, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saghafi, Fariborz (Supervisor)
Abstract
Using unmanned aerial vehicles in aerial payload carrying leads many changes requiring significant study and research. In recent years, there has been considerable maturation in Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAV) developement especially quadcopters. In addition to the endurance restriction, considerations on volume and weight that can be carried, and safety issues are also obstacles to the development of unmanned aerial payload carrying in urban environments. One of the ways to make a quadcopter more agile while carrying a load is to hang the cargo from the quadcopter via a cable. In this way, it is possible that quadcopters carry the cargo in a cooperative way, which if properly arranged,...

Abstract
This paper presents a new model for simulating delamination growth in composites in presence of the resistance curve (R-curve) effects. This model is extended from the interface thick level set (ITLS) method which is developed recently. In this approach the common definition of damage in the constitutive relationship of the interface elements is replaced with a new damage definition based on the thick level set (TLS) method. This new damage definition provides a direct link between fracture and damage mechanics that allows use of interface elements without a predefined cohesive law. In this paper the ITLS method is adopted to incorporate the R-curve effects caused by extended bridging, in...

Abstract
Catalytic studies were performed to develop a simple oxidation system for olefins and sulfides using manganese(III)-tridentate Schiff base complex, Mn(N-OPh-sal)(acac)(EtOH) (N-HOPh-Hsal = N-hydroxyphenyl-salicyldienamine, Hacac = acetylacetone), and urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) as terminal oxidant. Conversions up to 90% for olefins at 0 °C and 96% for sulfides at room temperature as well as sulfoxide selectivity up to 73% were achieved in short reaction times. Also this study confirms the accelerating effect of strong π-donor axial ligands such as imidazole (ImH) on the oxidation reactions. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

Abstract
A type II (eoe: extraordinary-ordinary-extraordinary) phase matching condition in a 2nd Harmonic Generation of Nd-YAG laser under a high electric field in a uniaxial KDP crystal has been measured. Type II phase matching takes place when the two mixing waves are of orthogonal polarizations (extraordinary-ordinary) and the 2nd harmonic radiation corresponds to an extraordinary wave. By applying an electric field along the X(Y) axes of the crystal, a new phase-matching angle was measured under the influence of different electric fields. The deflection angle of the SHG beam was measured as a function of the applied voltage. An optical collector will focus the 1st harmonic and a fraction of its...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salehi, Mohammad Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of the optimized conditional source-term estimation approach. This model was first implemented in a computational fluid dynamics code, and then the Bernstein expansion was used to optimize it. For validation, two pre-mixed turbulent flames with different turbulence intensity and equivalence ratios were modeled with the optimized and RANS model. The results were obtained for mass fraction of the main and intermediate species, velocity and temperature examined in different sections. In the first flame, the turbulence intensity is low, and the flame is in the flamelet regimes; As a result, the results obtained with the optimized model are...
Origin of the correlation of the rate constant of substrate hydroxylation by nonheme iron(IV)-oxo complexes with the bond-dissociation energy of the C-H bond of the substrate

Abstract
Mononuclear nonheme iron containing systems are versatile and vital oxidants of substrate hydroxylation reactions in many biosystems, whereby the rate constant of hydroxylation correlates with the strength of the C-H bond that is broken in the process. The thermodynamic reason behind these correlations, however, has never been established. In this work results of a series of density functional theory calculations of substrate hydroxylation by a mononuclear nonheme iron(IV)-oxo oxidant with a 2 His/ 1Asp structural motif analogous to aketoglutarate dependent dioxygenases are presented. The calculations show that these oxidants are very efficient and able to hydroxylate strong C-H bonds,...

Abstract
A new magnetic, catalytic nanocomposite of Hal-MT-Cys-Ag/MNCD was fabricated and utilized for catalyzing reductive de-colorization of methyl orange and rhodamin B in aqueous media at room temperature. To prepare this material, Cl-functionalized halloysite nanoclay was successively reacted with melamine and 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine to furnish multi-nitrogen containing ligand on halloysite surface. Then, magnetic carbon dots were crafted through a facile method and decorated with Ag nanoparticles and cysteine to furnish Cys-Ag/MNCD species. The final nanocomposite was obtained via incorporation of this latter species onto functionalized halloysite. This new composite was characterized...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Soltanian-Zadeh, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Abnormality detection and prognosis of epileptic patients with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques is still in its early experimental stages. Surgical candidacy determination for epilepsy depends on the clinical actions which involve an intracranial electrode implantation followed by prolonged electrographic monitoring (EEG phase II) .This invasive test is very costly, painful and time consuming. Here the goal is integration of the two following paradigms: 1-Non invasive multimodality data of epilepsy. 2- Artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. We have used human brain multi-modality database system that includes patient’s demographics, clinical and EEG...

