, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khodabandeh Lou, Ramin (Author) ; Bastani, Daruoosh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mass transfer and axial dispersion coefficients for continues phase were calculated by axial mixing model for continues phase and forward mixing model for dispersed phase simultaneously. Experimental data was achieved in pulsed sieve plate column with 22 cm diameter. Toluene –water-acetone and Butanol-Succinic acid- water were used in this experiment. In these systems continues phase is water and mass transfer takes place from continues phase to dispersed phase. Experimental data involves drop size distributions and operating conditions andconcentration in both phases. For calculating overall mass transfer coefficient for drops the handlos and Baron Model was used. The axial dispersion...

By combustion, waste toxic, flammable and corrosive materials are changed to less inviromental problems by combustion. It also creats environmental problems (the most serios problem is caused by burning gases), as well as economic resources are wasted. So several ways was investigated to reduce combustion gases. Mini-methanol plant is one of varios possible ways that can convert these gases in to methanol. So methanol plant was simulated and then pinch analysis was performed on the simulated plant. Performing of pinch analysis caused 94.5 percent and 25 percent reduction in amaunt of hot and cold utility respectively. Before and after pinch analysis, the exergy analysis was performed on...

A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for the Degree of Master of Science in Electrical Engineering

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khodabandeh, Masih (Author) ; Zolghadri, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis a novel T type scheme for direct ac/ac converters is proposed. In this topology, frequency changing takes place directly (without common DC voltage bus) through three converters that are connected in a T structure. H-bridge converters are implemented in each branches of T to make the proposed converter. Also, multilevel inverters, specially cascaded H-bridge ones can be used in branches of T. this will lead to a multilevel ac/ac converter that is suitable for high power applications such as intertie connections and high power motor drives. Using half-bridge converters as T branch converters, leads to an ac/ac converter with unity power factor by only six semiconductor...

    Abstract
In this paper a novel T type scheme for 1-phase direct ac/ac converters is proposed. In this topology, frequency changing takes place directly (without common DC voltage bus) through three converters that are connected in a T structure. Unity power factor and precise output voltage regulation is achieved through appropriate control of these three converters. H-bridge converters are implemented, as the basic unit, in each branches of T to make the proposed converter. The converter is controlled such that the average active power of each H-bridges remains zero. So capacitors are implemented in DC links of H-bridges. In comparison to conventional back-to-back converters, life time of each...

    Abstract
The unique plasmonic character of silver and gold nanoparticles has a wide range of applications, and tailoring this property by changing electronic and geometric structures has received a great deal of attention. Herein, we study the role of the quantum properties in controlling the plasmonic excitations of gold and silver atomic chains and rods. The influence of relativistic effects, scalar as well as spin-orbit, on the intensity and energy of plasmonic excitations is investigated. The intensity quenching and the red shift of energy in the presence of relativistic effects are introduced via the appearance of d orbitals directly in optical excitations in addition to the screening of...

    Abstract
One of the recently proposed strategies in health systems is providing services to patients at home and improving the service quality in addition to reducing the health system costs. In the real world, some services, such as biological tests or blood sampling, force the nurses to start or end his/her route from/at the laboratory instead of the depot, changing the whole optimal planning. The effect of these special service requirements and features has not been considered so far. In this study, a new mathematical model is suggested considering the flexibility of starting/ending places of each nurse’s route according to the specific characteristics of each service. Then, several sets of...

Home health care is one of the newest methods of providing services to patients in developed societies that can respond to the individual lifestyle of the modern age and increase of life expectancy. In this study, a new mathematical model is developed taking into account the flexibility of starting and ending locations of each nurse, according to the specific requirements of each service. In this context, there are some special services that require the picking of materials and health equipment from laboratory or force the nurse to return to laboratory to deliver the specimens and equipment. In the next step, this model is expanded to downgrading aspects by adding the objective of minimizing...

On the complexity of isoperimetric problems on trees [electronic resource]

, Article Discrete Applied Mathematics ; Volume 160 Issue 1-2, January, 2012 Pages 116-131 Daneshgar, A. (Amir) ; Javadi, Ramin ; Sharif Univercity of Technology
    Abstract
This paper is aimed at investigating some computational aspects of different isoperimetric problems on weighted trees. In this regard, we consider different connectivity parameters called minimum normalized cuts/isoperimetric numbers defined through taking the minimum of the maximum or the mean of the normalized outgoing flows from a set of subdomains of vertices, where these subdomains constitute a partition/subpartition. We show that the decision problem for the case of taking k-partitions and the maximum (called the max normalized cut problem NCP^M), and the other two decision problems for the mean version (referred to as IPP^m and NCP^m) are NP-complete problems for weighted trees. On...

    Abstract
In this study, a novel T-type topology for single-phase direct AC/AC conversion is proposed. In this topology, frequency changing takes place directly (without common DC voltage bus) through three converters that are connected in a T structure. Unity input power factor and precise output voltage and frequency regulation is achieved through appropriate control of these three converters. H-bridge converters can be used in each branch of T to make the proposed converter. The converter is controlled such that the average active power of each H-bridge remains zero. Therefore, capacitors are implemented in DC links of H-bridges. Moreover, using half-bridge converters, instead of H-bridge ones, for...

    Abstract
Cascaded H-bridge converter has been utilized recently in different high-power applications due to its modular and simple structure. In order to have a balanced operation after a fault occurrence in this converter, it is necessary to detect the switch fault and its location. In this paper, a fast power-switch fault detection method is presented to identify a fault and its location. Only one voltage measurement per phase is required by this method, and the fault detection is faster compared to the existing methods. Moreover, it is suitable for implementation on an FPGA device due to the use of simple math, relational, and state machine blocks. The proposed method is verified by computer...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khodabandeh, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Sameti, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Bahrani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Automatic recognition of musical Maqams has been one of the challenging problems in Music Information Retrieval. Despite the increasing amount of related research in recent years, we are still far away from building related real-life applications. Nevertheless, a very small portion of these research is dedicated to automatic recognition of Maqams in recitation of the Holy Quran. In this thesis, as a first attempt, we have used machine learning methods to classify six Maqam families which are commonly used in Quran recitation. Also, due to the lack of pre-exisiting datasets, we have annotated approximately 1325 minutes of Tadwir recitation from two prominent Egyptian reciters, i.e., Muhammad...

    Abstract
An effective semi-classical method is introduced for controlling the high-order harmonic generation process and extending the cutoff frequency. This method is capable of defining the proper specification of the driving laser for maximizing the cutoff frequency. This method is evaluated by examining the high harmonic spectrum from the hydrogen atom and the fluorine (F2) molecule irradiated by single-, two-, and three-color laser fields. This study is done using the time-dependent density functional theory in a three-dimensional space. The results show that the single-, two-, and three-color laser pulses tuned by proper specifications could extend the cutoff frequency by up to 85%, 176%, and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khodabandeh Yalabadi, Ali (Author) ; Shadrokh, Shahram (Supervisor) ; Khedmati, Majid (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, researchers working on classifiers which are designed to predict minority class. In this work, we attempt to improve fraud detection performance, with minimum possible complexity. In this regard, by incrementing model sensitivity to minority class samples, we solve the problem of model ignorance to these instances. Moreover, by using clustering, we cluster similar inputs based on their features, and split each class to smaller bins. Then with considering the fact that, prediction probability threshold influences the final performance, we define statistical hypothesis testing exclusively for each cluster to evaluate predictions with expected range. In this method, model is not...
