The Investigation of the Forecast of Rail-Passenger Transport Ticket Reservation Demand
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Karami, Naser (Supervisor)
Abstract
Demand estimation has always been one of the most important components of marketing in all industries. Because the profitability of any organization depends on the demand for the product or service that the organization offers to the market. On the other hand, in order to optimize the performance of the organization and better planning, we need to have an estimate of demand in order to avoid wasting the available facilities by optimally allocating resources. Another issue that shows the importance of demand estimation is the dependence of optimal pricing on the amount of demand, which can be said to be the most important tool of the organization to manage its revenue. Optimal pricing can be...
Inelastic Modeling of Mixed Hinge in Deformation Space and its Application in the Analysis of Frames
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Inelastic analysis of frames is considered in many researches to obtain the capacity of strength and deformation and also to predict of their realistic behavior. The yielded inelastic zones in the frames, usually occur in the limited length of the beams or columns. One of the inelastic analysis methods is the inelastic hinge method, where the inelastic behavior of elements is concentrated at the hinges, while the other regions are assumed to be elastic. Existing in the inelastic zones, the internal forces are not independent from the each other, and against the elastic zones, the interaction among them are important, too. In the present research, by using of the inelastic hinge concept, a...

In order to evaluate the seismic behavior of confined masonry buildings, based on Iranian seismic code design, a single storey full-scale unreinforced confined brick masonry building has been constructed on the shaking table facility at the Earthquake Engineering Research Center (EERC) of Sharif University of Technology. The 4 by 4 meter model consists of four brick masonry walls confined with reinforced mortar tie-columns and steel bond beams, with a traditional jack-arch roof system. Three of the wall panels contained openings of different sizes and geometries. The model was subjected to the scaled earthquake records of Bam, Tabas and El Centro, as well as a harmonic acceleration with...
Transmission Radius Games on Wireless Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abam, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
With the daily increase in the volume of information and due to the growth and pervasiveness of wireless networks, the structures and the way of connection of intermediate nodes have become very important in terms of energy, communication speed and communication overhead. In this thesis, we examine the structure of directionless wireless networks assuming nodes are selfish. In these networks, nodes seek to minimize their costs while being required to access all nodes with limited path length. Due to the selfishness of nodes, we used game theory to analyze the structure and behavior of nodes by calculating the Nash equilibrium state and to compare these networks with networks that are managed...
Argument Against Germ-line Genetic Enhancement
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this dissertation, we will attempt a discussion of some ethical implications of genetic enhancement and present an argument against certain group of enhancements. We will demonstrate that this discussion requires a distinction between therapy and enhancement, therefore the arguments for and againt this distinction will be examined but it will be adopted in the end based on its merits. We will also show how genetic enhancement is a real possibility that will be available for consumers in the near future; and how probing the ethical issues surrounding the technology is quite necessary. We will then turn our focus to different theories of normative ethics and an examination of their merits...
Leakage Detection in Water Pipes using a Smart Robotic Device
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sayyaadi, Hassan (Supervisor) ; Meghdari, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Leakages in the transmission pipes include a large proportion of water loss. Scarcity of fresh water in one hand and high costs to compensate for drop in pressure and flow lines, on the other hand, detection and location of leaks have been important. This phenomenon can also cause a lot of damage to the urban contextures. This thesis considers the leakage in tubing buried in the soil by means of a floating robot. Since the rate of leakage, specifies the requirement to perform maintenances, In addition to finding the leakage, an overall estimate of the amount of leakage is desired.Since non-destructive leak detection is desired, the mechanical-magnetic sensor is designed. First, for the...
Improvement of Polymer Composites Thermal Conductivity by Nanoparticles
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nouri Broujerdi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
The new generation of electronic devices including 5G internet, wearable electronics, LED optoelectronics or cloud computing devices have higher power density as their computing power increases and their sizes reduce. The increase in power density leads to higher heat generation and consequently higher operating temperature which reduces their lifetime and reliability. In recent years development of novel solutions for electronic cooling has been persued. Thermal interface material that inserted between heat source and heat sink is the main component in electronic cooling. These materials consists of a polymeric base that filled with highly thermally conductive solid particles. By emergence...
Buckling of Laminated Composite Truncated Conical Shells with Variable Thickness
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Koochakzadeh, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the present study, the buckling of generally laminated truncated conical shells having thickness variation expressed by a linear function, subjected to axial compression with simply or clamped supports has been considered. To begin with, the fundamental relations for a conical shell with variable thickness have been derived applying thin-walled shallow shell theory of Donnell-type and theorem of minimum potential energy; non-linear terms of Donnell equations by the help of adjacent-equilibrium criterion are linearized. Governing equations are solved using power series method and are applicable for all combinations of classical boundary conditions. The results are validated with Galerkin...

