    Integrated Drilling Oprations Optimization

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Azimi, Bizhan (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Drilling Operations constitute more than fifty percent of total costs of well construction operations. Due to this fact, optimization of drilling operations could have significant effect on decrease in total costs of well construction. It is mentioning worthy that there are a variety of parameters which affect drilling operations from the view point of optimization. In many cases several of those aforementioned parameters are contrary in nature. Thus obtaining an integrated approach to optimize the operation by considering these effects is necessity. The goal of this thesis is to investigate different influential parameters of drilling operation optimization and to develop computer-based...

Experimental Analysis of Injection and Reservoir Brine Compatibility to Prevent Scale Formation during Various Oil and Gas Production Processes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Motayeri, Roya (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Scale formation is an unpleasant phenomenon that occurs when the mixed fluids are incompatible. The scales damage the reservoir, wellbore and the surface facilities. They reduce the effective fluid path and increase the pressure drop of the system; so it is necessary to study the precipitation thermodynamics of scale formation, and present a trustable method for banning the scales from precipitation. In this project, it has been tried to study the value of precipitated scale due to the mixing of two incompatible waters (Civand and Sea Water). The results of which are compared with the results of a geochemical software named PHREEQC. Then, the performance of hydro chloridric acid as a scale...

Simulation of Drilling Fluid Movement Using Neural Network Modeling and Comparison with CFD Methods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ershadnia, Reza (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
We report on numerical and intelligent modeling of three-dimensional laminar flow of non-Newtonian fluids driven by axial pressure gradient in annular media consisting of a coaxially rotating inner cylinder. This is an example of a rotating Couette flow with vast applications in food, oil and gas, and chemical engineering industries. We study the dynamics of pressure in and the velocities (in three directions X, Y and Z) of every grid in presence of rotation and without that by means of CFD. Afterward, we develop a novel predictive model based on an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The hybrid ANN framework is trained and tested by over 100000 data which collected by CFD. We then perform...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaeian, Javad (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor) ; Jahanbakhshi, Saman (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
To achieve the highest amount of FOPT during reservoir life and the most net present value, the parameters that are effective in the production of the field are adjusted to be the best performance. In order to achieve these conditions, the reservoir model and the surface will be checked integrated so that the optimal mode of each parameter is determined in interaction with other parameters, so the first integrated model of the reservoir and the surface and then optimizing the target functions of cumulative production and the net present value is performed using the genetic algorithm.Since the number of parameters of reservoir model and surface in the studied field in this study is high,...

Investigation The Effect Of Wettability Alteration On Increasing Recovery Factor At Fractured Reservoirs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Chahardahcherik, Morteza (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor) ; Masihi, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
There are a lot of Fractured reservoirs around the world that have large portion of oil production. These reservoirs have complex structure and fractures have important role in production but the remaining oil in matrix causes that the oil recovery decreases. One of the most important factors in these reservois are wettability. Because most of the fractured reservoirs are oil wet and water injection process in these reservoirs are not effective and chemical EOR methods such as surfactant flooding method is used. Surfactant improve oil recovery by two reasons: 1- reduction of interfacial tension between oil and water . 2-Wettability alteration of matrix. The porpose of this project is...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Golzari, Aliakbar (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor) ; Badakhshan, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
By far, the most expensive part of the production optimization process is the evaluation of the objective function because this requires computationally expensive reservoir simulations to be performed. One way to reduce this high computational cost isby using surrogates or proxies for the reservoir simulator. There are different methods for constructing a surrogate that their aims are mimicking the reservoir behavior with high accuracy and low computational cost. In reservoir engineering surrogate modeling has been used for the problem of well placement optimization, while in the context of production optimization it has not yet been investigated in the literature. Moreover, most of surrogate...

    Abstract
Determining the parameters of the porous media and fractures in order to properly understand the processes governing these environments is very important. Traditionally, these parameters are determined in the laboratory. In recent years, with the advancement of computational capabilities, numerical methods have been considered to determine the parameters of the porous media. In the last few decades, the lattice Boltzmann method has been considered by the researchers as a class of computational fluid dynamic methods for simulating fluid flow. The advantages of the lattice Boltzmann method include simplicity in applying to complex media and the ability to simulate different phenomena. In this...

