Hydrodynamic Modeling and Control of SWATH Vessel

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zare, Arman (Author) ; Sayyadi, Hassan (Supervisor) ; Karimi, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the key issues in the design of vessels is their proper stability and performance in waves. Therefore, the use of twin-hull vessel designs such as conventional catamaran and SWATH is suitable for improving stability and seakeeping quality. Although SWATH has a better seakeeping quality than a conventional catamaran, it has been observed that at high forward speeds, especially in head waves, the vertical motions of the vessel is greatly enhanced. Various methods such as correction of the hull form and the use of fin stabilizers can be used to modify SWATH vessel motion behavior. These control surfaces can respond appropriately to the dynamic forces from the waves, reducing the motions...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Heidary, Mohammad Saeed (Author) ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor) ; Karimi, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The construction is classified as a high-risk industry. The number of casualties and fatalities in this industry is disproportionately high. The ability to recognize hazards in the construction process and the design stage is still in its early stages of development. The most important way to control and eliminate hazards and accidents is to analyze these hazards before they occur and plan to deal with them before starting project activities. Identifying safety risks is the first step in evaluating and analyzing these risks. Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, due to the consideration of the relationship between the elements in the model and because it contains an object-oriented...

Harmonic Modelling of Residential Loads and Their Effects on Distribution Network

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Elham (Author) ; Mokhtari, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, there has been an increasing concern about harmonic distortion and the effects of harmonics on power systems. Nonlinear loads such as electronic power supplies, battery chargers, motor drives, UPS systems and … are the primary source of harmonic currents. Harmonic currents generated by nonlinear loads flow from the load into the power system due to the network low path of impedance Harmonic currents cause additional heat and losses in power system components and results in voltage distortion as well.To deal with the problems associated with harmonics and to reduce their effects on power networks, study of the effects of non-linear loads on distribution networks is essential....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Ali (Author) ; Semati, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Large data sources labeled by experts at cost are essential for deep learning success in various domains. But, when labeling is expensive and labeled data is scarce, deep learning generally does not perform well. The goal of semi-supervised learning is to leverage abundant unlabeled data that one can easily collect. New semi-supervised algorithms based on data augmentation techniques have reached new advances in this field. In this work, by studying different textual augmentation techniques, a new approach is proposed that can obtain effective information signals from unlabeled data. The method encourages the model to generate the same representation vectors for different augmented versions...

    Abstract
Deriving the shape, area, volume, and orientation of a defect from the ultrasonic nondestructive testing images of the oil pipelines, paves the way for the estimation of its severity. This paper describes the design and implementation of an automatic structure which can move an ultrasonic probe over the surface of a test sample, while preserving the distance, i.e. stand-off, between them, whatever the shape of the surface might be. The fixed stand-off is implemented, closing a feedback loop with a distance meter sensor. Also an integrated software environment is developed for the control of the table, data acquisition, data processing and displaying the results. After acquiring the...

Modeling and Sliding Mode Control of a Roll-Pitch Seeker

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasemi, Mahsa (Author) ; Nobahari, Hadi (Supervisor) ; Pourtakdoust, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Mohammad Karimi, Hamed (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is sliding mode control of a roll-pitch seeker by considering the zenith pass problem. This problem takes place when the target appears in front of the seeker’s head. First, the mathematical model of the roll and pitch frames is obtained by the Newton-Euler equations of motion. Then, a MIMO sliding mode controller is designed. The performance of the controller is investigated in the presence of model uncertainties and seeker disturbances. The results indicate that the designed controller is robust enough and provides a suitable performance in the stabilization, tracking and guidance loops.

Simulation of Carbonate Reservoir Acidizing Using Fractured Reservoir Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Ali (Author) ; Bazargan, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The process of injecting acid or acidizing, is one of the most common ways to stimulate oil and gas wells. The purpose of this process is to increase the productivity of the well by increasing the permeability of the reservoir rock around the well. This is especially important in carbonate reservoirs due to damage to the formation and low intrinsic permeability in some places. In order to minimize the effects of structural damage, conventional wormhole channels are created to pass through the injured area. One of the important factors in acid validation is achieving optimal injection rate, which means obtaining the highest permeability with the lowest amount of injected acid.Numerous...

Control of an Islanded Multi-DG Microgrid under Unbalanced and Nonlinear Loads Conditions

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hamzeh, Mohsen (Author) ; Mokhtari, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Karimi, Houshang (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, the use of distributed generation (DG) units and microgrid systems is mainly limited to their operation in the grid-connected mode. In the grid-connected mode, a microgrid including its loads and DG units is connected to the main grid at the point of common coupling (PCC). In this case, the main grid provides fixed voltage and frequency for the microgird and each DG unit regulates its power components based on the conventional dq-current control strategy. Autonomous (islanded) operation of a microgrid, however, is not as straightforward as its operation in the grid-connected mode, i.e., control and power management of an islanded microgrid is very difficult due to the stochastic...

With the increasing expansion of modern DC loads and utilizing energy storage systems along with distributed renewable energy resources, grid-following bidirectional voltage-sourced converters (GFBVSCs) with fast dynamic performance are required. Due to the presence of single-phase loads and asymmetrical short circuit faults, unbalanced grid voltage conditions are available in the distribution system. Under unbalanced conditions, an oscillating component with a frequency of twice the grid angular frequency appears on the DC side. Removing double-frequency ripple in the DC link voltage without third harmonic current injection and reactive power injection to the grid based on the grid codes to...

Improving the Efficiency of Program State Coverage Criterion

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Shahab (Author) ; Mirian Hossein Abadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most crucial methods to Ensure correct software performance is testing. On this ground, one of the most critical discussions regarding software testing is the effectiveness of a test suite. Program state coverage is a criterion for determining the effectiveness of a test suite. This criterion indicates the number of program states that are executed for the lines. Since the total number of program states cannot be calculated to measure coverage, this criterion proposes a fixed number of 10 to measure program state coverage. Also, according to calculations for the program state in the execution of each line, the time complexity of this criterion is high. In this thesis, providing...
