, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khaki Arani, Mehdi (Author) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor) ; Feghhi, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Burnup calculations based on the Monte Carlo method have been developed in line with the improvements in computing technology. Nowadays, in the field of nuclear reactor physics, it is possible to perform burnup calculation in a detailed 3D geometry and continuous energy description by the Monte Carlo method. COMB is a fully automated code in DELPHI 7 that links the MCNP4C Monte Carlo transport code with the radioactive decay and burnup calculation code system, ORIGEN2.1. The principal function of COMB is first to transfer one-group cross sections and fluxes from MCNP4C to ORIGEN2.1, and then transfer the resulting material compositions (after irradiation and/or decay) from ORIGEN2.1 back to...

    Abstract
Thermomechnical processing and controlled rolling of microalloyed steel sheets are affected by several factors according to the final properties of product. To create the high mechanical properties, a uniform and fine-grain structure is necessary in hot rolled final products. To produce such microstructures, every stage of the thermomechanical processing of the steel rolling has to be carefully controlled. Hence, first step is grain coarsening control that it usually occurs during reheating for slab. For this purpose, seven different reheating temperatures between 1000 to 1300 °C with 50 °C increments were chosen in this investigation for soaking treatment. By soaking the specimens in...

    Abstract
In this work, we study the performance of polar codes for lossy compression of a Gaussian source with a side information at decoder; known as the quadratic-Gaussian Wyner-Ziv problem. First we extend the binary polar codes to q-ary for the Wyner-Ziv problem. We show that the nested q- Ary polar codes are optimal for this case. Then we present two polar coding schemes for the Gaussian Wyner-Ziv problem. In the first scheme, we achieve a rate above the Wyner-Ziv rate-distortion function with a gap of 0.5 bits compared with the optimal rate. This scheme utilizes a successive cancellation decoder and is optimal in weak side-information cases when the decoder side-information noise variance is...

    Abstract
In this work, we study the lossy source coding of a Gaussian source with polar codes. We show through two distributions on discrete alphabet, quantized approach as well as Central Limit Theorem (CLT) approach, when the alphabet size grows to infinity, polar codes can achieve the rate distortion bound for a Gaussian source. By comparing the rate of convergence on two distributions, we show that the quantized approach have a better convergence rate than the CLT approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khaki, Ali (Author) ; Esmaeil Pourestekanchi, Homayun (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The structure performances during past earthquakes indicate the importance of predicting behaviors of irregular structures under earthquakes. If the irregularity exceeds an expected limit, a seismic analysis should be carried out by a dynamic analysis method. The Endurance Time (ET) is a time-history method, base on dynamic analysis for seismic analyzing and designing the structures, in which structures are subjected to intensifying accelerogram functions and their Endurance Time is measured. One of the most applicable methods for RCF analysis is the Concentrated Hinge Model which is used in this research too. The needed parameters for modeling plasticity in concentrated hinge are achieved...

    Abstract
We demonstrate the large deviation property for the mild solutions of stochastic evolution equations with monotone nonlinearity and multiplicative noise. This is achieved using the recently developed weak convergence method, in studying the large deviation principle. An Itô-type inequality is a main tool in the proofs. We also give two examples to illustrate the applications of the theorems

    Source Coding with Polar Codes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Eghbalian Arani, Sajjad (Author) ; Behroozi, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Polar codes were introduced by Arikan in 2009. These codes are the first family of codes that with low encoding complexity and successive cancellation decoder, can achieve the channel capacity. Polar codes, at first were implemented for channel coding, but in 2010 performance of these codes in binary and q-ary alphabet source was studied. It is shown that these codes can perform efficiently in channel coding and source coding. On the other hand, one of the most important continuous sources are Gaussian sources. Due to the importance of Gaussian sources and good performance of polar codes, we try to evaluate the performance of these codes in Gaussian sources. Note that, these codes have...

    Abstract
Fired heaters are large and complex items used in process plants. Tubular furnaces used mainly in chemical, petrochemical, and refinery process plants. For many process plants, the fired heater performance will determine process unit run-length. High tube metal temperature and coking in the process-fired heaters is one of the serious problems of process plants. Coke forms because the oil in tubes is no longer thermally stable at the operating conditions. Oil film temperature in the inside wall of tube somewhere that, process fluid has highest temperature and lowest velocity. Therefore, process fluid peak film temperature will determined rate of coke formation. This temperature is dependent...

    Abstract
In large population Speaker Identification (SI), computation time has become one of the most important issues in recent real time systems. Test computation time depends on the cost of likelihood computation between test features and registered speaker models. For real time application of speaker identification, system must identify an unknown speaker quickly. Hence the conventional SI methods cannot be used. In this paper, we propose a two-step method that utilizes two different identification methods. In the first step we use Nearest Neighbor method to decrease the search space. In the second step we use GMM-based SI methods to specify the target speaker. We achieved 3.5× speed-ups without...
