Modeling Moment-Rotation (M-@)Curve for Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS)Splice Beam Connection Subjected to Bending Moment and Axial Force
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mofid, Masood (Supervisor)
Abstract
The study of bolted moment end-plate connections, both beam to column and beam to beam connections, is quite general and standard nowadays. Buildings which utilize such connections are widely being used and the reorganization of their significant benefits is growing. The research work reported in this thesis presents the results of several parametric analyses to determine the moment–rotation curve of bolted moment end-plate connections utilizing Rectangular Hollow Sections (RHS) and two rows of bolts using Finite Element Modeling (FEM). Previous experimental studies have focused on the moment-rotation relationship under pure bending. This project particularly involves further numerical...
Electrodeposition of Pt nanostructures and its Application as Glucose Sensor
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The present work describes sensing application of modified Pt nanostructures towards detection of glucose. Modified Pt nanostructured electrodes were prepared using electrodeposition method such as chronoampermetry and potentiostatic pulse methods. The electrodeposition of Pt nanostructures was first studied by voltammetry and amperommetry techniques and then potentiostatic pulse method has been used to produce the alloyed structures of platinum. In this regard, the first electrode was proposed based on alloyed Pt/Ni nanowire arrays (NWAs) for the non-enzymatic detection of glucose. The Pt/Ni NWAs were prepared by pulse electrodeposition of Pt and Ni within a nano-pore polycarbonate (PC)...
Quantum Estimation of Open Systems Using Extended Cramer-Rao Bounds
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rezakhani, Ali (Supervisor) ; Alipour, Sahar (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Any physical system is characterized with some set of quantities or parameters, knowing which, is equivalent to estimation of the system. Evaluating such parameters is usually done using tomography methods. An important question to ask, is how to increase the precision of measurement, being able to do some specific set of physical operations, say, measurement?
this question is more important in parameter estimation in quantum meanical systems. It has been shown that, quantum meanics causes a fundamental limit, on precision of estimating su parameters, escribed by the so called “antum Cramér-Rao bound”.We must note that almost all quantum meanical systems are interacting with the...

Selective Transfection of Smart Polymeric Nanoparticles Into Reactive Astrocytes in Animal Model of Spinal Cord Injury
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Frounchi, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Mashayekhan, Shohreh (Co-Supervisor) ; Kiani, Sahar (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, chitosan-based nanoparticles were prepared due to their biocompatibility, availability, high loading capacity of drug, stimulus responsive behavior and the presence of active functional groups. Chitosan was chemically functionalized with reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive moiety to respond to the oxidative stess and endosomal pH in nerve injuries. To prepare nanoparticles, functinalized chitosan ionically gelated with pH-responsive polyanions with ROS-scavenging properties such as polyacrylic acid and hyaluronic acid. Then, pH- and ROS-responsive nanoparticles were used for selective transfection into reactive astrocytes and axonal regeneration in spinal cord injuries....
Ant colony algorithm for the shortest loop design problem [electronic resource]
, Article Computers and Industrial Engineering, Elsevier ; Volume 50, Issue 4, August 2006, Pages 358–366 ; Kazemi, Morteza ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, a new algorithm for solving the shortest loop design problem is presented. The shortest loop design problem is to find the shortest loop for an automated guided vehicle covering at least one edge of each department of a block layout. In this paper, first it is shown that this problem can be represented as a graph model. The properties of the presented model enable us to design a meta-heuristic based on ant colony system algorithm for solving the shortest loop design problem. Computational results show the efficiency of our algorithm in compare to the other techniques
Propositional attitudes as commitments: unleashing some constraints
, Article Dialogue-Canadian Philosophical Review ; Volume 59, Issue 3 , 2020 , Pages 437-457 ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In a series of articles, Asbjorn Steglich-Petersen and Nick Zangwill argue that, since propositional attitude (PA) ascription judgements do not behave like normative judgements in being subject to a priori normative supervenience and the Because Constraint, PAs cannot be constitutively normative.1 I argue that, for a specific version of normativism, according to which PAs are normative commitments, these arguments fail. To this end, I argue that commitments and obligations should be distinguished. Then, I show that the intuitions allegedly governing all normative judgements do not even purport to hold for commitment-attributing judgements. Copyright © Canadian Philosophical Association 2020
Commitment, norm-governedness and guidance
, Article Acta Analytica ; 2020 ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
A number of philosophers have argued that there is a basic problem in the no-guidance argument against content normativism. The problem is that the argument restricts the essential normativity of intentional states to the formation of these states being guided by certain norms. But it is suggested that the essential norm-governedness of intentional states can be equally plausibly construed as the assessability of these states by norms, which does not imply complying with them. Although I concur with the problem diagnosed in the no-guidance argument, I take issue with the alternative conception of normativity which is put forward. In its stead, I argue that considering intentional states as...

Causal relations and abraham’s dilemma: a Qur’anic perspective
, Article Sophia ; 2021 ; 00381527 (ISSN) ; Sharif University of Technology

2021
Abstract
Abraham’s Dilemma is the conjunction of three jointly inconsistent propositions: (i) God’s commands are never morally wrong, (ii) God has commanded Abraham to kill his innocent son, and (iii) killing innocent people is morally wrong. Drawing on an overlooked point from the Qur’an regarding the content of the command as well as a conceptual analysis of intentional action, this paper proposes a novel solution to the dilemma by discarding proposition (ii) in a new way. Current approaches to rejecting proposition (ii) tend to appeal to epistemic failure on the side of Abraham. In my approach, which draws on the so-called accordion effect in intentional action, God’s command is interpreted in...

