, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mardani Boldaji, Fatemeh (Author) ; Taghipoor, Mojtaba (Supervisor) ; Hosseini, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Droplet microfluidic platform generates monodisperse droplets in a desired size through immiscible multiphase flows inside microchannels. Droplets are individual reactor and can be used for bio(chemical) analyses. Also, for materials fabrication, droplet microfluidics offers a versatile platform for generation of nano- or micro-sized particles and microcapsules that are widely used in drug delivery. In addition to the monodispersity, high-throughput generation is also necessary in many applications. Therefore, droplets must be formed in stable regimes (dripping and squeezing) in the highest possible frequency. In this study, the flow-focusing geometry, which is the most common geometry in...

Synthesis and characterization of poly(methacrylates) containing spiroacetal and norbornene moieties in side chain [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 77, Issue 1, pages 30–38, 5 July 2000 Pourdjavadi, A. (Ali) ; Mirjalili, Bibi Fatemeh ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A four-step synthetic strategy was applied to achieve novel methacrylic monomers. 5-Norbornene-2,2-dimethanol was prepared from a Diels–Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene and acrolein, followed by the treatment of the adduct with an HCHO/KOH/MeOH solution. The resulting 1,3-diol (1) was then acetalized with different aromatic aldehydes having OH groups on the ring to produce four spiroacetal derivatives. The reaction of methacryloyl chloride with the phenolic derivatives led to four new methacrylic monomers that were identified spectrochemically (mass, FTIR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopy). Free radical solution polymerization was used to prepare novel spiroacetal–norbornene containing...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fatemeh Tabatabaei (Author) ; Koohi, Sommaye (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Based on the importance of DNA/RNA binding proteins in different cellular processes, finding binding sites of them play crucial role in many applications, like designing drug/vaccine, designing protein, and cancer control. Many studies target this issue and try to improve the prediction accuracy with three strategies: complex neural-network structures, various types of inputs, and ML methods to extract input features. But due to the growing volume of sequences, these methods face serious processing challenges. So, this paper presents KDeep, based on CNN-LSTM and the primary form of DNA/RNA sequences as input. As the key feature improving the prediction accuracy, we propose a new encoding...

    , Article Fuel ; Volume 191 , 2017 , Pages 114-129 ; 00162361 (ISSN) Mardani, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2017
    Abstract
Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution (MILD) combustion which known as a combustion under highly preheated and diluted condition is a relatively new combustion regime including many differences in comparison with the traditional one. Among many distinguished disparities between combustion modeling of conventional and MILD ones, turbulent-chemistry interaction modeling is an open field of study. Current knowledge on modeling this combustion regime shows that the eddy dissipation concept (EDC) model could be successfully used for modeling of this combustion regime. In this paper, it has been tried to propose some guidelines to modify the semi-empirical constants of the original EDC model for...

    , Article Journal of the Japan Petroleum Institute ; Volume 56, Issue 3 , 2013 , Pages 142-149 ; 13468804 (ISSN) Safian Boldaji, M ; Shahri, M. P ; Zargartalebi, M ; Arabloo, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
A fundamental chemical enhanced oil recovery (EOR) process is surfactant flooding in which the key mechanism is to reduce interfacial tension between oil and the displacing fluid and hence mobilizing the trapped oil. Surfactant loss by adsorption is one of the most important criteria that governs the economics of the surfactant flooding methods. In addition to this, detrimental effects and high price of currently used surfactants cause EOR process so expensive and unfeasible. This study is aimed to introduce a novel kind of plant based surfactant which is extracted from Zizyphus Spina-Christi tree. In addition, equilibrium adsorption behavior of this novel biosurfactant in aqueous solution...

Data-Driven Pricing Based on Demand Prediction Using Machine Learning Methods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khosroshahi, Fatemeh Zahra (Author) ; Sedghi, Nafiseh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Pricing plays an important and essential role in the profit and income of companies. The importance of pricing is not only related to its role in the company's profitability, but it also changes the customer's understanding and loyalty towards the company and can create the company's reputation or destroy it. Determining the right price will increase product sales and increase customer loyalty and create a competitive advantage for the company. One of the most important and influential variables in product pricing is the amount of demand. The main challenge of companies for product pricing is the uncertainty in their demand. In order to deal with this problem, data-driven pricing is used....

Design of Low-Power Zero Temperature Coefficient (ZTC) CMOS Oscillators

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahidani, Mohammad Aref (Author) ; Akbar, Fatemeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The increasing demand for autonomous vehicles and reliable communication protocols and hardware interfaces, such as CAN bus and USB, underscores the necessity for stable clock sources that maintain a low temperature coefficient (TC) over wide temperature ranges. This demand is particularly emphasized in applications such as wearables, network sensors, downhole devices, WSNs, and IoT, where long-lasting battery life and frequency-stable clock sources over a broad temperature range (e.g. -20 °C to 100 °C) are crucial. Traditionally, variations in frequency caused by temperature have been mitigated by employing off-chip components like crystals or ceramic based oscillators, but this approach...

