, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kardani Moghaddam, Sara (Author) ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Computational grids enabling resource sharing and coordination are now one of the common and acceptable technologies used for solving computational intensive applications rising in scientific and industrial problems. Nevertheless, due to the heterogeneity, dynamicity and autonomy of the grid resources, task scheduling within these systems has become a challenging research area. Applying the market model to the grids is a good approach which can easily take the dynamic characteristics of the grid resources into account and simplify the scheduling problem considering user-centric factors. In this thesis a two level market-based model for task scheduling problem in grid environment is presented....

    Abstract
This paper addresses scheduling problem of independent tasks in the market-based grid environment. In market-based grids, resource providers can charge users based on the amount of resource requested by them. In this case, scheduling algorithms should consider users' willingness to execute their applications in most economical manner. As a solution to this problem, a hybrid genetic algorithm and variable neighborhood search is presented to reduce overall cost of task executions without noticeable increment in system makespan. Simulation results show that our algorithm performs much better than other algorithms in terms of cost of task executions. Considering the negative correlation between...

    Abstract
In this paper a new least mean square (LMS) based adaptive weighting algorithm is proposed. It is appropriate for antenna array systems with moving targets and mobile applications. The essential goal of this algorithm is to reduce the complexity of weighting process and to decrease the time needed for adjusting the antenna radiation pattern. The main lobe of antenna will be adjusted in the direction of desired signal (main signal) and nulls pointed in the direction of undesired signals (interference signals). By predicting the relative velocity of source, the next location of the source will be estimated and the array weights will be determined using LMS algorithm before arriving to the new...

    Transverse resistance of masonry infills

    , Article ACI Structural Journal ; Volume 107, Issue 4 , 2010 , Pages 461-467 ; 08893241 (ISSN) Moghaddam, H ; Goudarzi, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In this paper, a confined infill panel previously experimented under out-of-plane loading is modeled and analyzed by the dynamic explicit method (DEM). This method is shown to have a good estimation of the experimental results, and is thus adopted to investigate the out-of-plane behavior of an infill model. Based on the analytical results, the stress distribution of an infill panel prior to and after cracking, and the effect of an arching mechanism on post-cracking behavior, is studied. A semi-empirical relationship is accordingly developed for predicting the transverse resistance of masonry infills due to one-way arching action, which accounts for the effects of the boundary frame...

    Robust simulation optimization using φ-divergence

    , Article International Journal of Industrial Engineering Computations ; Volume 7, Issue 4 , 2016 , Pages 517-534 ; 19232926 (ISSN) Moghaddam, S ; Mahlooji, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Growing Science  2016
    Abstract
We introduce a new robust simulation optimization method in which the probability of occurrence of uncertain parameters is considered. It is assumed that the probability distributions are unknown but historical data are on hand and using φ-divergence functionality the uncertainty region for the uncertain probability vector is defined. We propose two approaches to formulate the robust counterpart problem for the objective function estimated by Kriging. The first method is a minimax problem and the second method is based on the chance constraint definition. To illustrate the methods and assess their performance, numerical experiments are conducted. Results show that the second method obtains...

A new metamodel-based method for solving semi-expensive simulation optimization problems

    , Article Communications in Statistics: Simulation and Computation ; Volume 46, Issue 6 , 2017 , Pages 4795-4811 ; 03610918 (ISSN) Moghaddam, S ; Mahlooji, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Taylor and Francis Inc  2017
    Abstract
In this article, a new algorithm for rather expensive simulation problems is presented, which consists of two phases. In the first phase, as a model-based algorithm, the simulation output is used directly in the optimization stage. In the second phase, the simulation model is replaced by a valid metamodel. In addition, a new optimization algorithm is presented. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, it is applied to the (s,S) inventory problem as well as to five test functions. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm leads to better solutions with less computational time than the corresponding metamodel-based algorithm. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

    Abstract
There are many steel structures in Iran with semi-rigid saddle connections. It has been observed that, during a strong earthquake, this type of connection can experience a premature fracture, which will endanger the stability of the structure. The present study endeavored to improve the mechanical characteristics including the initial stiffness, yield moment, maximum moment, crack rotation, and load transfer mechanisms of the conventional saddle connections using retrofitting methods. An experimental study was conducted on six full-scale specimens to study the effect of the retrofitting methods on the stiffness, yield moment, and maximum moment of the connection and for the prevention of...

An investigation on the accuracy of pushover analysis for estimating the seismic deformation of braced steel frames

    , Article Journal of Constructional Steel Research ; Volume 62, Issue 4 , 2006 , Pages 343-351 ; 0143974X (ISSN) Moghaddam, H ; Hajirasouliha, I ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier BV  2006
    Abstract
This paper investigates the potentialities of the pushover analysis to estimate the seismic deformation demands of concentrically braced steel frames. Reliability of the pushover analysis has been verified by conducting nonlinear dynamic analysis on 5, 10 and 15 story frames subjected to 15 synthetic earthquake records representing a design spectrum. It is shown that pushover analysis with predetermined lateral load pattern provides questionable estimates of inter-story drift. To overcome this inadequacy, a simplified analytical model for seismic response prediction of concentrically braced frames is proposed. In this approach, a multistory frame is reduced to an equivalent shear-building...
