives and Dimensions and Individual Performance in an Iranian Knowledge-Based Organization
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Alavi, Babak (Supervisor) ; Miremadi, Iman (Supervisor)
Abstract
The present study investigates the relationships between feedback-seeking dimensions (frequency, method, timing, and content) and two types of individual performance (goal achievement and behavior-related performance). In addition, the relationships between feedback-seeking motives and feedback-seeking dimensions are examined. The purpose is to identify new explanations for the inconclusive results of the direct relationship between feedback-seeking and performance in the literature. Moreover, this study investigates work motivations based on self-determination theory as the antecedents of feedback-seeking motives. This study contains one qualitative phase and two quantitative ones....
Examining the Impact of Key Factors on Esteghlal Tehran Fans' Intention to Attend Matches: A Social Identity Theory Perspective
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alavi, Babak (Supervisor) ; Saghafian, Marzieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
This study investigated the relationships between team identification and attendance intention in Iranian football matches, specifically examining the impact of constraints on this relationship. The research focused on Esteghlal Football Club, one of Iran's most popular teams, which faces a paradox of having a large fan base (35-40 million supporters) but relatively low stadium attendance rates (below 50% capacity). The study employed a mixed online sampling method (convenience and snowball) with 182 Esteghlal fans who had attended at least one stadium match. Data was collected using three validated questionnaires: team identification (18 items, 6 dimensions), attendance intention (4 items,...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor) ; Motahari, Abolfazl (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, we have studied the effect of coding techniques, as well as partial data placement in cache memories throughout the network. Cache memories play an important role in information centric networks. As content delivery account for the major part of data transfers in current IP-based data networks, these network structures have gained much attention recently and hence optimizing cache performance in their structure is of great importance.Throughout this research, we first analyze the effect of simultaneous data delivery from multiple cache memories on the network performance. We consider two basic models for the network graph; and show there exists a fundamental trade-off among...

Abstract
Optimisation is ubiquitous and essential in almost all areas of engineering and computer science for the design and analysis of efficient systems and algorithms. Indeed, many engineering problems can be cast as optimisation problems, in which a decision must be made upon certain control parameters in order to maximise revenue or minimise an incurred cost in designing a system. Whereas deterministic optimization problems are formulated with known parameters, real-world problems almost invariably include parameters which are unknown at the time a decision is made. Stochastic optimisation is the approach for modelling optimization problems that involve uncertainty, and it has attracted a lot of...
Interference Management Approaches in the Presence of Physical Limitations
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor) ; Maddah Ali, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, we consider multiple-antenna K-user interference channels with backhaul collaboration in one side (among the transmitters or among the receivers) and investigate the trade-off between the rate in the channel versus the communication load in the backhaul. In this investigation, we focus on a first order approximation result, where the rate of the wireless channel is measured by the degrees of freedom (DoF) per user, and the load of the backhaul is measured by the entropy of backhaul messages per user normalized by log of transmit power, at high power regimes. This trade-off is fully characterized for the case of even values of K, and approximately characterized for the case of...
Static and Dynamic Postbuckling of Stiffened Laminated Composite Conical Shell
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Kouchakzadeh, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor) ; Mirzavand Boroujeni, Babak (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this dissertation, the buckling and postbuckling analysis of lattice conical shells are presented. The outer skins of the shell may be reinforced by cross-ply laminated composites. The shell is subjected to uniform axial compression and the boundary conditions are simply supported. This problem is solved using two different approaches. At first approach, the main priority is high speed calculations, which is investigated in static and dynamic types of loadings. In the case of static loads, the equilibrium equations are formulated based on the classical theory and von Karman type of nonlinearity. The equations are solved by Galerkin method and a closed-form relation is derived. In the case...
Corrosion of Aluminum Foil (99% Purity) in Lithium Ion Batteries with Lithium Hexafluorophosphate Electrolyte ()
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Riyahifar, Reza (Co-Supervisor) ; Raeesi, Babak (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the problems that affects the lifetime and cycle life of lithium ion batteries is the localized corrosion of aluminum current collector (during the storage and charging cycle). Since applying corrosion-resistant coating has always been one of the ways to reduce corrosion of materials in different environments, in the present project, this method has been used to prevent corrosion of aluminum in lithium-ion batteries. For this purpose, the graphene oxide coating, which has desirable anti-corrosion properties, was coated on aluminum by Electrophoretic deposition and doctor blade methods. linear polarization, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were performed to...
