Numerical Modeling of Hydrothermal Behavior of Geothermal Piles in Sandy Soils
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
This study highlights an important distinction between heat transfer mechanism in dry and saturated soil. Soil temperature data recorded during model tests, soil thermal response predicted using finite difference and analytical methods are compared with finite element models. In recent years, due to the industrial development of human societies, the energy consumption has been increased worldwide. On the other hand, the most commonly used energy resources are non-renewable energies. Therefore, governments and industries aimed to develop a technology which provides economical use of renewable energy sources. One of the renewable energy sources is the geothermal energy of the Earth. In this...
Identifying the Mechanisms of the Relationship between Authentic Leadership and Employees’ Moral Capacities from the Perspective of Self-Determination Theory A Study with a Mixed-Method Strategy
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Alavi, Babak (Supervisor)
Abstract
This research was conducted to identify the mechanisms of how authentic leadership behaviors influence employees' moral behaviors and suggest the processes of this influence. In order to obtain more valid results, a parallel mixed method was used. In that, we employed a qualitative method (data collection through semi-structured interviews) and a survey (distribution of questionnaires). This design was used to test the proposed influence model and to deeply understand the phenomenon of authentic leadership influence on the employees’ moral behavior. In the qualitative phase, 32 in-depth interviews with purchasing agents were conducted regarding the willingness to accept bribes in a company...
Dynamic Analysis of a SDOF Structure Equipped with a Telescopic Damper
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Eskandari, Morteza (Supervisor) ; Mofid, Masoud ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
Abstract
In this research, a single degree of freedom (SDOF) system equipped with a telescopic damper is analyzed under earthquake excitations. In order to assess the effectiveness of telescopic damper, some SDOF systems equipped with other types of dampers including viscous damper, friction damper, T-ADAS damper, and Curadelli’s lead damper(CLD) are also analyzed under similar excitations. Inspired by CLD damper, this TLSD damper is primarily introduced, developed and tested at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran by Mr. Pournamazian in 2016. Results shows that the telescopic lead shear damper can increase the CLD damper displacement by 100%. To get better results in terms of damper’s behavior...
Identifying Gene Expression Patterns in Memory T Cell Development
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohammadzadeh, Hoda (Supervisor) ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor) ; Basiri, Mohsen (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
T lymphocytes or T cells are a type of white blood cell that play an important role in the immune system. Memory T cells are a subset of them that are able to reactivate when being re-exposed to the pathogen. Because of the properties of these cells, they are an attractive choice for immunotherapy. Initial memory subgroups were shown to be more persistently effective in immunotherapies. However little is known about development and differentiation of these subgroups. With the discovery of a new subset of T cells, called T memory stem cells (TSCM), They are considered to develop through four stages, naive T cells (TN), T memory stem cells (TSCM), central memory T cells (TCM) and effector...
