Abstract
In this paper, the effect of increasing the number of layers on improving the thermal performance of microchannel heat sinks is studied. In this way, both numerical and analytical methods are utilized. The analytical method is based on the porous medium assumption. Here, the modified Darcy equation and the energy balance equations are used. The method has led to an analytical expression presenting the average dimensionless temperature field in the multilayer microchannel heat sink. Abstract
This article proposes a multi-objective goal programming based approach with two objectives of maximizing the reliability and minimizing the placement cost of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) for full observability in power systems. The weighted sum goal programming formulation incorporates the reliability of individual PMUs and finds a placement to resolve the conflicting objectives of minimum number of PMUs cost-wise and maximum level of system-wide reliability. This multi-objective problem is formulated as a nonlinear goal programming model in which weights are associated with the objectives. In the present research a numerical investigation has been made to evaluate the results of analytical approach in the analysis of micro channel heat sink (MCHS) which is increasingly used in the cooling of high heat dissipating electronic devices. In this regard the effects of geometrical and flow parameters affecting the absolute thermal resistance of MCHS have been analyzed. Applying flexible variable shape control surfaces (wing and elevator) structures is a way to increase efficiency and maneuverability of the planes, which is recently under research. In this paper, modeling of the flight of an unmanned ultra light plane is discussed. The modeling is done based on a real ultra light plane presented recently. Abstract
Mammography is an x-ray-based imaging method to examine breast abnormalities. Since low-energy photons are used in mammography, doses to different organs would depend strongly on the phantom posture and anatomy. Until now, a few studies have been performed on doses delivered to different organs during mammography. However, in none of them, the correct posture of the patient has been considered. In the present study, the effect of accurate patient positioning, on doses to organs in the chest region were investigated through Monte Carlo simulations. In this paper a new approach to dynamic optimization of a rough terrain rover is introduced. Since rover wheels traction has a significant role in rover mobility, optimization is based on the minimization of traction at rover wheel-ground interfaces. The method of optimization chosen is Genetic Algorithm (GA) which is a directed random search technique along with the usual optimization based on directional derivatives. Abstract
We carried out molecular dynamics simulations (MD) to investigate the adsorption of calcium chloride (CaCl2) at n-hexane-water interfaces. We also measured the interfacial tensions (IFT) of the selected systems making use of the pendant-drop method. The histograms of hexane, water, and the ions indicate an electrical double layer (EDL) near the interface. The trend of the EDL indicates that chloride anions intend to adsorb to the interface more intrinsically than calcium cations. The measured interfacial width of the n-hexane-water interfaces decreases with the salt concentration. Abstract
We have used molecular dynamics simulation to investigate hydrophilic– hydrophobic interfaces between calcium chloride (CaCl2) aqueous solutions and normal hexane. The results demonstrate the increasing impact of salt concentration on the liquid–liquid interfacial tension, hence, negative adsorption of CaCl2 according to Gibbs adsorption isotherm. Moreover, we calculated the density profiles of hexane, water, and the counter ions. The results reveal an electrical double layer near the interface and the less affinity of calcium cations toward the interface than that of chloride anions. A Deza graph with parameters (n, k, b, a) is a k-regular graph with n vertices such that any two of its vertices have b or a common neighbours, where b ≥ a. In this paper we investigate spectra of Deza graphs. In particular, using the eigenvalues of a Deza graph we determine the eigenvalues of its children. Divisible design graphs are significant cases of Deza graphs. Sufficient conditions for Deza graphs to be divisible design graphs are given, a few families of divisible design graphs are presented and their properties are studied. The aim of this work was to study the treatment of strong beet sugar wastewater by an upflow anaerobic fixed bed (UAFB) at pilot plant scale. Three fixed bed bioreactors (each 60 L) were filled with standard industrial packing, inoculated with anaerobic culture (chicken manure, cow manure, anaerobic sludge digested from domestic wastewater) and operated at 32-34 °C with 20 h hydraulic retention time (HRT) and influent COD ranging between 2000-8000 mg/L. Let two coordinate systems, in possession of Alice and Bob, be related to each other by an unknown rotation R∈ SO (3). Alice is to send identical states | ψ⟩ to Bob who will make measurements on the received state and will determine the rotation R. The task of Bob is to estimate these parameters of the rotation R by the best possible measurements. Based on the quantum Fisher information, we show that Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) states are near optimal states for this task.
