    Abstract
Today, several centuries after the time when science began to flourish of science, everybody is familiar with destroying consequences of modern science and technology, in addition to its achievments. Besides, domination and exclusive position of science in educational system and government organizations have marginalized alternative knowledge. Thus, some people found this trend dangerous for humankind’s fate and tried to change this situation. Nasr and Feyerabend are two philosophers that despite their different work area both criticise modern science and try to establish their own ideal scientific community.Nasr’s approach is regeneration of traditional science which was prevalent before...

A Randomized Cache Policy for Network of Caches

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farhadi, Pegah (Author) ; Sarbazi-Azad, Hamid (Supervisor) ; Seyed Rezaza Dalali, Mostafa (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In a network of caches, the precious cache space must be efficiently managed. A wasteful cache management algorithm might make redundant copies of the same content at several caches. Therefore, there must be an algorithm (a.k.a admission policy) to find a proper location in the network for every content to be cached. One way to locate different content at different caches is based on content popularity. Thus, popular content is closer to requesters. However, measuring content popularity at every router is not practical due to the high overhead the algorithm imposes on the routers. A more practical approach is to distribute different parts of the content to several caches along the path from...

    Abstract
Damage tolerance improvement has been reported by laminating aluminum alloys and composites by researchers. Three-layer laminates comprising Al6061 outer layers and Al1050 interlayer have been roll bonded in this research. While most of the works done have focused on fracture properties of roll bonded Al laminates in crack arrester geometry, this study explores their behavior in crack divider configuration. Rolling strain is varied to control the interfacial bonding in laminates. The fracture behavior of laminates and the constituent material was examined via three-point bending and impact tests. This study presents significant improvement in damage tolerance of laminates compared to their...

    Abstract
The creep behavior of particulate Al-5vol.% SiC composite was investigated. The composite powder was produced by mechanical milling and hot extruded at 450°C at the ratio of 16:1. A creep test was carried out at a constant load at 598, 648, and 673 K. Using the existing equations proposed for the steady-state creep of metals, the threshold stress and the stress exponent of the creep as a function of temperature were determined. The stress exponent was found to be 3 at the temperature of 673 K and 8 at the lower temperatures, i.e. 598 and 648 K. The dependency of the threshold stress to temperature obeys the Arrhenius relationship with the energy term of 29 kJ mole-1

Study on the Fracture Behavior of Roll-bonded Laminate and FGM Structures with Crack Divider Orientation Based on Al6061-SiC Composites

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hosseini Monazzah, Asal (Author) ; Seyed Reihani, Mortez (Supervisor) ; Bagheri, Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Discontinuously reinforced aluminum matrix composites (DRA) are candidates as a substantial class of materials for improved strength, stiffness, and wear resistance. However, the low fracture resistance of DRA's has restricted the widespread use of these materials as structural components. Consequently, intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms have been considered in order to enhance the damage tolerance of composite materials based on microstructural and architectural modification, respectively. The intrinsic toughening technique has shown to elevate fracture resistance to some extent; usually at the expense of reducing several other properties such as strength. The more recent approach to...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shakib, Saeed (Author) ; Kermanshah, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Like any other Information Communication Technology (ICT) solution, E-shopping alters shopping trip patterns in a city. Product internet searching is another ICT solution which affects shopping trip patterns in a city. At the first stage, by producing ordinal regression models, this study explores all factors which are effective in adoption and frequency of product internet searching and e-shopping. In the next step, rather than pre-imposing restrictive assumptions regarding dependence, this study determines the structure of dependency between product internet searching and e-shopping with two (adoption and frequency) joint models by implementing the copula-based approach. This study relies...

    Abstract
In this study, lamination as extrinsic mechanism was considered to enhance damage tolerance of three-layer Al6061-5%vol. SiCp/Al1050/Al6061-5%vol. SiCp composites. To fabricate laminates of dissimilar interfacial adhesion, different rolling strains were applied during hot roll-bonding. The discrepancy in interfacial strength of laminates was examined by shear test while toughness values were studied using three-point bending test. It was revealed that both interfacial adhesion and damage tolerance were influenced by rolling strain. Interfacial bonding played the major role in the energy absorption during fracture which was quantified as initiation, propagation and total toughness. The...
