    Effect of leading-edge roughness on boundary layer transition of an oscillating airfoil

    Abstract
    A series of experiments were conducted to study the effect of leading-edge roughness on the state of the boundary layer of a wind turbine blade section using multiple hot-film sensors. The experiments involved static and dynamic tests, where airfoil motion was of plunging type oscillation. The application of surface grit roughness simulates surface irregularities that occur on the wind turbine blades. The measurements showed that increasing the angle of attack results in movement of transition locations toward the leading edge. Surface roughness moved the transition point toward the leading edge and caused early trailing edge turbulent separation, which resulted in reducing the effectiveness...

    Abstract
    In this paper, different physical differential equations related to heat transfer and shear deformation of beams are solved by new but powerful analytical methods: Liao's Homotopy method (H.M), Homotopy method with Pade approximation and the He's Homotopy-Perturbation Method (HPM). Nonlinear convective-radiative cooling equation, nonlinear heat equation with cubic nonlinearity and the shear deformation of sandwich beams are used as examples to illustrate the solution procedures. Comparison of the applied methods with exact solutions reveals that both methods are greatly effective

    Abstract
    Extensive tests were carried out on a section of a wind turbine blade. The effect of reduced frequency on the boundary layer transition point of the model oscillating in plunge has been investigated. The spatial-temporal progressions of the transition point and the state of the unsteady boundary layer were measured using multiple hot-film sensors. The measurements showed that reduced frequency highly affects variations of the transition point and results in a hysteresis loop in the dynamic transition locations. The dominated frequencies of the boundary layer are found to be a function of the reduced frequency and mean angle of attack

    Abstract
    A series of low speed wind tunnel tests were conducted to study the unsteady aerodynamic behavior of an airfoil sinusoidally oscillating in plunge. The experiments included measuring the surface pressure distribution over a range of reduced frequencies, k = 0.03 - 0.06. In addition, steady state data were acquired and were used to furnish a baseline for further analysis and comparison. The model was oscillated with amplitude of ±15 cm and at three different mean angles of attack of 0, 10° and 18°.     An extensive experimental investigation to study the effect of the reduced frequency and surface grit roughness on an airfoil oscillating in plunging motion has been conducted. The application of surface grit roughness simulates surface irregularities that occur on the wind turbine blades.     Abstract
    In this study, we applied the homotopy perturbation (HP) method for solving linear and nonlinear fourth-order boundary value problems. The analytical results of the boundary value problems have been obtained in terms of a convergent series with easily computable components. Comparisons between the results of the HP method and the analytical solution showed that this method gives very precise results with a few terms. In the implied HP method, some unknown parameters in the initial guess are introduced, which are identified after applying boundary conditions.     This is an experimental study on the boundary layer over an airfoil under steady and unsteady conditions. It specifically deals with the effect of plunging oscillation on the laminar/turbulent characteristics of the boundary layer. The wind tunnel measurements involved surface-mounted hot-film sensors and boundary-layer rake.     Abstract
    This investigation addresses the boundary layer study of a plunging airfoil. It specifically concerns the effect of reduced frequency on transition and separation/reattachment of the unsteady boundary layer. The wind tunnel measurements were conducted using multiple hot-film sensors, pressure transducers and a boundary-layer rake, at Reynolds numbers of 0.42 to 0.84 million, and over reduced frequencies from 0.05 to 0.11. It was observed the boundary layer transition occurs by a laminar separation bubble. The unsteady laminar separation is promoted (delayed) by the increase of the reduced frequency in upstroke (downstroke) portion of the equivalent angle of attack

    Abstract
    The flow on a section of NACA 641-412 airfoil with right and inverse triangle shaped damage was numerically investigated. The flow through the damage was driven by the pressure differential between the upper and lower wing surfaces. The results showed that for both damage shapes the flows could be categorized as weak, transitional or strong jets. For both damage cases the jet exited from the rear of the damage and its size was determined by the width of the rear part of the hole. Generally, when compared with an undamaged model, increasing incidence for a damaged model resulted in increased loss of lift coefficient, increased drag coefficient and more negative pitching moment coefficient....

    We derive some bounds on the Optimum Asymptotic Multiuser Efficiency (OAME) of randomly spread CDMA as extensions of the result by Tse and Verdú. To this end, random Gaussian and random binary antipodal spreading are considered. Furthermore, the input signal is assumed to be Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK). It is shown that in a CDMA system with K-user and N chips when K and N → 8 and the loading factor, K over N, grows logarithmically with K, the OAME converges to 1 almost surely under some condition.