Underbalanced Drilling Hydraulics Modeling and Optimization

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Mehdi (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor) ; Pishvaie, Mahmoud Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Due to the underbalanced drilling advantages compared to the overbalanced drilling, this drilling method usage is on rise day to day. In this method, the well pressure has to be lower than formation pressure. To achieve this goal, we have to use light fluids such as air, foam, aerated mud, etc. Because of the compressible nature of these fluids, their hydraulics calculation is more complicated than overbalanced drilling fluids. Due to this complexity, a simulator which can predict and optimize the well conditions is very important in designing drilling schedule. In this thesis, by combination of different rheology and pressure drop equations for the foam, a simulator is developed to model...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moravveji, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor) ; Soltanieh, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The consumption of fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal) increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that cause increase of earth atmosphere temperature and lots of environmental problems. Using appropriate alternative energy sources is one way to control this emission, while considering energy infrastructures shows this is a far solution. An early way for decreasing the emission of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is injection of CO2 in geological formations. Since approximately 50 years ago some researches in this area have been developing. The most important limit of these projects is its costs so it is wise to combine them with gas injection projects in gas and oil...

Modeling of Ultrasonic Effect on Stimulation of Production well

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khorram, Akbar (Author) ; Ramazani Sa’adat Abadi, Ahmad (Supervisor) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Near wellbore formation damage is caused additional pressure drop around the wellbore and therefore decreased the oil or gas productivity of the well. The usual methods for removal of these damages are acidizing and hydraulic fracturing which have operational limitations in addition to high costs. Thus the researchers are motivated to find new methods and technologies specially the use of mechanical waves for well stimulation purposes.Ultrasonic waves have been extensively used in many industrial applications including clean devices, pipes and vessels. A clear extension of this usage is the removal of wellbore contaminants by exposing it to high-power ultrasonic waves. Although several...

Wel Test Analysis Using Deconvolution Method in Naturally Fractured
    Reservoirs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani, Payam (Author) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Shadizadeh, Seyed Reza (Supervisor) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Wellbore storage effect is one of the biggest problems of petroleum engineers in analyzing the reservoir properties. In this phenomenon, at the beginning time of production from a reservoir, the fluid is initially produced from the well and not from the reservoir. Due to this effect, the pressures are distorted and could not be used in reservoir analysis. In this thesis the wellbore storage effect would be removed in naturally fractured reservoirs using deconvolution method. Using this method the range of data used could be increased. In this method special techniques are used in order to determine reservoir behaviour.
Using the method presented in this thesis, petroleum engineers could...

    Crypted Traffic Classification

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saeid Shahrab (Author) ; Jalili, Rasool (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A traffic classifier maps each input stream into a pre-defined traffic class. If the traffic is encrypted using a protocol, such as SSL, or is protected using an encrypted tunnel, it's content would be hidden from the classifier, in which case the common traffic classification methods will be ineffective. Although common security mechanisms which provide information confidentiality to user can't hide all properties of messages, including length and time. Some of the newly presented methods of traffic classification utilize these properties and can actually classify messages without accessing their content. We will study such methods and their limitations in this thesis. Of all the encrypted...

Automatic Concept Extraction to Improve the Recognition Performance for Sequential Patterns

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Halavati, Ramin (Author) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation, we introduced a Fuzzy based representation and comparison method for sequential patterns such as speech and online handwriting. The new model, called Fuzzy Elastic Matching Machine (FEMM), is simpler than traditional HMM based approaches and is not based on the common statistical assumptions of HMM systems. The model was tested on isolated word and phoneme recognition tasks in speech recognition domain and isolated letter recognition in Persian handwriting recognition. We showed that this method is faster than traditional HMM based models and more robust to noise. To train the model, we introduced a Symbiogenesis-based evolutionary training algorithm. This algorithm...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Spehrband, Poria (Author) ; Seif, Mohammad Saeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, unmanned vehicles have intensively been developed to reduce human dangers for marine applications. Predicting the hydrodynamic coefficients of an autonomous underwater vehicle is important during the vehicle’s design phase. In other words to design an AUV, one must clarify its maneuverability and controllability based on a mathematical model. The mathematical model contains various hydrodynamic forces and moments expressed collectively in terms of hydrodynamic coefficients. Therefore, the correct values of the coefficients must be known to precisely design the controller of AUVs.SUT-2 is an AUV, being developed by Marine Engineering Laboratory of Sharif University of...

Thermal Fatigue Investigation of Different Geometrical Aspect of via in Integrated Circuits

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Behnoud (Author) ; Adib Nazari, Saeid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The reliability of integrated circuits (IC) is related to material imperfections such as holes, cavities, cracks and etc. which occur in the manufacturing process. The operational conditions of IC create thermal stresses. These thermal stresses increase the chance of failure by making the imperfections critical in IC’s components such as VIA that is used as connection between interconnects in the multilevel integrated circuits. As a result, thermal fatigue needs to be investigated in VIA thoroughly.
The thermal stresses in VIA increase the possibility of hole forming due to hydrostatic stresses during manufacturing process and the amplitude of applied stresses under the operational...
