    Abstract
    A5/1 is the strong version of the encryption algorithm on GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) used in many countries. It is constructed of a combination of three LFSRs (Linear Feedback Shift Registers) with irregular clocking manner. One of the most practical attacks against this algorithm is time-memory trade-off attack, which is based on birthday paradox. The goal of this attack is to find any intersection between precomputed LFSRs states set and set of states generating the output bits in the actual execution of the algorithm.     Abstract
    We present a study of the Fundamental Plane (FP) for a sample of 71 dwarf galaxies in the core of the Coma cluster in the magnitude range -21 < M I < -15. Taking advantage of the high-resolution DEIMOS spectrograph on Keck II for measuring the internal velocity dispersion of galaxies and high-resolution imaging of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST)/ACS, which allows an accurate surface brightness modelling, we extend the FP of galaxies to luminosities of ~1 mag fainter than all the previous studies of the FP in the Coma cluster. We find that the scatter about the FP depends on the faint-end luminosity cut-off, such that the scatter increases for fainter galaxies. The residual from the FP...

    Abstract
    One of the main properties of digital watermarking methods is their security against attacks. In this paper, a novel attack against an adaptive semi-fragile image watermarking is proposed. In this attack, watermarking key and watermark are estimated by using several watermarked images. In order to improve the watermarking scheme against the proposed attack, the entropy of image blocks is utilized. Using entropy is compatible with Human Visual System (HVS); therefore it is suitable to determine the weight of watermark in image blocks.     Abstract
    One of the main properties of semi-fragile image watermarking methods is robustness against lossy compressions, e.g. JPEG conversion. In this paper, robustness of a semi-fragile watermarking scheme based on DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform), coupled with SVD (Singular Value Decomposition), is improved. To achieve this goal a traditional, critically sampled wavelet transform is replaced by a redundant wavelet transform. The proposed approach is compared to the DWT-SVD based watermarking, introduced earlier, and significantly greater robustness under the JPEG compression is presented. ©2008 IEEE

    Abstract
    We study the volume averaging of inhomogeneous metrics within GR and discuss its shortcomings, such as gauge dependence, singular behavior as a result of caustics, and causality violations. To remedy these shortcomings, we suggest some modifications to this method. As a case study we focus on the inhomogeneous structured FRW model based on a flat LTB metric. The effect of averaging is then studied in terms of an effective backreaction fluid. It is shown that, contrary to the claims in the literature, the backreaction fluid behaves like a dark matter component, instead of dark energy, having a density of the order of 10-5 times the matter density, and, most importantly, it is gauge-dependent.... 

    Scaling Relations in Dwarf Galaxies of the Coma Cluster of Galaxies

    Abstract
    We study the fundamental and the photometric plane of a sample of 50 dwarf galaxies within the core of Coma cluster observed with DEIMOS on Keck II down to R-band luminosity of -15 Magnitudes. The Calcium triplet lines in the wavelength range between 7500 to 10,000 ˚A, allow us to obtain the velocity dispersion for the sample galaxies with high precision. We also performed a comprehensive error analysis to better estimate the uncertainties of this key observable. We also carried out a galaxy structure modeling using the ACS I-band images for a larger sample.     Abstract
    We present the study of a large sample of early-type dwarf galaxies in the Coma cluster observed with DEIMOS on the Keck II to determine their internal velocity dispersion. We focus on a subsample of 41 member dwarf elliptical galaxies for which the velocity dispersion can be reliably measured, 26 of which were studied for the first time. The magnitude range of our sample is -21 < M R < -15mag. This paper (Paper I) focuses on the measurement of the velocity dispersion and their error estimates.     Abstract
    We present a new high signal-to-noise ratio spectroscopic survey of the Northern hemisphere to probe the Local Bubble and its surroundings using the λ5780Å and λ5797Å diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs). We observed 432 sightlines to a distance of 200 pc over a duration of three years. In this study, we establish the λ5780 and λ5797 correlations with Na I, Ca II and EB-V, for both inside and outside the Local Bubble. The correlations show that among all neutral and ionized atoms, the correlation between Ca ii and λ5780 is stronger than its correlation with λ5797, suggesting that λ5780 is more associated with regions where Ca+ is more abundant.     Four 5-, 10-, 20- and 30-story moment frames, representing low-, mid-, and two high-rise structures, were subjected to a great number of idealized directivity pulses. The amplitudes and periods of pulses vary from 0.02 g to 1.0 g and 0.5 to 12 sec, respectively. Over 1400 nonlinear dynamic analyses of low- to high-rise moment frames were performed which were feasible through using modified fish-bone model. The distribution of interstory drift along the height was studied and two applied contours were proposed: (i) the maximum interstory drift contour, and (ii) the critical story contour.     In this article singular points of a parallel manipulator are obtained based on a novel geometrical method. Here we introduce the constrained plain method (CPM) and some of its application in parallel mechanism. Given the definition of constraint plane (CP) and infinite constraint plane (ICP) the dependency conditions of constraints is achieved with the use of a new theorem based on the Ceva geometrical theorem.     An analytical model is proposed to study the effect of particle size on melting enthalpy and entropy of metallic nanoparticles (NPs). The Mott's and Regel's equations for melting entropy in the combination of core average coordination number (CAC) and surface average coordination number (SAC) of freestanding NPs are considered.     Grinding is widely used for manufacturing of components that require fine surface finish and good dimensional accuracy. In this study a thermo-mechanical finite element analysis is conducted to find out how grinding parameters can affect temperature and residual stress distribution in the workpiece. Results of parametric study presented in this work indicate, by carefully selecting the grinding parameters, minimum thermal and mechanical damage can be achieved. Higher workpiece velocities produce higher surface residual stress. By increasing depths of cut, depth of tensile residual stresses increases.     Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a well-known technique for background noise reduction in automobile and vehicular environments. The noise fields in automobile and other vehicle interior obey the diffuse noise field model closely. On the other hand, the ANC does not provide sufficient noise reduction in the diffuse noise fields.     Abstract
    Shot peening is widely used to improve the fretting fatigue strength of critical surfaces. Fretting fatigue occurs in contacting parts that are subjected to fluctuating loads and sliding movements at the same time. This paper presents a sequential finite element simulation to investigate the shot peening effects on normal stress, shear stress, bulk stress and slip amplitude, which are considered to be the controlling parameters of fretting damage. The results demonstrated that among the modifications related to shot peening, compressive residual stress has a dominant effect on the fretting parameters

    One-dimensional (1D) MgO structures were successfully synthesized via carbothermic reduction of mechanically activated mixture of MgO and graphite. Mechanical activation of source materials before carbothermic reduction can substantially enhance the formation of MgO products at a temperature (1000 °C) relatively lower than that required in previous approaches (≥1200 °C). However, the morphology of MgO formed is dependent on the degree of mechanical activation and the condition of the subsequent carbothermic reduction.     Characterization and calcination behavior of a low-grade manganese ore, as a part of Mn ferroalloys production, was studied by XRF, ex-situ XRD, in-situ XRD, and SEM-EDS techniques. Calcination experiments were carried out at and up to 900 °C (1173 K) in air and argon atmospheres. The samples were in particles and powder forms. The results indicated that both quartz and calcite phases in the ore exhibit a bimodal spatial distribution; as relatively large regions and finely distributed in the Mn- and Fe-containing phases.
