Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Mohammad Saleh (Author) ; Sameti, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Punctuation marks in every language, constitute an important part of a text. Not inserting these punctuations in text, makes the text ambiguous. The output text of automatic speech recognition (ASR) system, is typically a raw sequence of words, containing no punctuation marks. This makes the text difficult or even impossible to make sense of for humans, as well as for any further text processing tasks. The goal of this thesis is to perform automatic punctuation insertion in Persian texts lacking punctuation marks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work done in this context for the Persian language. For this purpose, firstly, we assembled a state-of-the-art corpus to train and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini Moghaddam, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Ghanbarpour Asl, Habib (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this Thesis, attitude and orbit of a satellite is estimated using a star sensor and an earth sensor. An algorithm has been developed to estimate satellite attitude and orbit that can be implement on a satellite as strap-down hardware. This system has an uncomplicated implementation compared with platform based systems. That mentioned algorithm estimates satellite orbit by using identified star vectors via star sensor and identified earth vector via earth sensor simultaneously. It also knows the stars vectors according to Star Catalog. Attitude estimation is also executed using both star and earth sensor. It has to be said that an Unscented Kalman Filter synthesize both sensors output data...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haddadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Author) ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor) ; Hosseini, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main objective of this study is a numerical simulation of flow and mixing behavior of two miscible liquids in a new static mixer over the Reynolds number in the range of 20-160. The performance of the proposed static mixer has been compared with the well-known three different static mixers namely, Kenics, SMX, and Komax. Pressure drop ratio (Z-factor), a coefficient of variation (CoV) and extensional efficiency (α) characteristics were, respectively, used to evaluate power consumption, distributive mixing and dispersive mixing performances in all static mixers. Since there are no experimental data for examined mixers, firstly, the CFD model was validated with measured data of the...

Application of Adversarial Training in Medical Signals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yousefi Moghaddam, Hossein (Author) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Rohban, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recent success of Deep Learning models, resulted in their evergrowing application in many fields. However these models usually require huge datasets, which can sometimes be hard to collect. One of the challenges related to medical data, is the Batch Effect; Medical data is usually gathered through multiple experiments. Each experiment might have a slightly different conditions than the other, resulting a shift in the data related to that batch. Batch effects can have more severe impact during testing time, as the shift in the data distribution could be bigger. Many methods have been proposed to reduce or remove the effect of external conditions on data distribution.Deep Learning models have...

Application of Adaptive Method in Optimum Seismic Design of Steel Moment Resisting Frames and Dampers

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hosseini Gelekolai, Mojtaba (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The preliminary design of building structures is normally based on the equivalent lateral forces provided in seismic design guidelines. The height-wise distribution of these loads is predominantly based on elastic vibration modes. However, as structures exceed their elastic limits in severe earthquakes, these design load patterns may not necessarily lead to efficient distribution of strength within the structures. To address this issue, several alternative load patterns have been proposed for the seismic design of non-linear structures. However, due to the simplifications involved in the development of these design load patterns, their adequacy needs to be assessed for different structural...

Controlling a Walking Humanoid Robot Using Intelligent Control

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Reza (Author) ; Sadati, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Humanoid robots are robots that are similar in appearance and performance to humans. Designing and controlling a humanoid robot to perform such supposedly ordinary tasks as walking, running, writing, talking, driving, riding bikes, and the like is such a difficult task from the control point of view that it seems to be quite ambitious and inaccessible. In this thesis, the previous efforts of scientists and researchers are presented using different intelligent controllers. Additionally, the dynamic analysis of selective biped (seven-link biped robot) is illustrated. In this research, we present a method to control the walking of the biped robot while retaining stability. In this method the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheikh Hosseini, Saeed (Author) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Ghazanfari, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A numerical simulation of fluid flow in gas condensate wellbore, which annular flow is dominant, is performed. A three fluid model is used for annular two phase flow. The model is based on conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy for gas phase, dispersed phase (droplets) and the film. The friction between phases and with wellbore wall and also mass transfer between phases, which conservation equations rely on them, are considered. Computer programming of obtained system of equations is performed in Matlab. The Reimann method is used for solving our system of hyperbolic equations and simulation is performed for both steady and unsteady state. Transforming system of nonlinear...

