, Article Eurasip Journal on Advances in Signal Processing ; Volume 2012, Issue 1 , 2012 ; 16876172 (ISSN) ; Ghorbani, M ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this article, we present a new iterative algorithm aimed at improving the performance of the sigma-delta analog to digital (A/D) converter. We subject the existing sigma-delta modulator, without changing the configuration, to an iterative procedure to increase the signal-to-noise ratio of the reconstructed signal. In other words, we demonstrate that sigma-delta modulated signals can be decoded using the iterative algorithm. Simulation results confirm that the proposed method works very well, even when less complex filters are used. The simple and regular structure of this new A/D converter, not only makes realization of the hardware as ASIC or on FPGA boards easy, but also allows it to...
Performance improvement of an optimal family of exponentially accurate sigma delta modulator
, Article International Conference on Signal Processing Proceedings, ICSP, 24 October 2010 through 28 October 2010, Beijing ; 2010 , Pages 1-4 ; 9781424458981 (ISBN) ; Beygiharchegani, S ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this paper a new iterative method is used to convert analog signals to digital (A/D) using sigma delta modulator (SDM). If intelligent reconstruction technique is used for decoding, either signals with higher bandwidth can be digitized or simpler circuitry can be utilized. An optimal family of SDM has recently been devised in order to improve performance of A/D converters. In this work, we improve performance of A/D converters even more, by combining this optimal family of SDM with iterative methods
Assessing the Injury Severity of Urban Bus Crashes Toward More Sustainable Cities: A Case Study of Isfahan, Iran
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kermanshah, Amir Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
Traffic accidents around the world kill a large number of people every year, and their lightest consequences are temporary disabilities for citizens. According to the statistics, the number and severity of accidents have been growing, due to the expansion of cities and the human population there, and this increases the need to pay attention to traffic safety. One of the substantial subcategories of traffic safety research is public transportation. However, limited studies have been done in this field. One of the main modes of public transportation are buses, which bring more risk of accidents to passengers, due to their size and higher passenger capacity compared to passenger vehicles....
CO2 measurement of synthetic biogas by passing it through dilute NaOH solution
, Article Iranian Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering ; Volume 39, Issue 3 , 2020 , Pages 107-116 ; Shayegan, J ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
The feasibility of measuring CO2 content in biogas was evaluated in this research. Firstly, Curtipot pH simulator was used to visualize the titration behaviors of various percentages of dissolved CO2 in a wide range of concentration of NaOH solution. As a general output of those simulations, it was shown that when the titration curves of different CO2 content samples are separated enough, titration can provided precise information about the value of dissolved CO2. In addition, when the ratio of molar concentration of NaOH to the molar concentration of CO2 is in the range of 1 to 2(equivalent to stoichiometric ratio of bi-carbonate and carbonat), the separability of the curves is enough...
Experimental and Numerical Analysis to Optimize an Existing Rotating Detonation Combustion Chamber
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
By creating constant volume combustion, the rotating detonation chamber increases efficiency compared to conventional constant pressure chambers. The RDC is smaller and mechanically more straightforward than the other detonation chambers, such as the pulse chamber. In the current research, an RDC with an outer diameter of 76 mm and an inner diameter of 64 mm, using hydrogen and air as fuel and oxidizer, has been successfully tested and data collected in the laboratory. Data acquisition has been made by high-frequency and pressure measurement facilities. In the following, the chamber has been optimized and improved by applying parametric studies (equivalence ratio, mass flow rate, channel...
Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion of Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shaygan Salek, Jalaloddin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Due to the large portion of organic fraction of municipal solid wastes in Iran, the needing for stabilization and treatment of this waste is obvious. An appropriate method for treatment of these wastes is anaerobic digestion. By skimming through open literature which are investigated about anaerobic bioreactors, declared that despite the benefits of thermophilic bioreactors over mesophilic ones, (more destruction of pathogens, more removal of volatile solids, more production of biogas and greater resilient to organic loading rate shocks) but because of more difficulties in controlling of thermophilic bioreactors, most studies have been done in mesophilic state. This motivated us to a deeper...
New rectangular partitioning methods for lossless binary image compression
, Article International Conference on Signal Processing Proceedings, ICSP, 24 October 2010 through 28 October 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 694-697 ; 9781424458981 (ISBN) ; Hosseini, H ; Beygiharchegani, S ; Pad, P ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this paper, we propose two lossless compression techniques that represent a two dimensional Run-length Coding which can achieve high compression ratio. This method works by partitioning the block regions of the input image into rectangles instead of working by runs of adjacent pixels, so it is found to be more efficient than 1D RLE Run-length Coding for transmitting texts and image. In the first method, length and width of consecutive black and white rectangles are transmitted. The idea of this method is new and it can be very effective for some images which have large blocks of black or white pixels. But in the second method only black rectangles are considered in order to transmit and...
Searches for New Physics with Opposite-Sign Di-Leptons(Using the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider)
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Arfaei, Hessamaddin (Supervisor) ; Pape, Luc ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
Abstract
Among the proposals for new physics, Supersymmetry is the most popular to gradually appear at a yet unreached center-of-mass energy at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, that doesn’t seem very likely. This thesis represents a search for any evidence of a minimal supergravity inspired scenario (mSUGRA) of R-parity conserving supersymmetry at the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment. The analysis employs an event topology , which consists primarily of opposite-sign di-leptons accompanied by hadronic jets and missing transverse energy. The search utilizes data produced by the proton-proton collision of the LHC at a center-of-mass energy p s = 7 TeV and recorded by the CMS detector in...
Simulation of Mass Transfer from Droplet in a Two Phase Liquid-liquid Extraction System
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Afshin, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Firoozabadi, Bahar (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Mass transfer of a drop moving in a bulk fluid is an interesting subject which has attracted a lot of attention. Understanding effective parameters in this process would be helpful in order to increase the efficiency of the industrial processes related to mass transfer. In this research, the deformation and mas transfer of a moving drop was studied numerically. Navier-Stokes equations and concentration equation were solved separately with a VOF method in an axisymmetric domain using Fluent software. Comparision between numerical results and former experimental results proves the accuracy of the modelling in both fields of deformation and mass transfer. Moreover, effects of the physical...
A Probabilistic Numerical Method for Fully Non-Linear Parabilic PDEs
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Touzi, Neyzar (Supervisor) ; Zohuri Zangeneh, Bijan (Supervisor)
Abstract
e solution for fully non-linear equations do not exists in general and for this reason the notion of viscosity solutions has been defined in this context. In this dissertation, a Monte carlo method is introduced for parabolic fully non-linear together with its asymptotics. In the proof of convergence, the method of [6] is used. en the rate of convergence from both sides is introduced: Finally, the error due to estimation of conditional expectation is derived for the estimation whose error is known with respect to sample size
Design and Implementation of Cyber-Phyical Network (Smart Building) using Machine Learning
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor) ; Farhadi, Alireza (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Because of the increasing use of distributed computing and edge computing patterns, broadcast communications are becoming increasingly important. This communication should be such that each node can deliver its information to all or part of the network nodes. The quantity of delay should be small enough to not disturb the rest of the control processes.

