Experimental Performance Analysis of Different Drill-in Fluids in Order to Reduce Formation Damage in Reservoir Sections

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Masoomi Azandaryani, Milad (Author) ; Goodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Formation damage is defined as any process that reduses the reservoir permeability relative to its normal state. Two major causes of this problem are filtrate and solid invasion into the pore spaces of reservoir rock. Therefore, the drilling fluid used for drilling the reservoir sections should prevent such a problem as much as possible. The goal of this study is to optimize the weighting additive particle size distribution to prevent permeability damage in one of the southern Iranian oil fields. By analizing the capillary pressure data of core samples, it seems that fracture presence in rock matrix leads to poor quality of mudcake, resulting peremabilty reduction in near wellbore region....

    Percolation on Small World Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Masoomi, Razie (Author) ; Moghimi Araghi, Saman (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Percolation is a phenomenon that can be found in many physical problems. Additionally, as a statistical model, it has a very rich physics, since many fundamental concepts in the context of critical phenomena and complex systems-such as phase transition, scaling laws etc can be found in the model. Percolation phenomenon can be defined on different lattices. In this thesis we study percolation on small-world networks. In small-world networks, in addition to local bonds that connects the neighbouring sites, there exist some long-ranged bonds that connect cites far from each other. Social networks, some networks of internet or the gene networks are examples of such networks. Therefore, to study...

Influence of earthquake record truncation on fragility curves of RC frames with different damage indices

    , Article Journal of Building Engineering ; Volume 7 , 2016 , Pages 23-30 ; 23527102 (ISSN) Khaloo, A ; Nozhati, S ; Masoomi, H ; Faghihmaleki, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Probabilistic seismic analysis of structures with incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) is a widely used method to offer comprehensive evaluation of the seismic performance of structures. Although IDA is a powerful computer-intensive method, it is really a time-consuming procedure. Accordingly, in this study, for coping with this problem, significant motion duration is used instead of total motion duration. This truncation can significantly reduce the computational effort and time. In order to determine the influence of truncation, fragility curves and their mean annual frequencies (MAF) in each limit state are used with two different damage indices, namely modified Park & Ang and maximum...

Surfactant effects on the particle size, zeta potential, and stability of starch nanoparticles and their use in a pH-responsive manner

    Abstract
Storage conditions seem to be important in the long-term stability of nanoparticles (NPs). This work studies the effects of surfactants and storage container on particle size distribution and zeta potential during long-term storage of acid hydrolyzed potato starch NPs. The NPs were prepared from potato starch using acid hydrolysis and high-intensity ultrasonication. During the ultrasonic treatment, the surfactants were added dropwise to the solutions to reduce the size and stabilize the formed NPs. Particle size distribution, zeta potential, and FE-SEM were used to characterize the ensuing NPs. Additionally, a 5-month stability study was performed to evaluate the maintenance of potato starch...

Does the short-term boost of renewable energies guarantee their stable long-term growth? Assessment of the dynamics of feed-in tariff policy

    Abstract
Feed-in tariff (FiT) is one of the most efficient ways that many governments throughout the world use to stimulate investment in renewable energies (REs) technology. For governments, financial management of the policy could be challenging as it needs a considerable amount of budget to support RE producers during the long remuneration period. In this paper, it has been illuminated that the early growth of REs capacity could be a temporary boost. And the socio-economic structure of the system will backlash the policy if some social mechanisms are not considered. Social tolerance for paying REs tax and potential investors’ trust emanated from budget-related mechanisms -which have rarely been...

Catalytic behavior of an iron(III) complex containing an N,O-type bidentate oxazoline ligand for selective oxidation of sulfides

    , Article Transition Metal Chemistry ; Volume 41, Issue 1 , 2016 , Pages 97-105 ; 03404285 (ISSN) Amini, M ; Khaksar, M ; Arab, A ; Masoomi Jahandizi, R ; Bagherzadeh, M ; Boghaei, D. M ; Ellern, A ; Keith Woo, L ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The reaction of Fe(acac)3 and 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)oxazoline (Hphox) as a bidentate O,N donor ligand afforded a six-coordinated iron(III) complex [Fe(phox)2(acac)] with distorted octahedral configuration. The complex was isolated as an air-stable crystalline solid and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, solution electrical conductivity, and by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. The structure, electronic properties, and vibrational normal modes of the complex were investigated by DFT. The use of this complex as a catalyst for the oxidation of sulfides to their corresponding sulfoxides using urea hydrogen peroxide as the primary oxidant was investigated. The catalyst shows very...

Structural characterization of a rhamnolipid-type biosurfactant produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa MR01: Enhancement of di-rhamnolipid proportion using gamma irradiation

    Abstract
We previously reported that MR01, an indigenous strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, was able to produce a rhamnolipid-type biosurfactant. Here, we attempted to define the structural properties of this natural product. The analysis of the extracted biosurfactant by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) revealed the presence of two compounds corresponding to those of authentic mono- and di-rhamnolipid. The identity of two structurally distinguished rhamnolipids was confirmed by 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) of extracted biosurfactant revealed up to seventeen different rhamnolipid congeners. Further quantification showed...
