, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khademi, Mahshid (Author) ; Khademi, Mahshid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Self-leadership” is a process through which individuals control their performance and lead themselves by using specific behavioral and cognitive strategies (Manz, 1986; Manz and Neck, 2004). This concept includes a toolkit of behavioral activities borrowed from social cognitive theory and goal setting. It also includes constructive thought processes that have been extensively studied in sports psychology. Scholars have categorized the SL (self-leadership) strategies into three main categories; behavioral, natural reward and constructive thought Strategies. (Neck and Houghton, 2006) Given the growing importance of self-leadership in contemporary organizations operating in an increasingly...

    Abstract
In this study a novel Pt/Ni nanostructure consisting of nano-bushes and nanocubes was fabricated onto TiO 2 nanotubes. The scanning electron microscopy images showed that a large amount of well-dispersed nano-architectures had uniformly covered all over the surface which made an electrode with high surface area. It was obviously seen that the nanocube structures mainly consists of Ni had been grown on top of each other while the Pt colonies represented bush-like structures. As a non-enzymatic glucose biosensor, the Pt/Ni TiO 2 nanotubes modified electrode exhibited an excellent performance. The proposed biosensor had two linear ranges for detection of glucose from 0 to 0.12 mM (correlation...

An Investigation on the electrochemical behavior of the co/cu multilayer system

    , Article Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology ; Volume 10, Issue 9 , September , 2010 , Pages 5964-5970 ; 15334880 (ISSN) Mahshid, S. S ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Co/Cu multilayers were deposited in a sulfate solution by controlling the current and potential for the deposition of cobalt and copper layer respectively. The electrochemical behavior of these multilayers was studied by cyclic voltammetry and current transients. In addition, a mathematical analysis was used to characterize the electrodeposition system. Simultaneously, the nucleation and growth mechanisms were monitored by these techniques. In this case, the results clearly showed that electrodeposition of cobalt layers was a kinetically controlled process while the reduction of copper ions was a diffusion-control process. Although nucleation mechanism of the single Co deposit was found as a...

A study on the electrodeposition mechanism of cobalt-nickel/copper multilayer from sulfate solution

    , Article International Journal of Modern Physics B ; Volume 22, Issue 18-19 , 2008 , Pages 3046-3059 ; 02179792 (ISSN) Mahshid, S. S ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd  2008
    Abstract
The cobalt-nickel/copper multilayer films were prepared by electrodeposition process in sulfate solution using a three electrode cell. Cyclic voltammetry and double chronoampermetry techniques were utilized to characterize the multilayer system and to obtain the nucleation and growth mechanism. The cyclic voltammograms determined the reduction potential range of the three components and also clearly emphasized that electrodeposition of cobalt-nickel alloy was controlled by a kinetic process, while copper ions were reduced with diffusion-controlled mechanism. These results were confirmed with those which were extracted from the chronoampermetry curves. In addition, the current transients...

    Taylor and Francis Ltd  2023
    Abstract
This research focused on high-performance alkali-activated slag concrete (HPASC) as an overlay material on ordinary Portland cement concrete (OPCC). HPASC specimens were designed with different NaOH molarity, silica fume (SF) content, steel fiber content, age of repair material, and proportion of grooved surface area to the gross area. The results indicated that the steel fibers in HPASC improved the compressive strength and increased the BSS strength. The convolutional neural network (CNN) and multilayered perceptron (MLP) were used to determine a comprehensive model for simulating the effect of each parameter on the BSS shear strength. The simulation results suggest that the CNN, as...

Network Design Problem to Prevent Chaotic Flow

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khademi, Mostafa (Author) ; Pourzahedi, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Two significant features of a transportation network, uncertainty and complexity, might cause some irregular behaviors. One example of such behaviors is chaotic flow in which the transportation system fails to reach equilibrium and people experience different daily travel times. These uncertainties are not controllable in any transportation system and, if not taken into consideration, will result to low levels of service and poor reliability. In this study, an evolutionary traffic assignmet model is used to illustrate when the network reaches bifurcation and chaos. Later, the effects of uncertainty in the parameters of supply and demand is tested on the evolutionary traffic assignment model....

Time Accurate 3D Analysis of Liquid Jet Breakup Dynamics Using the Image Analysis Techniques

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khademi, Hengameh (Author) ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The liquid breakup analysis and spray characteristics measurement of atomizer are very essential for the numerical modeling of the primary atomization in combustion chambers. The atomization process is irregular and random nature and is a chaotic phenomenon. This study was motivated by the lack of temporal analysis of the breakup process especially for the first and second wind-induced breakup regimes and the atomization regime. The aim of this study was to determine the location, velocity and structures of breakup liquid jet at different outlet pressures from 0.3 bar to 50 bar. The results indicate that the breakup length, ligament size, and the breakup time period are randomly varied in...

