Abstract
Prompt service restoration following faults has always been a concern to power distribution utilities. In this regard, optimal human resource allocation in post-fault service restoration can speed up field remedial actions which count for significant portion of service interruption duration. This thesis develops a fault management navigator that dispatches crews for field actions in a sequential service restoration until the network is restored to the normal state. The developed navigator effectively coordinates manual and remote switching actions as well as repair actions in the hope of achieving minimum service interruption cost. It tackles a real-time problem, periodically updating the...

Abstract
Sectionalizing switches are the main components of any restoration scheme in fault situations of power distribution systems. In this paper, customer outage costs reduction is aimed through the optimal simultaneous placement of manual and remote-controlled switches (RCSs). Network reconfigurations are constrained such that operational considerations like statutory ranges for voltage levels, lines' thermal capacities, and necessity of radial configuration be conserved. Total cost reduction is mathematically modeled in a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model that makes the global optimal solution accessible. The validity of the proposed model is evaluated on the IEEE 33-bus network. In...

Approximately, 85.4% of the injected dose was retained in the injection site 54 h after injection and most of the leaked radioactivity was accumulated in the blood, liver (0.5%) and lung (6.5%)
Technical Artifacts and Human Being: A Reflection on Verbeek’s Ideas
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari Takhtameshlou, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Technology, especially in recent centuries, has changed human form of life. Case studies show that there is a mutual relationship between human being and technology; Human is a technological being and technology is also a social entity. Therefore, trying to develop a conceptual framework to describe the important role of technical artifacts in our life can be regarded as a legitimate philosophical concern. Peter Paul Verbeek is one of the contemporary philosophers who take this concern seriously. He, by using the doctrines of The Empirical Turn in the philosophy of technology, has developed a lexical system, called post-phenomenology, to describe the role of Technology in human’s perception...

Abstract
The main propose of this research is providing a tool for suitable modeling, increase efficiency and decrease construction cost of solar absorption chiller. At first, the solar absorption chiller is modeled by the thermodynamic laws. Then, this model is converted to the new standard mathematical programming model with considering all technical and economic constrains. This mathematical model is optimized by Genetic algorithm (GA). After applying GA, optimized parameters of chiller heat exchanger designing and its electricity consumption are calculated. These parameters consist of heat exchanger effectiveness, heat transfer cross section area, heat transfer coefficient, efficiency of pump and...

Flow Toxicity Impacts on Liquidity and Intraday Factors in Iran Stock Market
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor) ; Talebiyan, Masoud (Supervisor)
Abstract
Toxic flow occurs when a trader with confidential information trades with a market maker without that information. The trade price is such that the market maker is obliged to provide the desired liquidity by taking the risk of loss for the order. The PIN (Probability of Informed Trading) is widely used to calculate the amount of toxic flow in a market and evaluate the market condition in terms of informed trading. However, Easley et al. (2012a) propose a new alternative method based on high-frequency data and daily orders called VPIN (Volume-Synchronized Probability of Informed Trading), and we apply it in the Iran stock market. This method can give the market makers the ability to predict...

Abstract
Penetration of distributed generation (DG) in distribution networks is rapidly increasing. DGs' application enhances system's reliability and power quality. However, along their benefits, there are some issues. One of the most important issues of DGs' application is the islanding. This paper presents a novel passive islanding detection scheme for synchronous DG based. In the proposed scheme, rate of change of exciter voltage over rate of change of reactive power at the DG-side (dE/dQDG) is taken into account. In reality, the voltage and reactive power of load depend on the exciter of the synchronous generator. Therefore, due to lack of inertia, response of these parameters to small changes...

Abstract
Utilization of nanoparticles in oil and gas industry has attracted considerable attention of engineers and researchers. In this article, the feasibility of nanoemulsion flooding is investigated as a method for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) through coreflooding experiments, using a packed bed and real reservoir fluids. Nine different mixtures of the solvent, surfactant, and nanoparticles in the form of a nanoemulsion phase are generated and used to recover the oil in the context of an EOR process. Various tests are conducted to determine the properties of porous medium and fluids. To study the production performance of this EOR technique, pressure drop across the packed bed are measured, along...

Abstract
In this study, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) embedded by folic acid (SPION-folate) were prepared by a modified co-precipitation method. The structure, size, morphology, magnetic property and relaxivity of the SPION-folate were characterized systematically by means of XRD, VSM, HRSEM and TEM and the interaction between folate and iron oxide (Fe3O 4) was characterized by FT-IR. The particle size was shown to be ≈5-10 nm. To ensure biocompatibility, the interaction of these SPION with mouse connective tissue cells (adhesive) was investigated using an MTT assay. Consequently, gallium-67 labeled nanoparticles ([67Ga]-SPION-folate) were prepared using 67Ga with a high labeling...

Feedback control of the neuro-musculoskeletal system in a forward dynamics simulation of stair locomotion [electronic resource]
, Article Proc. of IMechE Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine ; 2009, Vol. 223, No. 6, pp. 663-675 Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation ; Volume 11, Issue 1, 30 April 2014, Article number 78 ; Meghdari, Ali ; Vossough, Gholam Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
The aim of this study is to employ feedback control loops to provide a stable forward dynamics simulation of human movement under repeated position constraint conditions in the environment, particularly during stair climbing. A ten-degrees-of-freedom skeletal model containing 18 Hill-type musculotendon actuators per leg was employed to simulate the model in the sagittal plane. The postural tracking and obstacle avoidance were provided by the proportional—integral—derivative controller according to the modulation of the time rate change of the joint kinematics. The stability of the model was maintained by controlling the velocity of the body's centre of mass according to the desired centre of...
Design and Construction of a Soft Actuated Exoskeleton for Hand Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghafari, Ali (Supervisor) ; Meghdari, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
The main goal of this thesis is the design and development of a rehabilitation device for helping patients “to improve blood circulation” & retain and recover their abilities if possible that were lost during the stroke or a accident like that (my research in karaj/iran shows that it is possible by just movement of the specific body part). The focus is on hand in this thesis because Injuries to the hand are common and can be very debilitating since our hands are our primary means for interacting with our world. For rehabilitation in case of human hand there are several practices that should be done for patients either in home or in a rehabilitation center, time and money that is supposed to...

Abstract
In the past few decades, shaking tables are widely used to evaluate system response of structures under seismic excitations. These devices are used without any fundamental research performed on a shaking table system as an entity model. In most of these studies for simplicity, it is assumed that there exist no considerable vibration and displacement around the shaking tables, and no attention is paid to the peripheral substances such as soil settled under the foundation.
In this thesis, result of ambient vibration test on shaking table system (solid deck, concrete foundation and soil layer) has been presented. Precise sensors known as low frequency and high accuracy accelerometers have...
