Localization Optimization: A Customized Cuckoo approach on DV-Hop Algorithm
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hemmatyar, Ali Mohammad Afshin (Supervisor) ; Mazinani, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Node localization is an important issue in dynamic environments for location-dependent applications of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Geographical location information is necessary in many WSN applications. The goal of localization algorithm is to assign geographical coordinates to each unknown node position. Among different localization algorithms, DV-hop is one of the well- known algorithms. DV-hop algorithm is a range-free algorithm and has significant error in node location estimation. Since the node deployment is stochastic, minimizing this error has a critical role in location estimation accuracy of the algorithm. Increasing communication radius and number of anchors, to the certain...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saghafi, Fariborz (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, maneuverability enhancement of a given twin engine fighter aircraft with integrated thrust-vector and conventional aerodynamic control surfaces havebeen studied. For this purpose a nonlinear 6DOF simulation program base on a near exact mathematical model has been prepared for the aircraft, and then a thrust vectoring system for producing moments about three body axes, like that used in F/A-18, has been added to the simulation. The control method that is employed to control the aircraft in simulation environment is based on Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion (NDI). Finally the Velocity Vector Roll (VVR) maneuver has been considered as an example tostudymaneuverability enhacement. It...
Experimental and theoretical investigation of the impact of crude-oil on the wettability behavior of calcite and silicate due to low salinity effect

Abstract
Wettability alteration is recognized as the main responsible mechanism for enhanced oil recovery during low salinity water flooding (LSWF) in both carbonates and sandstones. However, there is still a lack of understanding about the possible role of oil type on rock wettability alteration during LSWF. In the current study, contact angle (CA), interfacial tension (IFT), and zeta potentials for both oil/brine and rock/brine interfaces are measured for rock/brine/crude oil systems in a wide range of salinity of seawater. Two different crude oil samples and both calcite and silicate as good end-members of carbonate and sandstones are investigated. For oil A, the CA decreases with brine dilution;...
Dynamic Modeling and Localization of a Moving Magnetic Particle in a Fluid for Capsule Endoscopy Application
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nejat Pishkenari, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Endoscopy is a medical operation in which a camera is sent into the patient's body and the physician starts taking pictures at specified times. In the traditional endoscopic procedure, a camera is sent into the body by a guiding wire. This can cause severe pain to the patient. In the newer method, a camera is mounted on a small capsule and the patient swallows the capsule. Then the camera inside the capsule starts taking photos and sends them out. This procedure, in addition to being painless, allows the physician to access the innermost parts of the body or the digestive tract. In capsule endoscopy, unlike the older method, one has to find the position and orientation of the capsule at any...
Indoor Scene Classification by Object Detection
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Manzuri, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Image classification is one of the most challenging issues in computer vision. One sort of such classifications is Scene Classification. To perform automatic classification reserchers used many aproches. The general approach used features directly extracted from the image, such as color and texture or features extracted by the SIFT algorithmetc. Another method is based on recognizing object of the Scene (espessially indoor scene). This method is based on finding of a limited number of prespecified objects. In the proposed method, first a window surrounding each objects, (regardless of the type of object) founded. Then the SIFT feature is extracted from that window. All features (corresponding...

Abstract
Many have claimed that quantum mechanics is playing a non-trivial, i.e. further from merely governing atomic and molecular realm, in living. If so, clearly quantum mechanics should have played a key role in the origin of life especially in the transition from chemical evolution to biological (Darwinian) evolution. Long before quantum aspects of living systems came to focus, It was known that all the amino acids are right handed and all the sugars are left handed in living systems. Bio-molecules having the same sense of chirality, i.e. optical activity, are called biohomochirality. Detailed studies on the structure and functioning of biomolecules buttressed the idea that the selection of...
The Effects of Intentional Process Models on Goal Modeling and Process Conformance Checking
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rafiei, Majid (Supervisor) ; Khedmati, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, requirement engineering and goal modeling have gained more attention among different organisations. Therefore, different methods have been designed to discover stakeholders’ requirements and translate them into process and organizational goals. Various goal models have been introduced to represent these goals and their relations towards each other. Still, these methods are manual representations of different process scenarios and do not relate to the actual behavior. In 2014, Map Miner Method (MMM) was introduced to discover intentional process models from event logs. MMM uses Hidden Markov Model (HMM) as a means to represent the process as a map model of strategies and...

Abstract
A feed forward multi-layer perceptron neural network was developed to predict carbon dioxide loading capacity of chemical absorbents over wide ranges of temperature, pressure, and concentration based on the molecular weight of solution. To verify the suggested artificial neural network (ANN), regression analysis was conducted on the estimated and experimental values of CO2 solubility in various aqueous solutions. Furthermore, a comparison was performed between results of the proposed neural network and experimental data that were not previously used for network training, as well as a set of data for binary solutions. Comparison between the proposed multi-layer perceptron (MLP) network and...

Abstract
One of the methods to increase the hardness of metals, mostly used in aerospace and automobile industries, where light parts with high strength is needed, is precipitation hardening. Nano-precipitates can strongly influence the mechanical properties of materials, especially in a dynamic case. In the present work, attempts have been made so as to make Nano-particles dynamically precipitate in IF steels. Investigating the structure by the means of SEM and AFM resulted in understanding that the precipitates were in nano-size. The micro-hardness of samples was measured as well. © BHR Group 2007 Industrial Processes for Nano and Micro Products

Experimental Study on Extracting Clean Energy from Vortex Induced Vibration
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Two experimental models were designed and tested to extract energy from vortex induced vibrations of a elastically mounted one degree of freedom rigid cylinder in the Reynolds range of 120000 < Re <220000. In the first model the amplitude and frequency of the movement was measured then a second model was designed to be tested in the Emam Hossein marine laboratory. The model was designed in a way that many of its properties like mass ratio, spring constant and damping coefficient were able to be altered. In this study the vortex induced vibration of an elastically mounted cylinder was scrutinized in high Reynolds and very low mass ratios for the first time and an amplitude ratio of 2.49 were...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rafiee, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
As a method of cancer treatment or improvement of cancer-related complications, external radiation therapy is prescribed by physicians, in case of detection of a tumor in a region of patient’s body. Over time, various techniques have been developed for external beam radiation therapy. Among which, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), due to its ability to adjust the intensity of radiation beams, has a higher capacity to generate appropriate dose distribution based on tumor size and volume and it is one of the most widely used techniques in cancer treatment centers. The core process in treatment planning is using appropriate computer algorithms which results in posing enough damage to...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rafiee, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
The aim of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is to provide fast medical care and to transport patients to hospitals at the earliest possible time, so as to reduce injury and fatality rate. Healthcare managers try to improve healthcare systems by reducing the response time to demands. In this thesis, we present mathematical models for the problem of location and relocation of emergency vehicles after the end of their service time or after they have returned to a hospital. We believe that implementing these models can help managers improve the performance of emergency medical services. In the first part of this study, we present a two-level deterministic optimization model considering demand...

Proposing a Solution Algorithm for Operating Room Scheduling Problem Using Open Scheduling and Elective Patient Strategy
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rafiee, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Operating rooms have always been the most expensive and also the most profitable section in hospitals which include approximately one third of cost and two third of income. The management always wants to decrease the cost of hospitals. On the other hand, usually this goal stands against other goals such as patient’s satisfaction. So the manager should make a balance between these goals. In this research, we will propose an integer programming model for operating room scheduling problem without uncertainty for elective patients. In order to make the model more realistic, we want to make connection between operating room theatre and intensive care units. Also, we will consider desirable...