    , Article Structures ; Volume 33 , 2021 , Pages 1690-1704 ; 23520124 (ISSN) Moghaddam, H ; Hajirasouliha, I ; Hosseini Gelekolai, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
In this study, a performance-based optimisation framework is proposed for optimal cross-sectional distribution of steel moment resisting frames (MRFs) subject to earthquake excitations. For the first time, the concept of uniform distribution of damage (UDD) is adopted for the complex optimisation of moment resisting steel frames under dynamic earthquake excitations. To enhance the computational efficiency of the optimisation process, a novel adaptive algorithm is proposed, where the power functions change based on the demand to capacity ratio of the structural elements. The framework is then used for optimisation of 3, 5, 7, 10 and 15-storey steel MRFs under a set of representative...

Investigation of Strength and Ductility of Hinged Khorjini Connection

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Sajjad (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor) ; Eskandari, Morteza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Khorjini connection is a type of connection in steel frames, in which the beam remains continuous at the intersection with column. In its ordinary form, this beam is connected to the face of column section using upper and lower angles. This type of connection is frequently used in construction of steel frames in Iran due to economic advantages and ease of fabrication. However since it is rarely used in other countries, its behavior and method of design is not described in international references and standards. The failure of the connections is a dominant type of seismic fraction in a building (The main reason of structural failures in Manjil and Roudbar earthquake – 1990). Contrary to the...

Evaluation of Rateless Coding on Relay Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shirvani Moghaddam, Mahyar (Author) ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Fountain codes enable wireless networks to adapt their transmission rates to the state of the channels, without the need for channel state information (CSI) at the transmitters. According to the following properties of rateless codes, ever increasing parity generation, mutual information receiver, single bit feedback, and information combining receiver, they are good choice for relay networks. In this research, the design of rateless codes for wireless relay networks has been studied. Cross layer issues should be seriously considered when using rateless codes in the packet level. One cross-layer scheme has been developed in this thesis and analysis show that the performance of the proposed...

Detection and Implementation of Hardware Backdoor in Programmable Logic Controller

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babaei Moghaddam, Ahmad (Author) ; Jahangir, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, extensive use of Hardware Trojan Horses (HTH) or backdoors is more prevalent than ever. We could count disruption, disabling, eavesdropping and sending out internal information as misuse.
In this project, we embed hardware trojan in a Programmable Logic Controller, and present different methods to detect and neutralize them. This is an important issue, as PLCs should work in a safe environment especially in industrial environments while keeping the information intact is significant as even a slight intentional malfunction could cause data to be lost or disclosed, and result in a catastrophe. Subsequently, features of hardware of PLCs should be examined and the right place of...

In this thesis, a hardware-based system for testing network equipment with 10 Gbps ports has been designed and implemented. This system...

Improving Payload Attribution Systems for Network Forensic Applications

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Mohammad (Author) ; Jahangir, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Payload Attribution Systems (PAS) are one of the most important tools of network forensics for detecting offenders and victims after the occurrence of a cybercrime. A PAS stores the network traffic history in order to detect the source and destination pair of a certain data stream in case a malicious activity occurs on the network. The huge volume of information that is daily transferred in the network means that the data stored by a PAS must be as compact and concise as possible. Moreover, the investigation of this large volume of data for a malicious data stream must be handled within a reasonable time. For this purpose, several techniques based on storing a digest of traffic using Bloom...

    Hilbert’s Program

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Mohammad Erfan (Author) ; Ardeshir, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we provide a comprehensive overview of the efforts made towards achieving the goals of Hilbert’s program, and evaluate how successful They are. We begin by discussing Gödel’s incompleteness theorems, and then as a first attempt we present a brief presentation of Gentzen’s consistency theorem. Subsequently, various research fields that branched out from these initial efforts are explored, encompassing the application of the Omega-Rule, reverse mathematics, and self-verifying systems. Furthermore, we present the concept of “Almost Finitistic Consistency” as an alternative approach within Hilbert’s program. In conclusion, a thorough assessment of the success of Hilbert’s program...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Asgari, Afrouz (Author) ; Hosseini, Abolfazl (Supervisor) ; Choopan Dastjerdi, Mohammad Hossein (Co-Supervisor) ; Mokhtari, Javad (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this research is to establish a neutron reference field for the calibration of neutron dosimeters based on the beam of the neutron radiography system in the Isfahan miniature neutron source reactor (MNSR). The aim is to address the several limitations, including the inability to achieve a wide range of dosimetry, high uncertainty due to variations in distance from the source, significant scattering, and non-uniformity. To overcome these issues, a linear, stable, and wide-range dosimetry field based on MNSR have been established, characterized and evaluated by using the variations of the reactor power. In the first step of establishing the calibration field, the linear and...
