Development of a Framework for Software Architecture Extraction of Existing Projects Based on Their Requirements
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
Abstract
The architecture of a software system, its elements and the way they interact is a valuable treasure for understanding the system. If architecture description of a system is not available, working on its extraction and reconstruction should be done. For a software with huge size and vast complexity, architecture extraction by hand and without any predefined method is nearly impossible. So, it is essential for software architecture extractor to use a framework and a well-defined process related to it, for extracting the software architecture. It can help him to use automated tools as much as possible in addition to havingauniquelogicalstructureforperformingthearchitectureextractionprocess. In...
Probabilistic Evaluation of Steel Moment Frames with Partially Restrained Connections
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Considering connections as ideally rigid or pinned is a common assumption during design and analysis of steel moment frames. However, in real world, steel connections show a non-linear behavior between these two ideal states. The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of partially restrained connections on the design and performance of two-dimensional steel moment frames under vertical and horizontal loads that are applied statically. For this aim, nonlinear finite element modeling is used in probabilistic evaluation process to assess the performance of existing structures. To capture the real behavior of structure in models, geometric and material sources of nonlinearity are...
Reactive Market Power Indices Analysis
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Reactive market power assessment is an important issue for ISOs and the regulators of the reactive power market. Due to the localized characteristics of reactive power as a technical support and its monopsonistic nature as an economic commodity, a vivid reactive market power index including market share, demand side and cost is not achieved yet. In this work, the existing market power indices in simple commodity markets and power markets are reviewed. Then the applicable indices to reactive power are introduced. Then, a new reactive market power index is presented which is based on bidding strategy deviation of the GENCOs in two types of simultaneous reactive markets. Considering its...

Distributed Encoding System in the Presence of Adversarial Sources
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Maddah Ali, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
In communications systems, coding is used to combat channel errors. The redundancy introduced by coding enables the detection and/or correction of errors occurring in the channel. In addition to communications systems, coding is also beneficial in various other systems such as distributed storage systems and blockchain systems to cope with node failures, data erasures, and adversarial behaviors attempting to modify information. In existing applications of coding, it is generally assumed that the encoding operation is performed correctly and without errors, and errors are applied to the encoded data. In recent years, applications have emerged where the assumption of error-free encoding is not...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Ghasemzadeh, Fereidoun (Supervisor) ; Kermanshah, Ali ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
Abstract
The rapid technological changes have faced organizations with a new challenge: old and obsolete knowledge when it hampers organizational change or creates some kind of possible negative impact. Hence, in many cases, companies need to actively deal with such old and obsolete knowledge and their possible negative impacts in order to survive in highly competitive market. Defining unlearning as the intentional process of managing the old and obsolete knowledge in order to reduce its possible negative impacts, this study focuses on how organizations manage their old and obsolete knowledge and how the pattern of unlearning actions varies based on different types of knowledge.

Application of Simulation Optimization in Buffer Allocation Problem Using Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kianfar, Farhad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Simulation optimization has been one of the most important topics in recent years. It is especially useful when the objective function cannot be computed directly or some of the parameters are stochastic. Buffer allocation problem is one of the important problems related to production lines. In this problem the objective is to determine the buffers between workstations so that the throughput is maximized. Non-linear and combinatorial nature of the problem, stochastic factors like machine breakdown or processing times and most importantly lack of a distinct relation for the objective function are the reasons of using simulation ...
Naïve Realism and its Metaphysical Considerations: A Question Based Approach to the Phenomenological Tradition
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Taheri Khoram Abadi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
How is it possible for mind to be directed to the world? Or for it to be opened to the world? This question – formulated as the problem of knowledge - has been the central question of the modern philosophy. Rediscovering of the concept of "intentionality" as the mark of the mental by Franz Brentano, Contemporary philosophy succeeded in addressing this central question in a more direct and explicit a way. Intentional character of mind is more obvious in sensory experiences. Perception seems to be the minds openness to the world. But the possibility of having illusory or hallucinatory experiences challenges that very conception of perceptual experiences as openness. In analytic philosophy...

Abstract
We study the problem of finding a target t from a start point s in street environments with the cooperation of two robots which have a minimal sensing capability; that is, robots do not know any information about the workspace including information on distances, edges, coordinates, angles etc. They just can detect the discontinuities in the visibility region of their location. The robots can detect target point t as soon as it enters their visibility region and have communication peripherals to send messages to each other. Our aim is to minimize the length of the path passed by the robots. We propose an online algorithm for robots such that they move in the workspace and find the target....
Optimization of Process Plant Layout and Pipe Routing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shadrokh, Shahram (Supervisor)
Abstract
Process plants such as refineries and petrochemical plants are complex facilities consisting of equipment, piping systems, instruments, electrical systems, computers, and control systems. Process units design is mostly based on designer`s experience and design general criteria and standards. Using mathematical methods to optimize the design may have an effective role in cost reduction and it would give the designer some general view in case that the exact design is not applicable.
Optimization of Process units is described in this study. This optimization includes the exact location of each equipment, nozzle, pipe rack and also pipe route layouts. Mixed integer linear programming (MILP)...