,
Ph.D. Dissertation
Sharif University of Technology
;
Kouchakzadeh, Mohammad Ali
(Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, irregularities of the mode shapes are utilized to determine the delamination situation in a composite laminated beam. Modal analysis is used to obtain the mode shapes of the beam; afterwards, the mode shapes are filtered to extract their irregularities. Presence of any delamination and its situation (number, size and location along the length and thickness of the beam) affects the extracted irregularities. Here, detection of delamination is based on these irregularities of the mode shapes. One of the most important advantages of this method is that unlike many other similar methods, in many cases, the mode shapes of damaged structure are sufficient and the exact mode shapes...

Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Hydrogel Wound Dressing based on Silk Fibroin and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nemati, Ali (Supervisor) ; Shokrgozar, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor) ; Farokhi, Mehdi (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Recently, some wound dressings have been designed that are expected to enhance the wound healing process and prevent blood bleeding and infection. Polymeric dressings have attracted attention due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, lack of toxicity, and non-allergenic nature. There is widespread interest in using silk fibroin (SF) for this purpose because of its unique properties. Given these points, we have designed an injectable antioxidant hydrogel wound dressing based on SF and Polydopamine(PDA) modified ZnO nanoparticles. First, ZnO nanoparticles were doped with Cu and then modified with PDA (ZnCuO@PDA). XRD, FTIR, SEM, and TEM characterizations were carried out to confirm the...

Abstract
Electrochemical activity of TiO2 nanotube arrays (NTAs) is restricted by a wide band gap of TiO2. To overcome this restriction, we considered systematic research on two effective methods of doping of TiO2 NTAs such as the N-doping and electrochemical reductive doping and predicting the proper application of them. Band gap narrowing was occurred from 3.16 eV for undoped TiO2 NTAs to 2.9 and 2.7 eV at N-doped and self-doped TiO2 ones respectively. The electrochemical responses of the TiO2 NTAs before and after doping were examined by cyclic Voltammetry (CV) curve. To understand the electrochemical behavior of the undoped and doped TiO2 NTAs, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was...

Abstract
Although morphological disorder of nanotube structure is further down than the nanoparticular electrode, its density of traps are the hindering effects in the charge transport. In this study, crack-free TiO2 nanotube membranes, which obtained through a re-anodizing process, are fixed on transparent fluorine–tin-oxide glass by applying a few drops of Titanium Isopropoxide without needing the TiO2 powder paste. Front-side illuminated dye sensitized solar cells fabricated by undoped, N-doped and blue TiO2 nanotube membranes are investigated. The electrical characteristics of TiO2 nanotube based dye sensitized solar cells are followed by theoretical analysis using simple one-diode model....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
With increasing population and lack of habitable spaces, the building heights increased in cities around the world. Placing components of a structure in tandem may cause a permanent failure of the members due to strength reduction. During recent years, this kind of failure occurred in different places of the world, and is called progressive collapse. There are some various samples of the progressive collapse which all are good samples of failures such as building failure in Ronan Point in the UK, Twin Towers or the world trade center in NY, and Pentagon building. According to these issues, different institutions codified guidelines and codes in this field such as Department of Defense as DoD...

, Article Computers and Industrial Engineering, Elsevier ; Volume 50, Issue 4, August 2006, Pages 358–366 ; Kazemi, Morteza ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, a new algorithm for solving the shortest loop design problem is presented. The shortest loop design problem is to find the shortest loop for an automated guided vehicle covering at least one edge of each department of a block layout. In this paper, first it is shown that this problem can be represented as a graph model. The properties of the presented model enable us to design a meta-heuristic based on ant colony system algorithm for solving the shortest loop design problem. Computational results show the efficiency of our algorithm in compare to the other techniques
MMRO: A feature selection criterion for MR images based on alpha stable filter responses
, Article 2011 7th Iranian Conference on Machine Vision and Image Processing, MVIP 2011 - Proceedings ; 2011 ; 9781457715358 (ISBN) ; Fatemizadeh, E ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In feature-based image registration, feature selection and reduction methods play an important role in decreasing computational burden of these operations. In this paper, a new approach is introduced to reduce the dimension of extracted feature vectors of MR images. This approach is based on the selection of the maximum and minimum responses of the alpha stable filter for the MR images over the extracted features with different orientation in frequency domain. This algorithm selects the rotation invariant features which are suitable for image registration purposes. It has been shown that these features could efficiently describe the image elements. The discriminating ability of the features...
