, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jalali, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Jahanbakht, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Token offerings, one of the new methods of financing in the blockchain industry, have provided startups with significant opportunities. In previous studies, most of the factors that determine the success of an initial offering have been examined, and operational performance has been less studied. In this study, the relationship between environmental, social, and corporate governance activities on operational performance and adoption has been presented. Previous studies have shown that more attention to environmental, social, and corporate issues leads to a higher amount of capital raised in the offering. We also address these issues among crowdfunding platforms, which attract more...

For comparinf the effect of these parameters, the soil settlement and bending moments is investigated in different parts of station while the lower tunnel is passing beneath it. The 3D Abaqus software is used for modeling this interaction. In...

Design, Analysis and Synthesis of Dual-Mode Waveguide Filter in Q Band

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jahanbakht, Mohammad Hosein (Author) ; Banai, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today in the most microwave and millimeterwave systems, one or more filters are used due to interference and noise phenomena. Microwave filters are manufactured in different environments such as waveguide, microstrip and SIW. For military and satellite applications that high power handling and low loss are in preference, the only appropriate environment is the waveguide. Other priority which is more important in satellite application is the low weight and small size of the product; Because of that, the idea of dual-mode waveguide filter was proposed in the early 70 decade. These kind of filters are able to produce two poles in one cavity resonator, which can decrease weight and size of the...

    Abstract
Recently, Needs for construction of rock structures and underground ones such as tunnels, dam foundations, power plants and caverns built to keep oil, gas and nuclear waste has increased dramatically. In order to design, construct and excavate these underground structures safely and economically, full understanding of rock mass properties, suitable tools and practical techniques of drilling are necessary. Because of existing this discontinuities, including joints and layered rock masses and their effects on mechanical behavior of rock mass, it is necessary for the geomechanical profile, shear strength and failure mechanism of rock mass to be accurately indentified. Shear strength criterions...

Computing all the Floquet eigenfunctions of oscillators using harmonic balance Jacobian matrices

    , Article IET Circuits, Devices and Systems ; Volume 5, Issue 4 , July , 2011 , Pages 257-266 ; 1751858X (ISSN) Jahanbakht, S ; Farzaneh, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Floquet eigenfunctions and Floquet exponents are encountered in stability and noise analysis of circuits operating at large signal periodic regime. It is analytically verified that the spectrum vectors of the left-hand and right-hand Floquet eigenfunctions and the Floquet exponents (Floquet eigenpairs) are members of the harmonic balance eigenvalues and eigenvectors (HB eigenpairs). The relationships between other HB eigenpairs with the Floquet eigenpairs are discussed. This discussion leads to a practical algorithm for computing the Floquet eigenpairs through HB eigenpairs. Furthermore, it is analytically verified that the main arguments of the study are consistent with the...

Computation of the phase and amplitude noise in microwave oscillators and a simplified calculation method for far enough from the carrier offsets

    , Article IET Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation ; Volume 4, Issue 12 , 2010 , Pages 2031-2041 ; 17518725 (ISSN) Jahanbakht, S ; Farzaneh, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
New results regarding phase and amplitude noise analysis in microwave oscillators for moderate offset frequencies from the carrier are presented. Although the phase noise process in an oscillator is a large signal non-stationary process, it is proved that for the purpose of phase noise calculations for moderate offset frequencies, the phase noise process can be considered as a small signal stationary process and by this assumption, a valid approximation of the phase noise spectrum at these offset frequencies is obtained. By this consideration, a simplified approach for the purpose of the phase and amplitude noise spectrum calculations, at far enough from the carrier offset frequencies, by...

Phase noise characterization of oscillators through Ito calculus

    , Article International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications ; Volume 43, Issue 11 , November , 2015 , Pages 1581-1596 ; 00989886 (ISSN) Jahanbakht, S ; Farzaneh, F ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Recent phase noise analysis techniques of oscillators mainly rely on solving a stochastic differential equation governing the phase noise process. This equation has been solved in the literature using a number of mathematical tools from probability theory like deriving the Fokker-Planck equation governing the phase noise probability density function. Here, a completely different approach for solving this equation in presence of white noise sources is introduced that is based on the Ito calculus for stochastic differential equations. Time-domain analytical expressions for the correlation of the noisy variables of the oscillator are derived that in asymptotically large times give the...

New Mathematical Methods for Oscillation and Nnoise Spectrum Analysis in Microwave Oscillators in the Time and Frequency Domains

    , Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Jahanbakht, Sajad (Author) ;
    Abstract
New mathematical approaches for noise and oscillation analysis of oscillators are presented. First a new approach for computing the phase noise spectrum of microwave oscillators at every offset frequency from the carrier is introduced. This method uses the harmonic balance formulation to obtain time domain functions used in the existing time domain phase noise analysis methods to compute the phase noise spectrum. In spite of the large signal nature of the phase noise in oscillators, it is analytically proved that for the purpose of phase noise calculations for moderate offset frequencies, the phase noise process can be considered as a small signal stationary process. By this consideration, a...

    , Article Journal of Network and Computer Applications ; Volume 32, Issue 5 , September , 2009 , Pages 1049–1063 Hariri, B. (Behnoosh) ; Shirmohammadi, Sh. (Shervin) ; Pakravan, M. R. (Mohammad Reza) ; Alavi, M. R. (Mohammad Hosein) ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
As massively multiuser virtual environments (MMVEs) expand in terms of size and user population, they tend toward using P2P architectures as a way to provide scalability without the need for large centralized resources. Distributed hash table (DHT)-based networks have been introduced as a promising option for overlay-based distributed massively multiuser virtual environment applications. However, overlay latency stretch seriously affects MMVE performance where QoS is crucial for real-time user collaboration. This work includes a series of efforts in the alleviation of such undesired latency. Our approach to latency mitigation consists of two phases. First, we propose a position-based ID...

