Effects of various parameters on the coating of substrates with trenches

    , Article 2012 International Conference on Advanced Materials Design and Mechanics, ICAMDM 2012, Xiamen, 5 June 2012 through 7 June 2012 ; Volume 569 , 2012 , Pages 219-222 ; 10226680 (ISSN) ; 9783037854808 (ISBN) Mazloomi, A ; Moosavi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
We investigate thin liquid film coating of substrates with trenches via lattice Boltzmann method. The effects of different parameters such as the capillary number, the contact angles and geometric parameters on the results are studied. Our results indicate that for trench depths greater than a critical size coating of the trench is not successful. The critical depth increases by decreasing the capillary number. Moreover we find height, width, capillary number and contact angle under which the coating is successful. The results have been compared with the available results and very close agreement has been achieved

Thin liquid film flow over substrates with two topographical features

    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 87, Issue 2 , 2013 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Mazloomi, A ; Moosavi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
A multicomponent lattice Boltzmann scheme is used to investigate the surface coating of substrates with two topographical features by a gravity-driven thin liquid film. The considered topographies are U- and V-shaped grooves and mounds. For the case of substrates with two grooves, our results indicate that for each of the grooves there is a critical width such that if the groove width is larger than the critical width, the groove can be coated successfully. The critical width of each groove depends on the capillary number, the contact angle, the geometry, and the depth of that groove. The second groove critical width depends on, in addition, the geometry and the depth of the first groove;...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sajjad Houshmand (Author) ; Adibnazari, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Additive manufacturing (AM) has gained significant attention in recent years as a novel approach to fabricate three-dimensional parts. Its advantages, including high speed, low-cost production for small-scale batches, and greater design freedom, have made it a competitive alternative to traditional manufacturing methods. However, the application of AM for components subjected to fretting fatigue requires careful evaluation. Fretting fatigue is a major cause of failure in turbines, particularly at the contact interface between turbine blade roots and disk. In this study, the influence of AM and post-processing treatments on the fretting fatigue life of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was investigated. Five...

    , Article Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment ; Volume 2012, Issue 10 , 2012 ; 17425468 (ISSN) Esmaili, E ; Moosavi, A ; Mazloomi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    IOP  2012
    Abstract
A multi-component lattice Boltzmann scheme is used to investigate the dynamics of a wettability driven droplet within a microchannel. The driving force for the motion is created by a stepwise change in the wettability of the channel walls. Moreover, an analytical solution is developed for evaluation of the dynamics of the droplet inside the channel. The effects of various parameters such as the height of the channel, the wetting pattern of the channel walls, the viscosity and the density ratio on the dynamics are studied. Also, the effect of grooves of different sizes on the channel surfaces on the dynamics of the droplet is investigated for both hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces....

    , Article European Physical Journal E ; Volume 36, Issue 6 , 2013 ; 12928941 (ISSN) Mazloomi, A ; Moosavi, A ; Esmaili, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
We investigate the time-dependent evolution of thin liquid films over inclined substrates using a multi-component lattice Boltzmann algorithm. Substrates with and without grooves are considered and the effects of the inclination angle on the dynamics and the coating of the substrates are studied. Our results indicate that the dynamics is enhanced and the ridge height and its displacement are increased by increasing the inclination angle. However, by increasing the inclination angle the maximum depth that can be successfully coated is reduced. Also, although for any given groove depth the width should be larger than a critical value for successful coating, the critical width decreases for...

    Abstract
Pricing for an insurance policy can be described as the process of calculation of expected compensation to be paid to property losers as well as associated costs of potential risks. Loss forecast is accurate if the risks will be identified appropriately in order to calculate the frequency and expected severity of losses. This is particularly important about environmental risks since most of them appear in the long run. Environmental risk assessment model is both able to estimate the environmental liability premium for environmental pollution and degradation, and it can play a valuable role in promoting this industry. ELIS (Environmental Liability Insurance) software calculates the...

Face Forgery Detection Through Statistical Analysis and Local Correlation Investigation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asasi, Sobhan (Author) ; Ghaemmaghami, Shahrokh (Supervisor) ; Amini, Sajjad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Existing face forgery detection methods mainly focus on certain features of images, such as features related to image noise, local textures or frequency statistics of images for forgery detection. This makes the extracted representations and the final decision depend on the data in the database and makes it difficult to detect forgery with unknown manipulation methods. Solving this challenge, which is called the generalization challenge in artificial intelligence literature, has become the main goal of researchers in this field. In this thesis, the focus is on extracting effective features for success in forgery detection and preventing the performance of the forgery detection network from...

The preparation of two new bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) platinum(ii) complexes, in which NHC rings are joined by a CH2 linker group, is described. While, the chelate complex [PtMe2(bis-NHC1)], 1, was formed with large tert-butyl wingtips, the iso-propyl N-substituent analogue favors formation of the cluster complex [Pt2Me4(μ- SMe2)(μ-bis-NHC2)]2(μ-Ag2Br2), 2, in which two binuclear platinum(ii) complexes are linked together by an Ag2Br2 unit. The chelating platinum complex 1 undergoes aerial CO2 fixation and forms platinum(ii) carbonate complex [Pt(CO3)(bis-NHC1)], 3

Robustification of Deep Learning Structures Based Ongenerative Models

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haji Mohammadi, Reza (Author) ; Kazemi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Amini, Sajjad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, deep learning has experienced rapid and remarkable advancements, demonstrating exceptional performance in various applications such as computer vision, natural language processing, and autonomous vehicles. These models are continually evolving and expanding, yet they harbor inherent vulnerabilities that prevent complete trust in their reliability. One of the most critical issues is their susceptibility to adversarial attacks, where a clean image is subtly manipulated to create an adversarial example. Adversarial examples, generated by adding imperceptible perturbations to input data, can easily mislead deep learning models into making highly confident yet incorrect...

Analysis and Enhancement of Low Voltage Ride Through Of Wind Turbines with Brushless Doubly Fed Induction Generator

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Gholizadeh, Mahyar (Author) ; Oraee Mirzamani, Hashem (Supervisor) ; Tohidi, Sajjad (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Wind energy technologies guarantee low pollution and operational costs. Using a DFIG and a fractionally rated power electronics converter gives variable speed operation with a low cost drive train. As energy policy organizations have allocated a considerable quota of wind energy generation to offshore wind farms, the absence of slip rings and brushes in the brushless DFIG (BDFIG) is an advantage for offshore wind turbines where maintenance is vital and expensive. With increasing wind power penetration in power systems, grid code requirements are an important consideration for the ride-through capability of wind farms through voltage dips, particularly for multi- MW wind turbine generators....

    Abstract
In this article, a dual-band sixth order double symmetric T-slot filter is proposed for the 5G communication systems. This filter contains two duplicate square resonators and a T-shape feedline on the Rogers RT duroid 5880 substrate. Operating at the 28 and 38.5 GHz frequencies from licensed 5G frequency bands and small size make this filter appropriate for different 5G applications. Furthermore, an LC equivalent circuit for the filter has been considered that helps us to have a better sight of this filter. Measurement results show good agreement with simulations. The attenuation on the passband is less than 1 dB. In order to evaluate the filter performance besides other millimeter waves...