Investigating the Effects of the Length of Yielding Area In Buckling-Restrained Braces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khademi, Ziba (Author) ; Mofid, Masood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Structures having buckling restrained braces (BRB) as earthquake resisting system, have the qualities of high lateral stiffness and the ability to damp the energy coming from earthquake, at the same time.In addition to new structures, these braces can also be used in rehabilitating old steel or concrete buildings. By using this kind of resisting system, smaller sections are needed in design of buildings and also the cost of repair after earthquake can be highly reduced. The most important advantage of buckling restrained braces is their equal behavior and capacity in both tention and compression, that causes high energy absorption as a result of symmetric and stable cyclic behavior. All these...

Single-quantum interferometry: Which-way versus which-phase information stored in an ancillary quantum system

    , Article Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical ; Volume 52, Issue 40 , 2019 ; 17518113 (ISSN) Khademi, S ; Bahrampour, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Institute of Physics Publishing  2019
    Abstract
In interferometers, the more information about a quantum's path that is available in an ancillary quantum system (AQS), the less visibility the interference has. By use of Shannon entropy, we try to compare the amount of which-phase information with the amount of which-way information stored in the AQS of two-path interferometers with symmetric beam merging. We show that the former is less than or equal to the latter if the bipartite system of the single quantum and the AQS is initially prepared in a pure state and the interaction between the two parts is unitary. The equality holds when symmetry exists. No which-way information is obtained by the measurement that we use for extracting the...

Effect of Si antioxidant on the rate of oxidation of carbon in MgO-C refractory

    , Article International Journal of Engineering, Transactions B: Applications ; Volume 24, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 357-366 ; 1728-144X (ISSN) Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Bagheri, N ; Mahshid, S ; Sharif University of Technology
Materials and Energy Research Center  2011
    Abstract
Progressive conversion/shrinking core (PC-SC) models of constant-size cylinders were exploited to interpret the decarburization reactions of MgO-C-Si bricks heated up under blown air. Chemical adsorption/solid (or pore) diffusion mechanisms governed the reaction rate. With 5% silicon, chemical adsorption vanished at 1000 and 1100°C. The oxidation rate lowered then with temperature. This was due apparently to the blocking of the pore-end gorges by the voluminous compounds (like Forstrite). Arrhenius plots of the specific rates yielded the activation energies of the prevailing steps. Without Si antioxidant, three steps were appreciated having activation energies of 51.65 (for chemical...

Effect of brookite presence on nanocrystalline anatase - Rutile phase transformation

    , Article International Journal of Nanotechnology ; Volume 6, Issue 10-11 , 2009 , Pages 961-972 ; 14757435 (ISSN) Mahshid, S ; Askari, M ; Sasani Ghamsari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
TiO2nanocrystals were prepared by hydrolysis and peptisation of titanium isopropoxide under different pH values. The as-prepared powder of very fine anatase crystallites ranges from 8 nm in acidic solution of pH 3 to 10 nm in basic solution of pH 8. Heat treatment of the powders leads to grain growth and anatase - rutile transformation. Experimental results have shown that the anatase to rutile phase transformation in the heat-treated powders depend not only on primary crystallite size but also the presence of brookite phase. It is observed that in the powders with the same size the presence brookite phase would accelerate the anatase to rutile transformation. Furthermore it has been found...

Sustainable ammonia production from steam reforming of biomass-derived glycerol in a heat-integrated intensified process: Modeling and feasibility study

    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
Currently, ammonia, as a clean and sustainable energy carrier, is intensively synthesized from its elements during the Haber-Bosch technology. This process requires a large amount of energy and emits numerous amounts of carbon dioxide, because hydrogen is dominantly produced from fossil fuels through reforming processes. Biomass-derived glycerol steam reforming is an attractive alternative to traditional reforming for reducing the dependence on hydrocarbon resources and mitigating climate change. This research aims to intensify a heat-integrated process for the co-production of ammonia and syngas from glycerol valorization. In this process, glycerol reforming continuously provides hydrogen...

    Abstract
Catalytic reduction of nitrobenzene is the leading technological step in aniline production. The hydrogen required for this stage, is dominantly produced from fossil fuels through reforming processes, which take much energy and emit large amounts of CO2. Biomass-derived glycerol steam reforming is an attractive alternative to traditional reforming to reduce the dependence on hydrocarbon resources and mitigate climate change. This research aims to analyze a mass- and heat-integrated multi-tubular membrane reactor, containing nitrobenzene hydrogenation (exothermic-side) and glycerol steam reforming (endothermic-side) for co-production of aniline and syngas. In this process, hydrogenation...