Design of Low Power Harmonic Rejection Mixer for Wideband Application

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafarpour Dahaghani, Reza (Author) ; Akbar, Fatemeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The increasing demand for communication bandwidth and limited spectrum availability have heightened the complexity of radio front-end circuits in IoT applications. Achieving spectral efficiency is a key challenge, particularly for IoT devices operating at specific frequency bands such as 315 MHz, 433 MHz, 868 MHz, and 915 MHz.Due to the limited linearity of the transmit path, harmonic distortion components, known as counter intermodulation (CIM) products, are generated. These CIM products can directly fall into the receiver (RX) band or enter it via cross-modulation, thereby degrading the frequency division performance. Additionally, CIM products can interfere with protected bands, violating...

    Abstract
In this article, NO production mechanisms for CH 4-H 2 combustion under MILD (moderate or intense low-oxygen dilution) conditions are studied using CDF and also zero-dimensional well stirred reactor (WSR) analysis. A H 2/CH 4 jet into a heated and diluted coflow is modeled in CFD analysis. The RANS equations with modified k equations are solved in an axisymmetric 2D computational domain. The GRI2.11 full mechanism is considered to represent the chemical reactions. The effects of oxidizer oxygen concentration, fuel hydrogen content, and fuel jet Reynolds number are studied on NO formation reactions. Results show that the measurements are predicted with an acceptable accuracy. The NNH and N 2O...

An accurate guidance algorithm for implementation onboard satellite launch vehicles

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 2 D , JULY-DECEMBE , 2010 , Pages 175-188 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Mardani, M ; Mobed, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
An algorithm for guiding a launch vehicle carrying a small satellite to a sun synchronous LEO is presented. Before the launch, a nominal path and the corresponding nominal control law for the entire journey are computed. For each sampling instant during the guided flight, a linear equation approximately relating the differences between the actual and nominal values is considered, and a LeastSquares formula using data from on-line state measurements is applied to compute the actual control. The coefficient matrices of the Least-Squares formula can be determined by off-line computations. The method enjoys simplicity of implementation by onboard computers, as well as robust accuracy against...

    Abstract
In this paper, turbulent non-premixed CH4+H2 jet flame issuing into a hot and diluted co-flow air is studied numerically. This flame is under condition of the moderate or intense low-oxygen dilution combustion regime and related to published experimental data. The modelling is carried out using the EDC model to describe turbulence-chemistry interaction. The DRM-22 reduced mechanism and the GRI2.11 full mechanism are used to represent the chemical reactions of H2/methane jet flame. The flame structure for various O2 levels and jet Reynolds numbers are investigated. The results show that the flame entrainment increases by a decrease in O2 concentration at air side or jet Reynolds number. Local...

Numerical investigation of supercritical combustion of H2-O2

    American Chemical Society  2018
    Abstract
This study investigates GH2/LOX coaxial jet flame at trans- and supercritical conditions using the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes approach. Four two-equation-turbulence models, three real equation of states, two chemical mechanisms, and three different chamber pressures are examined. Predictions show good agreement with measurements qualitatively and quantitatively. Based on the results, the predictions of the Soave-Redlich-Kwong equation of state (EOS) are closer to the experiment, while the Aungier-Redlich-Kwong EOS has more deviation than the others. Moreover, the k-ω shear stress transport model has better performance than the other turbulence models. It is also found that the flow...

Numerical assessment of MILD combustion enhancement through plasma actuator

    , Article Energy ; Volume 183 , 2019 , Pages 172-184 ; 03605442 (ISSN) Mardani, A ; Khanehzar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2019
    Abstract
One promising solution to achieve moderate or intense low-oxygen dilution (MILD) combustion under lower temperatures may be using non-equilibrium plasma discharge. Plasma assisted combustion can extend the flammability limits by reducing the auto-ignition temperature of the reactants and can be a great approach to achieve steady MILD combustion under extreme conditions through decreasing ignition delay time. In particular, the influence of the outlet flows from a co-flowing cylindrical dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) on the CH4/N2 combustion under MILD combustion has been investigated numerically through some simplifications on plasma discharge. A three streams coaxial burner are modeled...

Estimation of marginal cost function using bid price and quantity to power market

    , Article 2008 IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference - Energy Innovation, Vancouver, BC, 6 October 2008 through 7 October 2008 ; 2008 ; 9781424428953 (ISBN) Mardani, H ; Souri, D ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
A major challenge for designers of competitive electricity markets is to devise market rules that limit the capability of electricity producers to exercise market power. Market power is the ability of a firm owning generation assets to raise the market price by its bidding behavior and to profit from this price increase. In addition, an important plan of market monitoring units in long term and competition policy framework is to persuade the participants to bid prices near to their marginal costs. Therefore, estimation of marginal cost function is important in way that Regulatory use it to increase competition in electricity markets. Bid price of the power plant to the power market contains...