Removal of Fluorine from radioactive solid waste of Esfahan Uranium Conversion Facility

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gerami, Vahid (Author) ; Samadfam, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Khanchi, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Gasemi, Hosein (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Uranium is the most important element in the nuclear fuel cycle. Recovery of uranium from waste produced at every stage of the fuel cycle is not only economically important, but also environmentally important. In the production phase of uranium hexafluoride, certain amount of solid waste is produced in the bottom of the fluorination reactor. In order to extract the uranium from this waste, we have to eliminate the fluorine contained in the waste. This is because the fluorine forms strong complex with uranyl ions during the extraction process, and prevents from efficient extraction of uranium. In the current thesis؛ first, we examined the characteristics of the waste ...

Prediction of the noise spectrum in optoelectronic oscillators: An analytical conversion matrix approach

    , Article Journal of the Optical Society of America B: Optical Physics ; Vol. 31, issue. 8 , August , 2014 , p. 1915-1925 ; ISSN: 07403224 Jahanbakht, S ; Hosseini, S. E ; Banai, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
In this paper an analytical formulation based on the conversion matrix approach for characterizing the oscillator noise spectra as well as the phase and amplitude noise spectra for a single-loop optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) is presented. The validity of this approach is verified by comparing our results regarding the noise spectra of the OEO against the results of two references in the literature. The first reference presents simulation results, and the second reference presents both simulation and measurement results, and good agreement is seen between the results of the new method and those of the references. The advantage of the new approach is the simplicity of the theory as well as...

    Know-how-first anti-intellectualism: Williamson against Williamson

    , Article Synthese ; Volume 200, Issue 4 , 2022 ; 00397857 (ISSN) Hosein, M ; Khalaj, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
Springer Science and Business Media B.V  2022
    Abstract
Inspired by Williamson’s knowledge-first epistemology, I propose a position on practical knowledge that can be called the ‘know-how-first view’; yet whereas Williamson is one of the pioneers of the new intellectualism about know-how, I employ the know-how-first view to argue against intellectualism and instead develop a know-how-first version of anti-intellectualism. Williamson argues that propositional knowledge is a sui generis unanalyzable mental state that comes first in the epistemic realm; in parallel, I propose that know-how is a sui generis unanalyzable power that comes first in the practical realm. To motivate this suggestion, I put forward two arguments: (1) drawing on...

An Investigation of a Fuzzy Transformation of Variables on the Robustness of Choice Models

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sherafatipour, Saeid (Author) ; Pourzahedi, Hosein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Estimation of demand, for example, for transportation is an important issue for the planning and programming of various systems. Thus, enhancing the predictability power of such models is of high value. Demand stems from choices of individuals, and choice is subject to uncertainty and fuzziness. Uncertainty comes from many factors including incomplete information of decision-maker, and fuzziness comes from many other factors including personal perception regarding the value of the variables affecting choice. This study tries to introduce a new approach in building choice models, in which variables are transformed into another variable by the help of a global wisdom. This wisdom shows the...

Text to Phoneme Transcription Capable to Detect Ezafe and Homographs for Persian Speech Synthesis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Oskouipour, Navid (Author) ; Sameti, Hosein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In Persian language, there are some special uncertainties and complexities regarding the extraction of phonemes due to its flexible structure. In this work, we try to solve two problems caused by this issue, homographs disambiguation and Ezafe recognition in Persian text to speech systems.
In this work, two methods are presented for solving the two problems. The first one is a pattern recognition method based on Aho-Corasick algorithm that has the best performance according to the execution time. The second method is a hidden Markov model tagger based on Viterbi algorithm that uses bigram and trigram statistics. These methods are run on 10 million word corpus and the results are compared...

Predictive and Nonlinear Control of Aircraft in Presence of Microburst Wind Shear

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Navid (Author) ; Pourtakdoust, Hosein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Airplanes usually experience minor position change and height loss during cruise flight, but under normal circumstances the aircraft total energy is adequately acceptable to maintain the trajectory and the desired performance without severe oscillations. On the other hand, if the airplane encounters a wind-shear or microburst during take-off or landing phases, it would be a dangerous situation, as the aircraft kinetic and potential energy levels are not as high.
In this research, a model predictive controller is designed and investigated to allow a transport category aircraft to either escape or penetrate the microburst. In this regard, initially a DMC controller is designed for 6-DoF...

Verifying the Empirical Validity of the Trilemma using U.S. Monetary Shocks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Mahtab (Author) ; Barakchian, Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Joshaghani, Hosein (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to the impossible trinity, countries can only enjoy from two of the following choices simultaneously: fixed exchange rate, free capital flow and independent monetary policy. A part of the economics literature has tried to verify the theory empirically. Some of the researches like Klein and Shambugh(2015) has concluded that the trilemma is valid on the occasion of transferring the effect of base countries interest rate changes to other countries. On the other side, a few papers like Ray(2013) has shown that an independent monetary policy can just be obtained by a closed capital flow and a float exchange rate system can not necessarily give central banks the autonomy of monetary...

    Abstract
In this paper we proposed a new real-time learning method. The engine of this method is a fuzzy-modeling technique which is called ink drop spread (IDS). IDS method has good convergence and is very simple and away from complex formula. The proposed method uses a reinforcement learning approach by an actor-critic system similar to Generalized Approximate Reasoning based Intelligent Control (GARIC) structure to adapt the IDS by delayed reinforcement signals. Our system uses Temporal Difference (TD) learning to model the behavior of useful actions of a control system. It is shown that the system can adapt itself, commencing with random actions. © 2008 IEEE
