    Abstract
With the advancement of the technology, Design of low power devices such as biomedical systems, wireless sensor network, portable devices and … has received more attention. Digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) is one of the sub-blocks in systems such as all digital phase locked loop (ADPLL) which consumes the major power of the system. Therefore, Design of a low power DCO will decrease the power consumption of the system significantly.
In this thesis, a digital control oscillator which is ultra low power is design for system on chip applications. Coarse-Fine architecture is used with binary weighted cells in this design. For the Coarse tuning stage, a new delay cell is proposed which...

    Abstract
Eslami and Talebi (2011) [25] proposed an untraceable electronic cash scheme and claimed that their scheme protects the anonymity of customers, detects the identity of double spenders and provides the date attachability of coins to manage the bank database. In this paper, illustrating Eslami and Talebi's scheme, as one of the latest untraceable electronic cash schemes, and showing its weaknesses (in fulfilling the properties of perceptibility of double spender, unforgeability and date attainability of coins) and its faults (related to exchange protocol), we propose a new untraceable electronic cash scheme which is immune to the weaknesses of the former. Our scheme contains anonymity,...

Face Recognition Improvement Using Boosting Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Baseri Salehi, Negar (Author) ; Kasaei, Shohreh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Biometrics has been long known to recognize persons based on their physical and behavioral characteristics. Face recognition (FR) is one of such biometrics that has received a considerable attention in recent years both from the industry and research communities. As the boosting framework has shown good performance in face recognition, it has been adopted in this work. This thesis deals with pattern recognition methods such as linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and machine learning approaches such as boosting which are integrated to overcome the technical limitation of existing FR methods. However, LDA-based methods often suffer from the so-called “small-sample-size” (SSS) problem arising...

    , Article ICCMS 2010 - 2010 International Conference on Computer Modeling and Simulation, 22 January 2010 through 24 January 2010, Sanya ; Volume 2 , 2010 , Pages 89-93 ; 9780769539416 (ISBN) Baseri Salehi, N ; Kasaei, S ; Alizadeh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Boosting is a general method for improving the accuracy of any given learning algorithm. In this paper, we have proposed the boosting method for face recognition (FR) that improves the linear discriminant analysis (LDA)-based technique. The improvement is achieved by incorporating the regularized LDA (R-LDA) technique into the boosting framework. R-LDA is based on a new regularized Fisher's discriminant criterion, which is particularly robust against the small sample size problem compared to the traditional one used in LDA. The AdaBoost technique is utilized within this framework to generalize a set of simple FR subproblems and their corresponding LDA solutions and combines the results from...

    Abstract
Mu and Varadharajan proposed an electronic voting scheme and claimed that their scheme authenticates the Voters, protects the anonymity of them, and detects the identity of double voters. Due to some weaknesses in Mu-Varadharajan scheme, several modified schemes have been proposed by Lin et al., Hwang et al., Rodríguez-Henríquez et al. and Asaar et al.; however this paper shows that these schemes suffer from some weaknesses in fulfilling the pointed properties. For this purpose, we get Hwang et al. scheme as a case study and apply our new attacks on it. Also we consider the applicability of the attacks on other pointed schemes. In addition, we present a new scheme and show that the scheme...

Investigation of Impurities and Structural Defects in Graphene

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rostami, Melika (Author) ; Faez, Rahim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis the effects of impurities and different defects on electrical and magnetic properties of monolayer and bilayer graphene is investigated. Calculations are performed using density function theory. Alloying monolayer graphene with boron and nitrogen the energy gaps of 0.7 and 0.6 eV are obtained, respectively. Moreover, we show that BN is a good candidate for opening the band gap in graphene. Alloying monolayer graphene with BN the energy gap of 1.2 eV is obtained. Another way of opening band gap is to somehow break the symmetry between layers of the bilayer graphene. By alloying one layers of bilayer graphene with B, N or B-N, although the symmetry of layers is broken, each...

Also, to maximize accuracy, we also considered the edge bond reconstruction. To obtain the transport characteristics of the transistor, such as the transmission coefficient and the density of states (DOS), Poisson and Schrodinger equations are solved self-consistently. We used the nonequilibrium...

    Design of Graphene Spintronic Devices

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Barami, Soode (Author) ; Faez, Rahim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Magnetization have an important role in spintronic devices based on graphene. In this study the effect of stone-wales and vacancy defect on electrical and magnetic properties of zigzag and armchair graphene nanoribbons were investigated. Calculations are performed using tight-binding and hubard model combining with Green's function techniques. When the balance between A and B sub-lattices gets disturbed, magnetization will be appeared. In stone-wales defect we have local magnetization because of changing the position of sub-lattices and the total magnetization is zero. In addition the stone-wales defect can change and modify the band structures and band gaps. Vacancy of carbon atom in...

Simulation and Comparative Study of Tunneling FETs Based on Graphene Nanoribbon and Phosphorene Monolayer

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Almasi, Hossein (Author) ; Faez, Rahim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we simulate and investigate two transistors which both have tunneling FET (TFET) structure but the channel in the first one is graphene nanoribbon (GNR) and in the second one is a monolayer of phosphorene (PML). To describe the quantum systems of the transistors, we use the tight binding method and its models for the channel materials. In case of the PML TFET, based on the behavior of the phosphorene nanoribbon in different widths, we obtain a proper amount for the width to model the infinite-width channel. To extract the channel quantum transport, the Schrodinger-Poisson equations are self-consistently solved. In the next step, we simulate the GNR TFET and present the...
