Abstract
This letter presents a new approach to low-power, low-latency, and frequency-selective wake-up receivers. A novel architecture is introduced to achieve frequency domain selectivity, including analog techniques, that enable data detection without the need for power-hungry digital processing. A two-mode duty cycling is also utilized, which helps reduce the power consumption of the receiver significantly with negligible latency. A prototype of the proposed receiver is fabricated and verified in a 180-nm CMOS process. The fabricated chipset achieves a sensitivity of-84.9 dBm with 4.32-ms wake-up latency and drains an average current of 12.2 μ text A}. Interference tests show an outstanding...

Abstract
Wake-up receivers (WuRX) have recently played a prominent role in many applications, such as the Internet of Things (1oT), Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), and Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN). In such systems, relying on limited battery energy for their functionality, the main receiver cannot run continuously because of its high power consumption. In most state-of-the-art WuRXs, the focus is on power consumption and sensitivity. in applications operating in dense environments such as the 915MHz1SM band, considering the congested activity of numerous radios, in-band frequency selectivity becomes imperative as well. Few state-of-theart WuRXs achieve a somehow considerable in-band...
Selective Wake-Up Receiver for Dense Environment
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sharif Bakhtiar, Mehrdad (Supervisor)
Abstract
An ultra-low-power wake-up receiver is proposed, which reduces the power consumption significantly under the two-mode duty-cycling and with negligible latency. Due to the use of an accurate LO and high Q BB filters, the receiver shows a perfect selectivity in the frequency domain, and appropriately fits practical dense environment applications. In this receiver, four start frame bits (SFB) are received at the low data rate of 1 kbps in the MO mode, and after entering the ID mode, a long wake-up pattern is received at the high data rate of 100 kbps. Therefore, the latency is limited to the SFBs and is roughly 4 msec. The proposed wake-up receiver is designed and fabricated in TSMC 180 nm...
Maximizing Payoff in Competitive Facility Location
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Zarrabi Zadeh, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the competitive facility location problem, two service providers fight over winning consumers by establishing a series of well-located facilities on the line. The consumers seek their required services from the facility which is closest to them. The order in which service providers locate and build their facilities is as follows: the first service provider establishes k facilities after which the second service provider locates another k facilities and this goes on for m rounds. The payoff of each service provider equals the number of consumers that choose that provider’s facilities to seek service from. In this dissertation, we address different types of this problem and try to analyze...

Abstract
Synthesis and Investigation of Effect of Pr Doping on the Compound Y_(3-x) 〖Pr〗_x 〖Ba〗_5 〖Cu〗_8 O_(19-δ)-FInvestigation of doping of the parent compounds with different elements is important to understand the origin of high-Tc superconductivity. Several research groups have attempted to improve the properties of superconductivity and better understand the superconductivity mechanism of cuprate through doping different elements. In this research, at first, optimization of Y_3 〖Ba〗_5 〖Cu〗_8 O_(19-δ) F_z samples with z=0.2 ,0.4 ,0.6 ,0.8 ,1 ,2 ,3 ,4 have been done. By doping fluorine instead of oxygen, we expected an increase in the transition temperature, based on some the reports. But after...
Image Categorization Using Deep Learning
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jafari Siavoshani, Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
The representation of data influences the explanation factors of data variations. Thus, the success of learner algorithms depends on the data representation. Our main contribution in this thesis is learning of high level and abstract representation using deep structure. One of the fundamental examples of representation learning is the AutoEncoders. The auto-encoder is a rigid framework that doesn’t consider explanation factors in terms of statistical concepts. So, the auto-encoders can be re-interpreted by seeing the decoder as the statistical model of interest. The role of encoder is a mechanism for inference in the model described by the decoder. Our purpose is to design such model with...
Neural Synchrony of Spiking Local Neurons and Local Field Potential Activities in Primary Visual Cortex of Awake Monkeys
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jafari, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Lashgari, Reza (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Primary visual cortex plays a paramount role in processing visual information. Visual information after the primitive processing by LGN and Thalamus, will be sent to the primary visual cortex which is called V1 area. According to the fact that V1 neurons have the definitive sensitivity to the edge and contrast of visual stimuli so their behavior are very selective to the certain features, specially contrast, of visual stimuli. These neurons have different response behavior to contrast. In fact most of them have some nonlinear behavior to this feature. Normally we expect that response of them or spiking rate of them grow linearly by the contrast increases but in most many cases they have some...