Abstract
In what sense can one claim that intentional explanations are essentially normative, given that people’s actions and thinking are replete with various irrationalities, yet are still pretty well explained by this explanatory framework? This article provides a novel response to this enduring objection. First, following Brandom, it is suggested that, to understand the normativity of intentional states, we should countenance and distinguish between two normative categories of commitment and entitlement, only the former of which is argued to be essential for intentional explanations. Conflating these two normative dimensions is noted to be one of the main sources of the objections leveled against...

Innovative Team Climate, Teamwork Quality and Team Performance in Software Development Teams
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kermanshah, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this dissertation, our aim is to evaluate a model linking “Teamwork Quality” and “Innovative Team Climate”. Teamwork Quality is defined as the quality of interactions among team members that includes six dimensions: “Communication”, “Coordination”, “Balance of Contribution”, “Mutual Support”, “Effort”, and “Cohesion”. Innovative Team Climate refers to shared perceptions of team policies, practices and procedures in support of innovation. This construct is composed of four dimensions: “Vision”, “Participation Safety”, “Task Orientation”, and “Support of Innovation”. Firstly, we hypothesized that there are positive relations between Innovative Team Climate and Teamwork Quality itself and...
Comparison Between Methods Of Synchronization In A Queue With Finite Customer Population
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahlooji, Hashem (Supervisor)
Abstract
One technique to reduce variance of output in comparing two or more systems via simulation is random number synchronization. the primary technique for achieving synchronization is to assign an independent seed to each random process and then use the same collection of seeds across all systems . Another way of synchronization in systems with limited customer population is to assign different seed to each customer (transaction) and then use the same collection of seeds across all systems. The main Question to be considered here is which of these methods of synchronization can better reduce variance of output in a queue with finite customer population
Genco's Bidding Strategy in Day-Ahead Energy Market Considering Demand Response
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Since 1980s the electricity market has been gradually evolving from a monopoly market into a liberalized one for encouraging competition and improving efficiency. This brings the opportunity for generation companies (Gencos) to make more profits while embracing more risks of not being dispatched. Therefore, it has become a core interest for the Gencos to develop optimal bidding strategies to maximize the profits and minimize the risks while participating in such a competitive market. Error of determining day-ahead electricity price is one of the sources of the risk. Energy price has a high impact on bidding strategy optimization process. So it should be determined with low error which is not...
Adaptive Compensation of Effect of Slow Dynamic Actuators in Robots Without Output Torque Measurement
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Namvar, Mehrzad (Supervisor)
Abstract
A motion tracking control design of an n-DOF rigid robot by taking into account its actuator dynamics is proposed in this paper using backstepping technique. neglecting actuator dynamics in control of rigid robot manipulators can degrade the performance and loss of stability. However, consideration of actuator dynamics entails joint torque or armature currents measurement. In this study, torque measurement has been avoided using an torque estimator.. Finally, Semi-global convergence for motion tracking error are proven. In addition, A simulation example of a two-link robotic manipulator is also given to clarify the effectiveness of proposed design method. Considering actuator dynamics entails...
Scouring Contol by Submerged Vanes at 90° Open-Channel Junctions
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Borghei, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, the effect of submerged vanes on the bed scouring and deposition pattern at a 90̊ open-channel junction was investigated. First, the bed formation without submerged vanes were studied under the effect of hydraulic variables like the discharge ratio of tributary to main channel and the ratio of mean approach velocity to the threshold velocity. The results show that scour holes enlarge with time while they move towards the downstream and the outer wall in the main channel. Also, by increasing the ratio of mean approach velocity to the threshold velocity about 0.5, the maximum scour depth occurred at the downstream junction corner with time. In the second stage, the proper vane...
Optimum Highway Alignment Using Parallel Processing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shafahi, Yusof (Supervisor)
Abstract
Optimum highway alignment problem is among the most substantial but large and complicated topics in transportation area. Infinite number of feasible solutions, numerous local optima and the constrained feature of the problem, associated with complex and mainly non-linear constrains, has put an extra effort into the problem-solving process. Moreover, the problem has a sensitive objective function to input variables. Due to the nature of the problem, conventional methods fail to find any exact solution, and so, using heuristic methods during the solving procedure is inevitable. Large-scale, complexity and sensitivity of the problem leads to a solution which is time-consuming and...
Model Checking of Real-time Coordination Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Izadi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The main goal of this thesis is to verify real-time properties of timed coordinated systems specified by timed-Reo circuits using the model checking techniqe. We use Timed Buchi Automata of Records (TBAR) as the semantics of timed-Reo. The model checking is done by converting Timed Buchi Automata of Records to an extension of Timed Automata that are usingas input of UPPAAL tool. We introduce a writer-automaton, which is synchronous with the desired Timed Automata, for initializing input ports. A tool that transforms Timed Buchi Automata of Records to UPPAAL Timed Automata has been implemented. Finally, two model checking case studies are examined by usingof our implemented tool over UPPAAL
Wilfrid Sellars on Science and Reality
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Azadegan, Ebrahim (Supervisor)
Abstract
Wilfrid Stalker Sellars (1912-1989) is an analytic philosopher whose philosophy is famous for being deep, systematic and extremely influential and notorious for being difficult to read. Although he has many original and interconnected ideas in different branches of philosophy- including metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of mind, ethics, philosophy of language and meta-philosophy- the place of science in his system is completely indispensable. In his meta-philosophy, Sellars defines his philosophical project as an attempt to reconcile two distinct world-views of humanity in the modern word; scientific image and manifest image. Approaching Sellars’ philosophy by placing science at the...
