Abstract
The present study evaluates the application of top-down steel demand estimation in developing countries. The anticipated steel demand for the case of Iran is calculated by three methods, including the growth model (GM), the intensity of use hypothesis (IUH), and the fixed stock paradigm (FCP). GM shows a broad range of apparent steel demand based on the assumed growth factor. When the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita reaches 13,000 dollars per person (constant 2010 US$), the IUH method estimates the consumption peak consumption at around 500 kg steel per capita per year, which is being expected between 2040 and 2060 depending on the economic growth assumptions. In this study the dynamic responses of finite Euler-Bernoulli beams and homogeneous isotropic 2D half-spaces, as one and two dimensional structures, under a moving object are investigated. First, the dynamic responses of finite beams with various boundary conditions were investigated. The results illustrated that the speed of a moving mass has direct influence on the entire structural dynamic response, depending on its boundary conditions. In this study, hot press method has been used to fabricate Al/Al3Ti composite. In situ reacted Al3Ti compound is formed through Al and TiO2 powder blend in order to enhance mechanical properties and mainly wear resistance. After homogeneous blending of Al and TiO2, hot pressing was performed at 580 °C at different durations and pressures. Scanning electron microscopy was used for microstructural survey. Density measurements using Archmede's method and Brinell hardness test were carried out for all the samples. Abstract
Modified couple stress theory is a size-dependent theorem capturing the micro/nanoscale effects influencing the mechanical behaviors of the micro- and nanostructures. In this paper, it is applied to investigate the nonlinear vibration of carbon nanotubes under step DC voltage. The vibration, natural frequencies and dynamic pull-in characteristics of the carbon nanotubes are studied in detail. Moreover, the effects of various boundary conditions and geometries are scrutinized on the dynamic characteristics. The results reveal that application of this theory leads to the higher values of the natural frequencies and dynamic pull-in voltages