Abstract
Valve leak detection is very important due to bad direct effects on parts life and engine power. Acoustic emission (AE) has a good known ability on leak detection between fault detection methods. The aim of this thesis is presenting the ability of AE method for valve leak detection in internal combustion engines. The research method in a general framework based on the idea that firstly some evaluations were done in static tests for leakage due to three faults including clearance, quasi-crack and notch. Then, the evaluations were continued with dynamic analysis of rotational speeds and different loads on the engine. Finally, the neural network approach was used to automatically detect all...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Jafari Siavoshani, Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Hi-C is a new technology invented to record the amount of interaction between all chromatin fragments. Chromatin interactions are manifestations of chromatin's 3D structure. It has been proved that different 3D structures of different cell types, despite having the same DNA, causes in different functionalities of cells. Therefore knowing chromatin structure, the factors affecting it and the way it affects cells' behaviors such as gene co-expression, sheds more light on the knowledge about cells and the methods that can change their fates. Finding the causes of diseases, designing more efficient drugs and progressing the conversion of different cell types into each other used for amending...
Gapless chiral excitons in thin films of topological insulators
, Article EPL ; Vol. 107, issue. 2 , 2014 ; ISSN: 02955075 ; Sharif University of Technology
2014
Abstract
In a nanoscopic thin film of a strong topological insulator (TI) the Coulomb interaction in the channel that exchanges the two electrons with the same chirality in two different planes of the slab takes advantage of the minus sign resulting from such "exchange" and gives rise to a bound state between the positive-energy states in one surface and the negative-energy states in the opposite surface. Therefore particle and hole pairs in the undoped Dirac cone of the TI thin film form an inter-surface spin-singlet state that lies below the continuum of free particle-hole pairs. This mode is similar to the excitons of semiconductors, albeit formed between the electron and hole pairs from two...
Collective excitations and the nature of Mott transition in undoped gapped graphene
, Article Journal of Physics Condensed Matter ; Volume 24, Issue 30 , 2012 ; 09538984 (ISSN) ; Sharif University of Technology
2012
Abstract
The particle-hole continuum (PHC) for massive Dirac fermions provides an unprecedented opportunity for the formation of two collective split-off states, one in the singlet and the other in the triplet (spin-1) channel, when the short-range interactions are added to the undoped system. Both states are close in energy and are separated from the continuum of free particle-hole excitations by an energy scale of the order of the gap parameter Δ. They both disperse linearly with two different velocities, reminiscent of spin-charge separation in Luttinger liquids. When the strength of Hubbard interactions is stronger than a critical value, the velocity of singlet excitation, which we interpret as a...
Nonlinear optical response in gapped graphene
, Article Journal of Physics Condensed Matter ; Volume 24, Issue 20 , 2012 ; 09538984 (ISSN) ; Sharif University of Technology
2012
Abstract
We present a formulation for the nonlinear optical response in gapped graphene, where the low-energy single-particle spectrum is modeled by massive Dirac theory. As a representative example of the formulation presented here, we obtain a closed form formula for the third harmonic generation in gapped graphene. It turns out that the covariant form of the low-energy theory gives rise to peculiar logarithmic singularities in the nonlinear optical spectra. The universal functional dependence of the response function on dimensionless quantities indicates that the optical nonlinearity can be largely enhanced by tuning the gap to smaller values
Exact phase boundaries and topological phase transitions of the XYZ spin chain
, Article Physical Review E ; Volume 96, Issue 1 , 2017 ; 24700045 (ISSN) ; Sharif University of Technology
2017
Abstract
Within the block spin renormalization group, we give a very simple derivation of the exact phase boundaries of the XYZ spin chain. First, we identify the Ising order along ◯ or ŷ as attractive renormalization group fixed points of the Kitaev chain. Then, in a global phase space composed of the anisotropy λ of the XY interaction and the coupling Δ of the Δσzσz interaction, we find that the above fixed points remain attractive in the two-dimesional parameter space. We therefore classify the gapped phases of the XYZ spin chain as: (1) either attracted to the Ising limit of the Kitaev-chain, which in turn is characterized by winding number ±1, depending on whether the Ising order parameter is...
Electric field assisted amplification of magnetic fields in tilted Dirac cone systems

Abstract
We show that the continuum limit of the tilted Dirac cone in materials such as 8-Pmmn borophene and layered organic conductor α-(BEDT-TTF)2I3 corresponds to deformation of the Minkowski space-time of Dirac materials. From its Killing vectors we construct an emergent tilted-Lorentz (t-Lorentz) symmetry group for such systems. As an example of the t-Lorentz transformations we obtain the exact solution of the Landau bands for a crossed configuration of electric and magnetic fields. For any given tilt parameter 0≤ζ<1, if the ratio χ=vFBz/Ey of the crossed magnetic and electric fields satisfies χ≥1+ζ, one can always find appropriate t-boosts in both valleys labeled by τ=±1 in such a way that the...

Abstract
Dirac cone can be tilted in condensed matter setting. As a result of tilt, the Lorentz symmetry is reduced to what we call tilted-Lorentz symmetry. In this paper, we derive the tilted-Lorentz transformations that leave a world with tilted Dirac cone invariant. © 2020, Isfahan University of Technology. All rights reserved

Optimizing Transmisson from Distant Wind Farms
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hosseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Wind power is site dependent and is by nature partially dispatchable. Furthermore, good wind sites are far from grid. Due to these problems, and along with the existing limitations in the transmission networks, a comprehensive analysis over an extended time is needed to properly explore all potential wind sites for wind capacity allocation. This problem is computationally expensive and decomposition methods are required to break down this problem. Here Benders decomposition approach is used, which is a popular technique for solving large-scale problems, to decompose the original problem into a master and a subproblem. The master problem is a linear problem, which allocates wind capacity to...
Analysis and simulation of ring resonator silicon electro-optic modulators based on PN junction in reverse bias
, Article Optical Engineering ; Vol. 53, issue. 12 , 2014 ; ISSN: 00913286 ; Akbari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
The theory of silicon optical modulators of ring resonators based on PN diode in reverse bias is primarily discussed. It secondarily provides a full-featured simulator to investigate the behavior of such modulators. Wave equation for ring structure will be solved by using the conformal transformation method and the matrix method as it was used to analyze bent planar optical waveguides. Power coupling between ring and straight waveguides will be calculated by coupled theory of nonparallel waveguides based on experimental results. The time response demonstrates the capability of this device to operate correctly at up to 10 Gbs-1 bitrate, and the frequency spectrum analysis of device shows a >...
