, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the major issues raised in the numerical models is the effects of various input parameters on the model output. Identifying the most important parameters in the output is very important in petroleum engineering, especially in tuning equation of states and history matching. Screening the most important parameters from unimportant parameters is assessable by sensitivity analysis. In this study local and global sensitivity analysis methods are used to identify the most important parameters in tuning EOS for seven different fluid samples. Global sensitivity analysis methods are more successful in correct ranking of tuning parameters. Morris method as a global method can screen the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the most important issues in modeling and simulation of reservoirs is determination of different rock types or Rock Typing. In this study, after a brief review of some conventional methods for rock typing, their capabilities have been investigated. In this way, for the first time, pore network modeling is used as a tool for validating the rock typing methods. By using flow simulation in porous medium with pore network modeling approach, similar rock types data have been generated and these artificially data have been used for validating of rock typing methods. To form more realistic pore networks, both regular and irregular pore network have been modeled and analyzed. Pore size...
Study of ESP and Gas Lift Applications On low Productivity Wells of Alvand Oil Field
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Alavand Oil field is located 50 Km away from west of Siri Island and includes DPG and DPH platforms. The production from Alavand field started in 1998 and till now 11 wells have been totally drilled .Since a production peak in 2001, the oil production in Alvand field has decreased. Water cut is increasing and reservoir pressure is decreasing gradually. Considering poor reservoir characteristic of this reservoir, productivity indexes of wells are relatively low. In addition; natural depletion of reservoir caused the wells to be unable to flow naturally and either closed or produce periodically consequently. To increase production and extend the lifetime of Alvand field, it is decided to start...

Abstract
Matrix acidizing aims at bypassing near wellbore damages in typical carbonate reservoirs or enhancing permeability and hydraulic conductivity in naturally fracture ones. The simulation of acidizing process at pore scale and complex geometries by LBM will lead to gain more knowledge about molecular mechanisms that govern rock dissolution, diffusion and advection of reactive fluid and help the evaluation of acidizing efficiency. In this thesis, simulation of acidizing includes the following steps:
• Multicomponent fluid convection
• Fluid diffusion into the solid
• Fluid-rock reaction
• Boundary conditions including periodic, bounceback, non-equilibrium bounceback, Dirichlet,...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
The main responsibility of a primary cement job is to provide hydraulic isolation between various zones. Cement-sheath evaluation is concerned with the question of whether zonal isolation exists. Cement Evaluation Logs are used to evaluate the quality of cement sheath behind the casing or liner after cement job. these logs are a part of well integrity logs. Cement Evaluation Log results are complex and can be misunderstood, and it can lead to bad decisions that could have severe consequences. Cement evaluation logs must therefore be interpreted by experienced professionals. To help these interpreters, we propose a system for automatically interpreting cement evaluation logs, which they can...
Dynamic Modeling of Foam in under Balance Drilling Operation
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Underbalanced drilling is a type of drilling operation in which the pressure of the drilling fluid is less than the pressure of the formation. This pressure difference has created advantages for this method. Less formation damage, reduction of pipe stuck, increasing rate of penetration and production during drilling are the advantages of this method compared to traditional methods. To reduce the pressure of the drilling fluid, very low density fluids should be used. One way to reduce density is to mix a compressible fluid such as gas into water. Due to the difference in density and surface tensile strength of water and gas, these two phases do not combine, so a stable combination of these...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
The reduction of the effective permeability of the reservoir rock in the production area due to various factors is called formation damage. Formation damage is always one of the topics discussed in petroleum engineering. Among the primary and important cases that lead to damage to the formation are the filtration of drilling mud into the production area and the deposition of colloidal particles inside the porous rock during the drilling operation. The length of the productive zone in contact with the drilling fluid usually reaches several hundred feet in Iranian formations. In this study, the aim is to more accurately estimate the amount of permeability reduction caused by the penetration of...

Also, by studying and examining the data and the results obtained from the simulation of the horizontal well skin factor in a data...
Simulation of Drilling Fluid Invasion Containing Nano Clay Particles in Dual Porosity Carbonate Formations Using Pore Network Modeling
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Numerous environmental and industrial applications entail the movement of water and dissolved components like contaminants within aggregated porous media that are characterized by structural, fractured, or macropores in porous media. Over the last few decades, different macroscopic models based on processes have been employed to replicate the transport of contaminants in such environments. A considerable number of these models focus on simulating advective-dispersive transport across relatively extensive inter-aggregate pore domains, with the understanding that interactions within smaller intra-aggregate pores are governed by diffusion. The transfer of nanoparticles between the two domains...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shad, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
The concurrent flow of oil and water is a common occurrence in the field of multiphase flow in different fields including petroleum industry. In oil and gas, production engineers often face a situation in which more than one phase is flowing through the producers. In such conditions an accurate assessment of pressure loss inside the well plays a vital role in efficient and effective production planning. Changes in well orientation, wellbore diameter, reservoir and fluid properties as well as fluid flow rates are among parameters in which will affect the flow patterns that can occur inside a well during its life time. These flow patterns are created as a result of a competition between...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Shad, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Casing design is one of the most expensive parts in the drilling of oil wells, and any cost reduction with the basic design of these casing strings will significantly reduce the total cost of the operation. In recent years, occurring scenarios-based casing design has become popular; Because in many cases, it eliminates non-occurring scenarios such as gas kick and saves on drilling costs. In this study, we have tried to investigate all scenarios that may occur during the lifetime of the well, whether drilling or production, and for each well, based on its own field information, possible scenarios for each casing part are selected separately and the applying loads are calculated. For this...

Stress and Frictional Force Analysis of Core Jamming in Sarvak Formation (Bangestan Group)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the three fundamental methods in reservoir evaluation is coring, other two methods are logging and well test. Coring is an operation during which, samples from formation rock are taken, and used for laboratory tests and examinations. Although coring presents exact information from reservoir rock, its small scale is the reason of some laboratory errors. This operation is fulfilled with special bits. Coring importance shines where it could give us an idea of reservoir conditions; however cannot be develop it, to all of the reservoir. Coring is used to identify rock properties like porosity, permeability, wettability and fluid properties like fluid density or fluid saturation. Rock...

Abstract
Wax deposition is one of the main problems in the oil industry. The formation of wax deposition causes problems such as reducing the effective tube radius, increasing pressure, reducing the flow capacity and etc. Even crude oil waxes can block the pipeline due to deposition of wax during crude oil production and transportation operations. If wax deposition is well predicted and effective parameters are well known and studied, they can be useful in reducing the deposition of wax, and consequently its problems and wax deposition costs will be significantly reduced. In this research, wax deposition has been investigated in Underbalanced drilling by OLGA software. In the first part, by...