Abstract
Thermal conductivity of nanofluids plays key rol in heat transfer capacity of fluids. adding nanoparticles to a base fluid can lead to enhancement in thermal conductivty ratio. CuO/Ethyle Glycol (EG) is one of the most applicable nanofluids for heat transfer purposes. In the present study, thermal conductivty ratio of CuO/EG nanofluid is modeled by applying Group Method of Data Hnadling and Least Square Support Vector Machine – Gentic Algorithm approaches. Results indicated that the utilized model are very accurate in predicting thermal conductivty ratio of the nanofluid. The R-squared values for the proposed model are equal to 0.994 and 0.991 by applying Group Method of Data Handling and...

Abstract
A readout box prototype for the CMS Hadron Forward calorimeter upgrade was built and tested in the CERN H2 beamline. The prototype was designed to enable simultaneous tests of different readout options for the four anode upgrade PMTs, new front-end electronics design and new cabling. The response of the PMTs with different readout options was uniform and the background response was minimal. Multi-channel readout options further enhanced the background elimination. Passing all the electronic, mechanical and physics tests, the readout box proved to be capable of providing the forward hadron calorimeter operational requirements in the upgrade era

Abstract
The invariance of the standard model (SM) under the CPT transformation predicts equality of particle and antiparticle masses. This prediction is tested by measuring the mass difference between the top quark and antiquark (Δmt=mt−mt‾) that are produced in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, using events with a muon or an electron and at least four jets in the final state. The analysis is based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb−1collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, and yields a value of Δmt=−0.15±0.19(stat)±0.09(syst) GeV, which is consistent with the SM expectation. This result is significantly more precise than previously reported...
