Hyperbolic Branching Brownian Motion
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Esfahani Zade, Mostafa (Supervisor)
Abstract
Hyperbolic branching Brownian motion is a branching diffusion process in which individual particles follow independent Brownian paths in the hyperbolic plane H2, and undergo binary fission(s) at rate λ > 0. It is shown that there is a phase transition in λ : For λ ≤ 1/8 the number
of particles in any compact region of H2 is eventually 0, w.p.1, but for λ > 1/8 the number of particles in any open set grows to ∞ w.p.1. In the subcritical case (λ ≤ 1/8) the set Λ of all limit points in ∂H2 (the boundary circle at ∞) of particle trails is a Cantor set, while in the supercritical case (λ > 1/8) the set Λ has full Lebesgue measure. For λ ≤ 1/8 it is shown that w.p.1 the Hausdorff dimension of Λ...

Sparse Representation and its Applications in Multi-Sensor Problems
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Babaie-Zade, Massoud (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recovery of low-rank matrices from compressed linear measurements is an extension for the more well-known topic of recovery of sprse vectors from underdetermined measurements.Since the natural approach (i.e., rank minimization) for recovery of low-rank matrices is generally NP-hard, several alternatives have been proposed. However, there is a large gap between what can be achieved from these alternatives and the natural approach in terms of maximum rank of the unique solutions and the error of recovery. To narrow this gap, two novel algorithms are proposed. The main idea of both algorithms is to closely approximate the rank with a smooth function of singular values and then minimize the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Performance of a multi tube pulse detonation engine has been investigated experimentally. A pulse detonation engine uses detonation phenomena and simply consists of a large narrow tube which has closed head, and has feeding system and ignition system. In this tube, detonation is produced periodically to generate thrust. In multi-tube mode, several tubes are arranged in parallel which detonate sequentially. Our PDE consists of 2 tubes with 70 cm length and 25 mm inner diameter which have several places performed for high speed pressure sensors installation. The premixed hydrogen-oxygen mixture are controlled by solenoid valve and injected on head-end and ignited by conventional spark plug....
Hilbert’s Program
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ardeshir, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, we provide a comprehensive overview of the efforts made towards achieving the goals of Hilbert’s program, and evaluate how successful They are. We begin by discussing Gödel’s incompleteness theorems, and then as a first attempt we present a brief presentation of Gentzen’s consistency theorem. Subsequently, various research fields that branched out from these initial efforts are explored, encompassing the application of the Omega-Rule, reverse mathematics, and self-verifying systems. Furthermore, we present the concept of “Almost Finitistic Consistency” as an alternative approach within Hilbert’s program. In conclusion, a thorough assessment of the success of Hilbert’s program...

The Study of the Photocatalytic Effect of ZSM-5 Zeolite
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghanbari, Bahram (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, different metal oxides were impregnated on the surface of ZSM-5 employed as photocatalysis for degradation of methylene blue dye used in the presence of ultraviolet light. The final products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) method. According to the proposed mechanism for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue based on these results, it was found that the reaction followed from the first-order mechanism. The results indicated that rate constant for pure ZSM-5 was 9.3〖 ₓ10〗^(-3) (min-1). Furthermore the impregnated ZSM-5 having 12% zinc oxide demonstrated the highest photocatalytic activity with rate constant...

Abstract
Auction is one of the most important and oldest institutions in economics, enabling resource allocation and trade of goods in the economy. Investigating the effects of changes in reservation price in auctions is an important question in auction theory research. In this study, focusing on a policy implemented by Yektanet, which involved altering the reservation price in auctions for advertising slots, we assessed its impact on advertiser costs. The implemented policy led to the activation of two distinct mechanisms, resulting in conflicting effects on the company's revenue. The first mechanism involved an increase in bid and intensified competition for ad placements on average, while the...

Mechanical Systems Using Nonlinear State Feedback
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Namvar, Mehrzad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Disturbance is one of the inseparable components of the mechanical systems which cannot be avoided. In these systems a number of inner and outer sources exist which are the cause of disturbance. Abrupt changes in torque, uncertainty in parameters, mechanical impulses and external forces on robot’s parts all can be mentioned as examples which introduce disturbance that affects the output of mechanical and robotic systems. Therefore, disturbance rejection is considered indispensable in robotic control systems. There are number of problems which are associated with disturbance rejection. In several methods, mostly optimization based methods, system fails to completely reject the disturbance and...
A Logical Model for “Certainty”
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ardeshir, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Epistemic logic gets its start with the recognition of the systematic properties of epistemic concepts. These properties make epistemic concepts amenable for formal study, and become our tools to present logical models for them.“Certainty” is one of these epistemic concepts for which no comprehensive logical model has been presented so far.
Among the logical models that have been presented for “Certainty”, there are two main models which are more comprehensive than the others and all the other models may be extendable to one of them. In this thesis, these two main logical models that have been proposed for the concept of certainty are introduced and described from a philosophical...

Value-Based Reserve Cost Allocation to Participants of Power Market Based on Secure Load Condition
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hosseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
There are a lot of methods for the settlement of the reserve power market which can ultimately lead to a pattern of consumption and generation for each of the participants of the power market. After this step, however, justified and logical methods should be utilized for paying the reserving costs to the participants as in a long-term it can optimize the economic conditions of the market which can result in getting more realistic bidding from the participants. The current methods used for paying the reserving costs are mostly locational marginal prices and pay-as bid approach. By the same token, for receiving the reserving costs from the customers, some consider the desired reliability level...