Abstract
It is beyond dispute that technological change acts as a driver of economic growth. In developing countries where highly suffer from lack of this process, incremental innovation is considered as main source of technology capability building and development In moving toward this pass and to meet with time pressure of catching up, developing countries acquire the initial required knowledge base through technology absorption from outside sources; On the other hand as development is a lengthy process, it is important that the absorbed knowledge still has the potential of more advancement in future. Therefore a selection instrument with ability of assessing different knowledge base or...

, Article Journal of Technology Management and Innovation ; Volume 3, Issue 3 , 2008 , Pages 78-90 ; 07182724 (ISSN) ; Pakneiat, M ; Sharif University of Technology
2008
Abstract
Porter's model of Competitive advantage of nations (named as Diamond Model) has been widely used and criticized as well, over recent two decades. On the other hand, non-mainstream economists have tried to propose new frameworks for industrial analysis, that among them, Sectoral Innovation System (SIS) is one of the most influential ones. After proposing an assessment framework, we use this framework to compare SIS and Porter's models and apply them to the case of second mobile operator in Iran. Briefly, SIS model sheds light on the innovation process and competence building and focuses on system failures that are of special importance in the context of developing countries, while Diamond...
Cooperative Multi-robot for Path Planning
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
This thesis examines cooperating robots with minimal sensing to find the particular target described in unknown surroundings. Due to the very high cost sensor robots, Recently researchers are going to use of simple sensors for robot in special purpose and reduce costs. Of course it is clear that doing so will decrease the accuracy and efficiency of the robot and we are going to provide an efficient algorithm for performing the desired action with a good competitive factor. In this thesis the robots movement is online and robots have no knowledge of their environment (such as maps), they only using the data is gathered from the sensors to decide how to move. The accuracy of this information...
Design and Prototype Blood Warmer
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sayyadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
Warming the injectable blood is a set of methods used to transfuse blood to the supplier (Accident patients, surgery, dialysis). These methods raise the temperature of the injected blood to body temperature. Blood transfusions are performed directly before World War II, so there is no need to heat the blood, Increased need for blood units caused blood banks. In these banks, to prevent the proliferation of pathogens, the temperature of blood units is reduced to 2-6 degrees Celsius. For indirect injection of these blood units, the injection temperature should be brought to the patient's body temperature before injection to prevent the recipient's body temperature from decreasing. In this...

Big Data Application Performance Prediction and Heterogeneous Resource Recommendation in Cloud
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movaghar Rahim Abadi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the last years, we have seen a rapid growth of data generation that leads to an increasing need for data analysis and big data technologies. Meanwhile, cloud computing witnessed great popularity and has become one of the best platforms for big data analytics due to its flexibility and scalability. However, there is not an obvious method for choosing the right cluster configuration for running big data jobs in clouds. Because different big data applications, workloads and cloud configurations can lead to different costs. Moreover, a heterogeneous cluster can use the benefits of distinguished properties of each machine to reduce the cost and execution time of the big data application. The...
Joint pricing and location decisions in a heterogeneous market
, Article European Journal of Operational Research ; Volume 261, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 234-246 ; 03772217 (ISSN) ; Shavandi, H ; Abouee Mehrizi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this paper we consider the problem of joint location and pricing optimization for a firm in a heterogeneous market producing a single product. We assume that customers have a different willingness to pay for the product. We consider two classes of customers who are not uniformly distributed in the market and develop an analytical framework to determine the relationship between the optimal price and location of the firm. We demonstrate that the optimal price and location are closely related to each other, and thus there is a need for simultaneous optimization of the price and location. We provide both analytical and numerical results to illustrate the impact of transportation cost and the...
The Impact of Information Sharing on Performance of an M/M/1 Queueing System
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abouee-Mehrizi, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Social media can be helpful to people in vast areas, especially in queuing systems, in the real world there is remarkably unknown information like service time, average waiting time or average queue length to customers, thus people are likely to share their experiences to posterior customers who want to use the same service. This research examines the impact of user-generated reviews, on the performances of a Markovian queuing system, we assumed that customers are not aware of the service rate, therefore they will assist next customers by writing reviews about their service time they had experienced. We intend to examine the impact of information on queueing performance such as system...
