Probabilistic Analysis of Soil-Structure Interaction Effects on Seismic Performance of Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirzaie, Fariborz (Author) ; Ghannad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor) ; Mahsouli, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis studies the effect of soil-structure interaction on the seismic performance of structures with due account of uncertainties. The motivation for this study stems from the significant uncertainty in the earthquake ground motion and in the properties of the soil and the nonlinear behavior of the structure. The soil-structure system is modeled by the sub-structure method. The uncertainty in the properties of the system is described by random variables that are input to this model. Monte Carlo sampling is employed to compute the probability distribution of responses that describe the seismic performance of the structure, such as the ductility demand. In each sample, a randomly...

In this field of research, image-based high-throughput assays are amongst the most effective and cost-effective methods that help quantify the response of treated cells by measuring cell...

Representation Learning for Heterogeneous Information Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirzaie, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Beigy, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Around world and the networks within it can be modeled in various templates. Graph structure is one of those templates in which objects and relations may have more than one types. We call this phenomenon "heterogeneity".Heterogeneity makes the networks hard to model and that is why the proposed methods for modeling the networks assumed the network structures homogeneous. This assumption may cause data loss due to ignoring the variety of types in network objects and relations and this loss can lessen the accuracy of data mining tasks. To tackle the challenge of data loss in the mentioned assumption, learning representations for heterogeneous information networks (HINs) was introduced. HINs...

    , Article Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences ; Volume 32 , 2012 , Pages 197-203 ; 18770428 (ISSN) Mirzaie, K ; Fesharaki, M. N ; Daneshgarb, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Trust is needed to facilitate cooperation and delegation among agents in a multi-agent system. This paper proposes a trust model based on Capra cognitive framework. This framework explains social phenomena from the four perspectives of structure (agent), pattern (network), process, and meaning. We assume trust as "meaning" in the proposed model. Every agent has properties such as personality, responsibility, and specialty. Interaction among agents is based on friendship network. OODA, as a general process for decision making, is used for updating the trust in the simulation run

The soil-structure system is modeled by the sub-structure method. The uncertainty in the properties of the soil and the structure is described by random variables that are input to this model. Monte Carlo sampling analysis is employed to compute the...

    Abstract
The aim of this study is to employ feedback control loops to provide a stable forward dynamics simulation of human movement under repeated position constraint conditions in the environment, particularly during stair climbing. A ten-degrees-of-freedom skeletal model containing 18 Hill-type musculotendon actuators per leg was employed to simulate the model in the sagittal plane. The postural tracking and obstacle avoidance were provided by the proportional—integral—derivative controller according to the modulation of the time rate change of the joint kinematics. The stability of the model was maintained by controlling the velocity of the body's centre of mass according to the desired centre of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi Zadehgan, Ali Akbar (Author) ; Ghafari, Ali (Supervisor) ; Meghdari, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main goal of this thesis is the design and development of a rehabilitation device for helping patients “to improve blood circulation” & retain and recover their abilities if possible that were lost during the stroke or a accident like that (my research in karaj/iran shows that it is possible by just movement of the specific body part). The focus is on hand in this thesis because Injuries to the hand are common and can be very debilitating since our hands are our primary means for interacting with our world. For rehabilitation in case of human hand there are several practices that should be done for patients either in home or in a rehabilitation center, time and money that is supposed to...
