Nonlinear seismic response of concrete gravity dams due to foundation fault movement

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Vol. 21, issue. 5 , 2014 , pp. 1539-1548 ; ISSN: 10263098 Ghaemian, M ; Vafai, A. H ; Karimi, Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Not only should dams be evaluated for seismic shaking, but their capability to survive potential fault displacement in their foundations should also be assessed. Safety reviews of existing dams suggest that geological-seismic evaluation of some dam sites has failed to recognize the existence of possibly active faults. In this study, the nonlinear seismic behavior of concrete gravity dams, due to relative fault dislocation occurring in foundations, has been investigated. Two types of fault movement, including normal-slip and reverse-slip, have been considered. These two types, combined with the location of fault lines, with respect to the toe, middle, and heel of the dam base, angle of fault,...

    , Article 14th IEEE International On-Line Testing Symposium, IOLTS 2008, Rhodes, 7 July 2008 through 9 July 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 173-174 ; 9780769532646 (ISBN) Karimi, N ; Aminzadeh, S ; Safari, S ; Navabi, Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
This paper presents an efficient High-Level Synthesis (HLS) approach to improve RT-Level concurrent testing. The proposed method used for both fault detection and fault location. At first the available resources are used in their dead intervals to test active resources for fault detection, and then some changes are applied to the RT-Level controller to locate the faults. The fault detection step is based on a genetic algorithm (GA) search technique. This genetic algorithm is applied to the design after high level synthesis process to explore the test map. The proposed method has been evaluated based on dependability enhancement and area/latency overhead imposed to different benchmarks after...

Two-Period Pricing and Sales Channels Selection with Fairness Concern

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jaberi, Sara (Author) ; Sedghi, Nafiseh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Pricing and revenue management are among the most important decisions for any economic enterprise. Several factors can influence decisions in this area and change the company’s pricing strategy, including uncertainties in product demand and customer preferences. This factor becomes particularly significant when the product is newly launched. Therefore, over time, customer preferences and willingness to pay may increase through various advertisements such as customer reviews and word-of-mouth. With rising demand, the seller has the opportunity to raise prices in the next periods. However, price increases can lead to unfair pricing perceptions by customers, hence reducing their purchasing...

Fast mapping in word-learning: A case study on the humanoid social robots' impacts on Children's performance

    , Article International Journal of Child-Computer Interaction ; Volume 38 , 2023 ; 22128689 (ISSN) Esfandbod, A ; Rokhi, Z ; Meghdari, A. F ; Taheri, A ; Soleymani, Z ; Alemi, M ; Karimi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2023
    Abstract
The evolution of robotic technology has heightened the demands for robots capable of social interaction with humans, also known as social robots. The encouraging prospects of deploying this advanced assistive tool in entertainment, healthcare, and education have, in turn, promoted substantial growth in studies conducted on the human-robot interaction (HRI) topic. One hot HRI subject is the examination of social robots' efficacy within various educational scenarios, e.g., word learning. In the context of word learning, fast mapping (FM) is a well-established technique through which novel words are taught by contrasting them with previously known words. The concept of this approach originates...

Experimental Study on Aerodynamic Deformation of Flexible Wings of an Ornithopter

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jaberi, Pouyan (Author) ; Mazaheri, Karim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Flapping motions of flexible wings generate dynamic forces. These forces include aerodynamic forces and inertial forces due to angular acceleration of wing mass, that cause aeroelastic deformation of wings. In this thesis a method is presented by use of a software and some experimental test conditions to study elastic behaviors and aerodynamic forces of flexible wings. A high speed camera records motion of wings in hovering condition and then these images is processed with software to recognize deformations (such as deflection, torsion, etc.) and aerodynamic forces due to them. Afterwards aerodynamic model and deformations is combined for better modeling. Finally we can compare results with...

Influence of nickel and manganese on microstructure and mechanical properties of shielded metal arc-welded API-X80 steel

    , Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Volume 21, Issue 7 , July , 2012 , Pages 1447-1454 ; 10599495 (ISSN) Jaberi, F. S ; Kokabi, A. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Microstructure developments of X80 weld metal by the addition of different amounts of alloying elements such as nickel and manganese to the covering of electrodes were investigated. For this reason, samples were welded with electrodes that Ni value has changed between 0.8 and 3.5% in two critical amounts of Mn 0.7 and 1.6. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were applied for peer investigation of microstructure. Different phase percentages were obtained by Clemex software and compared in all samples. Results indicated that Ni and Mn change weld microstructure in the as-deposited zone and reheated part and corresponding to each alloying element concentration, amount of...
