Abstract
In this thesis, our aim is to simulate steady and transient operation of a turboshaft engine with a free power turbine. For better understanding of physics of the problem, nested loops method is used in order to simulate the steady state operation. Furthermore, methods based on steady operation are used in simulating transient behavior of the engine. Scaling methods are used to extract performance characteristics of the engine components. It is assumed that performance characteristics have similar behavior in high engine shaft speeds. Bearing this in mind, validity of our simulations are confined to such high shaft speed conditions. Abstract
In the present study, the mechanical properties of vertically aligned carbon nanotube (VACNT) arrays in the most general case of anisotropic elasticity is studied. To quantify the elastic stiffness coefficients, continuum mechanics is employed, in which the constitutive relation is formulized in terms of the interatomic potential obtained via molecular dynamics (MDs) simulations. Detailed investigations into elastic stiffness coefficients with different geometrical parameters are performed and, consequently, their sensitivity on length and radius parameters is hereby studied. To synthesize a novel biopolymer-based superabsorbent hydrogel, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) was grafted onto kappa-carrageenan (KC) backbones. The graft copolymerization reaction was carried out in a homogeneous medium and in the presence of ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator, N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl ethylenediamine (TMEDA) as an accelerator, and N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker. Abstract
The effect of an impact polypropylene copolymer (IPC) having excellent stiffness–toughness balance on the microstructure and properties of a blend comprising 80 wt% recycled high density polyethylene (rHDPE) and 20 wt% recycled isotactic polypropylene (rPP) was studied. Morphological observations revealed improved interfacial interactions, a finer dispersion state and a more homogeneous phase morphology upon IPC incorporation into the blend up to 20 wt%. Flexural modulus, flexural strength, tensile strength and tensile ductility were steadily increased with IPC loading, and exhibited 13%, 14%, 35% and 520% improvement at 20 wt% IPC. To tackle the air pollution issues, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) are proposed as an appropriate solution. Charging a large amount of PHEV batteries, if not controlled, would have negative impacts on the distribution system. The control process of charging of these vehicles can be centralized in parking lots that may provide a chance for better coordination than the individual charging in houses. In this paper, an optimization-based approach is proposed to determine the optimum PHEV parking capacities in candidate nodes of the distribution system. In this thesis, we explore various methods by which combinatorialists study the connectivity of topological spaces that appear in their field. To this end, we start by defining the topological concepts under discussion, such as simplicial complexes, cohomology, and homotopy groups. We then explain the precise concept of connectivity and prepare ourselves for the final chapter by studying theories such as discrete Morse theory, k-decomposability, and Nerve Lemmas. The first phase of the Alborz Observatory Array (Alborz-1) consists of 20 plastic scintillation detectors each one with surface area of 0.25 m2 spread over an area of 40×40 m2 realized to the study of Extensive Air Showers around the knee at the Sharif University of Technology campus. Morphology of nanodroplets on structured surfaces

Abstract
We report different morphologies of nanodroplets over various topographical features of the supporting substrates. The effects of different parameters such as the profile of the disjoining pressure, droplet size and the geometrical parameters are studied and discussed. Also, the effects of a coating layer on the surface of the substrate are determined. It is demonstrated that the nanodroplets at some positions are not stable and gradually move to more stable positions so that the system has less energy. Mesoscopic hydrodynamic equations are solved employing a VOF based method to investigate the equilibrium shape of nanodroplets positioned over various topographic geometries of the supporting substrate for three-dimensional systems. By taking into account liquid-liquid and liquid-solid interactions a complex distribution for inter-molecular forces over the substrates (the disjoining pressure) is observed.