Abstract
In recent years, Wireless Ad-hoc networks have been considered as one of the most important technologies. The application domains of Wireless Ad-hoc Networks gain more and more importance in many areas. One of them is controlling and management the packet traffic. In this paper our goal is controlling the performance of every sections of pipeline of the factory by checking network periodically. Along the factory the traffic is modeled with a Poisson process. We present, with obtaining traffic packets at time (t) for each node in Wireless Ad-hoc Network, we can completely train a Neural Network and successfully predict the traffic at time (t+1) for each node. By this way we can recognize the...

Abstract
Three different spinel metal oxide catalytic systems including NiFe2O4, CuFe2O4 and CoFe2O4 were synthesized using co-precipitation technique and their catalytic activities were compared to each other in α-arylation of oxindole derivatives under the optimized reaction conditions. Both nickel ferrite and copper ferrite magnetic nanoparticles show approximately the same behavior in these reactions but cobalt ferrite ones indicate slightly different properties and were not as good as the other two catalysts. These superparamagnetic catalysts allowed that α-arylation of different types of oxindoles will occur in high yields under mild conditions and at very short times

Abstract
A new efficient catalytic system was investigated for the epoxidation of various olefins by cis-dioxo-bis[2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)-oxazolinato]molybdenum(VI), cis-[MoO2(phox)2], and TBHP as oxidizing agent. Using this system as catalyst for the oxidation of aliphatic substrates at 80 °C gives the epoxide as the sole product with yields up to 100% and turnover frequency up to 5000 h-1. The efficiency of the catalyst is strongly influenced by the nature of solvent, reaction time and temperature, and a significant increase in the epoxide yields is observed in higher temperatures and longer reaction times. © 2009 Elsevier B.V

Abstract
Many mobile applications running on smartphones and wear- able devices would potentially benefit from the accuracy and scalability of deep CNN-based machine learning algorithms. However, performance and energy consumption limitations make the execution of such computationally intensive algorithms on mobile devices prohibitive. We present a GPU- accelerated library, dubbed CNNdroid [1], for execution of trained deep CNNs on Android-based mobile devices. Empirical evaluations show that CNNdroid achieves up to 60X speedup and 130X energy saving on current mobile devices. The CNNdroid open source library is available for download at https://github.com/ENCP/CNNdroid

Abstract
This paper addresses a bi-level mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model for the competitive facility location problem in a closed-loop supply chain (CLSC), in which a firm (i.e., leader) aims at entering a market by locating new distribution and collection facilities, where a competitor (i.e., follower) already exists. The goal is to find the location and attractiveness of each facility going to be established by the leader who seeks to maximize its profit while also taking the follower's response into account. The attractiveness of each facility is a function of integer variables related to the facility's characteristics. Customer behavior is considered to be probabilistic based...

Abstract
A different approach in the calculation of two-dimensional local density of states has been presented for a two-dimensional finite rectangular-lattice photonic crystal with a separable profile of permittivity. Approximate staircase structures are already shown to be useful for their ability to reproduce actual properties of practical square lattice photonic crystals. Using the effective resonance approach in a Fabry-Perot resonator and transfer matrix method an analytical expression for calculating a two-dimensional local density of states can be derived for both polarisations in the structure. It is shown that for this geometry one can resolve the modes as a product of two separate...

Abstract
Novel molybdenum complex, cis-[MoO2(phox)2] has been synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, elemental analyses (CHN), and X-ray molecular structure determination methods. This complex was found to be an efficient, selective catalyst for the oxidation of various sulfides to sulfoxides with urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in excellent yields (100% for diallylsulfide) and short reaction times (20 min) at room temperature. The catalytic system oxidizes diallylsulfide chemoselectively to its corresponding sulfoxide without any over oxidation in double bond. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
Rcci Curvature for Metric-Measure Space via Optimal Transport
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahraini, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Ranjbar Motlagh, Alireza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
One of the important questions in mathematics is generalized. In case of metric spaces, one of the questions is: Can we extend notions of Riemannian geometry to arbitrary metric spaces smoothly? Ricci curvature is one of the most important concepts in differential geometry. Ricci curvature is defined for the Riemannian manifold and has many applications in mathematics and physics like Einstein’s equation in relativity theory. There is a good notion for a metric space having “sectional curvature bounded below by K” or “sectional curvature bounded above by K”, due to Alexandrov. Can we define the concept of Ricci curvature in metric space? A motivation for this question comes from Gromov’s...

Seismic design codes reduce loads by using response modification factor. Because of the reserved strength in structural elements and capacity of structure to dissipate energy, structures can be designed for lower seismic loads. This factor has modified over time. In this thesis, the effect of the reduction in behavior factor on the response of two kinds of reinforced concrete systems were evaluated. Moment resisting frames and dual systems with different heights and regularity in plan, heve been design according to the behavior factor which is recommended in the 3rd edition of the Iranian codes of practice for seismic resistance design of buildings (Standard No. 2800). Drift and...
