A priority of Logic
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nasrin, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Hartry Field argues that meaning-besed approaches to explaining the apriority of certain propositions fail to succeed in their endeavour. He suggests that adoting what one cals a non-factualist view of justification itself removes the mystery of the apriority of such propositions, and sketches what such a view of justification involves. A priori justification is often thought mysterious or out of keeping with a naturalistic view of the world; strong forms of priori justification that involve empirical indefeasibility are often thought especially mysterious. While this is no doubt correct for excessive claims of a priority – for instance, claims to prori acces to features of the physical...

A new homologous series of linear aliphatic unsaturated hydroxypolyesters a polyol soft segments for polyurethanes: Synthesis and characterization [electronic resource]
, Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 68, Issue 2, pages 173–183, 11 April 1998 ; Rezai, Nasrin ; Zohurian, M. J ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Synthesis and characterization of a new series of low molecular weight (MW = 500–3000) OH-terminated linear aliphatic unsaturated polyesters based on cis-2-butene-1,4-diol and oxalic to sebacic acid were investigated. Direct polycondensation and transesterification methods were used for the syntheses. The latter was recognized to be the preferable method due to its lower reaction temperature and time, lower diol/diacid ratio, absence of decarboxylation, and formation of a product with low polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.3–2.7). Elemental analysis, GPC, FTIR, 1H-NMR, DSC, and WAXD were used for the investigations. A segmented polyurethane based on poly (cis-2-butylene adipate) glycol was also...
Semantic Externalist Answers to Epistemic Skepticism
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nasrin, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
As Davidson says, "Rorty sees the history of Western philosophy as a confused and victorless battle between unintelligible skepticism and lame attempts to answer it." Therefore we can say that the core issue of Epistemology, in various ages of history of philosophy, is the problem of skepticism. Semantic externalism according to some contemporary philosophers, like Hilary Putnam, Anthony Brueckner and Donald Davidson, gives various answers to skeptical arguments. On the other hand, skepticism also can be a challenge for semantic externalism. In this thesis, I have attempted to draw a scheme to clarify the status of these issues with regard to each other
Soft Error Rate Estimation in Presence of Multiple Event Transients (METs)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Miremadi, Ghasem (Supervisor)
Abstract
With continuous device down-scaling and increase in transistor counts on a chip, complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology has become extremely sensitive to soft errors. Soft errors are transient errors caused by energetic particles such as neutrons and alpha particles. An essential step to design a soft error tolerant digital system with minimal performance and power overheads is Soft Error Rate (SER) estimation of system components. Until recently, Single Event Upsets (SEUs) in latches and Filp-Flops (FFs) and Single Event Transients (SETs) in combinational logic parts of digital circuits were regarded as the main effects of particle strikes. However, with the emerging...
Persian Paraphrases Recognition Using Meaning Representation
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Izadi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Paraphrases are sentences or phrases, which convey the same meaning using different words. There are different definitions for paraphrasing and most linguists believe that, paraphrases approximately equivalent in meaning. Paraphrase recognition is useful in different natural language processing areas such as question answering, information extraction, plagiarism recognition and machine translation. In this thesis, the purpose is to present a method for paraphrase recognition, using deep semantic analysis and meaning representation of sentences. To achieve this purpose first, meaning features were defined for every syntactic category and semantic analysis of sentences alongside mapping of...
Representationalism, Inverted Earth, and Swampman
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Masrour, Farid (Supervisor) ; Nasrin, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
My dissertation includes four chapters; three introductory chapters and a final conclusion. The first chpter is a comprehensive introduction to the problem of consciousness. The next chapter is allocated to representationalism, especially Michael Tye's PANIC theory, as a solution to the hard problem of consciousness and related phenomena. The third chapter is a brife look at causal theories of mental content. And the last chapter contains my arguments agaisnt Tye's theory. Apparently, mental states are of two categories; some mental states have representational content and some other have phenomenal aspect; there is something it is like to undergo latter states. Representationalism holds...

Abstract
Implementation of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) in the separation science has attracted many researchers attention. In this study, the role of metal, ligand, the reaction condition and modification on the extraction efficiency of some MOFs was investigated. Among the prevalent reported MOFs, some members of the MIL and MOF–5 families were chosen, and eleven MOF–based sorbents were prepared by changing the metal and ligand type, reaction condition, and/or functionality through post synthetic modification (PSM). MIL–101 and MIL–101–NH2 based structures were initially synthesized based on the chromium and iron salts. Also, three zinc–based structures including MOF–5, [NH2(CH3)2]2...

Abstract
Here, a three dimensional nickel–based metal organic framework (MOF) was synthesized via solvothermal and room temperature protocols. In order to study the effects of the synthesis conditions on the physical properties such as pore sizes and shapes of the prepared MOFs, their extraction capabilities were examined. Both MOFs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller and thermogravimetric analyses. Brilliant properties such as porous structure, high surface area and considerable thermal stability make them reasonable candidates to be employed as efficient extractive phases. The efficiency of the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recently in civil engineering prestressed concrete slab applications is increasing, and typically results in overall economy and provides satisfactory structural performance. In The present work, two-way prestressed concrete slabs have been considered and during designing process with the ACI-2005 code and due to economic plan, prestressed slabs were studied in transfer, service and final conditions. ACI code insists that two-way prestressed slabs shall be classified as class U (without cracking) that means section must be untracked in all conditions (code reference 18.3.3). In addition, two-way prestressed slabs must be prestressed in both directions for 100% of load, and this means that...
Properties of Radiation Induced LDPE/EVA Nanocomposits
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor) ; Sheikh, Nasrin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Polyethylene (PE) is used as an insulation material for wires and cables because of its excellent electrical properties. For such application, it can be exposed to the high energy irradiation such as gamma ray and electron beam (EB), making possible crosslinking of the PE. Most of the properties of PE are improved greatly after irradiation, but it was harden and split easily. Due to the flexibility of EVA, depending on the vinyl acetate content, it can improve the toughness of the LDPE significantly upon addition to this polymer. As a result, radiation induced LDPE/EVA blend has been a good candidate for the wire and cable insulation. Also, upon addition of a few amount of OC, different...

Abstract
The present work is a numerical investigation into the waves generated by a pressure source moving in straight channels with a nonrectangular cross-channel depth profile. Wave fields generated by the moving pressure source are described, and the effects of channel bathymetry on the generated wave characteristics of wave height, wave-breaking location, wave-breaking type and intensity, and peel angle are presented. Four different channel cross-section shapes were investigated, and the results were analyzed. It was concluded that the maximum wave height depended primarily on pressure-source parameters and that the investigated channel shapes did not have a significant effect on the maximum...

Abstract
Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes are 3D nanoscaled materials with large potential in solid phase microextraction (SPME). Here, as a case study, an octaglycidyldimethylsilyl modified polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane network is described. It was deposited on a stainless steel wire via a sol–gel method and used as a fiber coating for SPME of aromatic compounds. The uniform pore structure, high surface area, and hydrophobicity of the network make it susceptible toward isolation of non-polar and semi-polar chemical compounds. The performance of the fiber coating was tested with three classes of environmental pollutants, viz. chlorobenzenes (CBs), benzenes (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,...
