Static and Dynamic Postbuckling of Stiffened Laminated Composite Conical Shell

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Bohlooly Fotovat, Mehdi (Author) ; Kouchakzadeh, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor) ; Mirzavand Boroujeni, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation, the buckling and postbuckling analysis of lattice conical shells are presented. The outer skins of the shell may be reinforced by cross-ply laminated composites. The shell is subjected to uniform axial compression and the boundary conditions are simply supported. This problem is solved using two different approaches. At first approach, the main priority is high speed calculations, which is investigated in static and dynamic types of loadings. In the case of static loads, the equilibrium equations are formulated based on the classical theory and von Karman type of nonlinearity. The equations are solved by Galerkin method and a closed-form relation is derived. In the case...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirzavand Boroujeni, Niloufar (Author) ; Eshghi, Koroush (Supervisor) ; Sadri, Farzaneh (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The Nurse Scheduling Problem (NSP), is one of the most complicated problem in health care management systems. The problem is to determine a work schedule by considering some requirements such as governmental policies, staff and their managers satisfaction, etc. Nowadays, while the demand of treatment centers for nurses has increased especially in hospitals, the population of qualified nurses has decreased. In such a fuzzy situation, the managers of the treatment centers want a better nurse scheduling in order to increase the quality of giving services to their patients and consequently increase their income. In this thesis, a two-stage nurse scheduling problem with uncertainties in...

Calculating the Scattering Cross Section of the Photons Scattered from Particles Associated with the Fifth Force Field in MOG Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirzavand, Mahdi (Author) ; Rahvar, Sohrab (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we first review MOdified Gravity (MOG) theory as an alternative to dark matter models and then investigate some of the phenomena related to galaxy dynamics and gravitational lensing within the framework of this theory. In the last step, we present a model for the interaction of the fifth force field and the electromagnetic field. This model is based on the definition of a current density of matter using the energy momentum tensor in which the Lorentz symmetry is broken. This is due to the existence of a constant coefficient in the interaction, which can be considered as a fixed background field or observer 4-velocity that couples to energy momentum tensor. After introducing...

    Abstract
In this paper a wave approach has been introduced to study the performance of a distributed amplifier. The time domain response of a FET is obtained by means of the fully distributed model. By applying the procedure to a pi-gate GaAs MESFET, the S matrix is computed from time domain results over a frequency range of 2-20 GHz. Scattering parameters of gate and drain lines are extracted from three-dimensional FDTD simulation. The result obtained by this wave approach is compared with device lumped model and Quasi static approach of transmission line. © 2007 IEEE

    Abstract
In this paper, we report on the design and analysis of filters and lenses realized by an array of metallic posts integrated in a parallel-plate waveguide (PPWG). The design methodology of these components is inferred from the modal analysis of a spoof surface plasmonic waveguide composed of metallic posts arranged in a 1D periodic structure inside PPWG. Samples of the proposed devices are analyzed using a full-wave analysis method and their performance is assessed. We show that the mentioned structure can be used to realize all-metallic band-pass filters and lenses for mm-wave and terahertz applications

    Abstract
A theoretical approach is presented to derive an explicit formula for buckling load and postbuckling path of advanced grid stiffened conical shells (stiffeners with laminated composite skins). Different types of fiber paths of grids including stringer, ring, and helical are considered. The simply supported truncated conical shell with imperfection is subjected to axial compression. Basic formulations are constructed using the classical theory of shells and von Karman type of nonlinear strain-displacement relationships. The equilibrium and compatibility equations are solved by Galerkin procedure, and an explicit relation is obtained to predict the equilibrium paths. Results for different...

    Abstract
Dynamical instability characteristics of sandwich truncated conical shell are investigated. The three-layered shell is composed of advanced grid stiffened core and laminated composite skins. The core maybe made of three different fiber paths. The conical shell with simply-supported ends is subjected to two different types of time-dependent axial compressions. The equations of motion and compatibility are derived by considering Kirchhoff-Love assumptions and von Karman relations. The solution procedure is divided to two steps. First, the terms consisting of spatial derivatives are eliminated by applying a stress function and following the Galerkin method. Second, the terms with temporal...

    Abstract
Edit distance is one of the most fundamental problems in combinatorial optimization. Ulam distance is a special case of edit distance where no character is allowed to appear more than once in a string. Recent developments have been very fruitful for obtaining fast and parallel algorithms for both edit distance and Ulam distance. In this work, we present an almost optimal MPC algorithm for Ulam distance and improve MPC algorithms for edit distance. Our algorithm for Ulam distance is optimal in the sense that (1) the approximation factor of our algorithm is 1 + ϵ, (2) the round complexity of our algorithm is constant, (3) the total memory of our algorithm is almost linear (OH(n)), and (4)] the...

    Abstract
The Haptic device is capable of interacting dynamically with the operator by the forces it can exert on human's hand. Controlling the haptic device and constraining it through the desired trajectory is the common task in the most of the training systems. Haptic interface application in virtual Persian handwriting learning system is investigated in this paper. Two different modes of learning is investigated: The full guidance mode, guides the user to follow a prerecorded trajectory by applying proper force to operator's hand; whereas in partial guidance, combination of haptics andvisual feedback guides the operator and prevents deviation from the desired trajectory. © 2009 IEEE

    Abstract
One of the shortcomings of photoconductive (PC) antennas in terahertz (THz) generation is low effective radiated power in the desirable direction. In this paper, we propose a defective photonic crystal (DPC) substrate consisting of a customized 2D array of air holes drilled into a solid substrate in order to improve the radiation characteristics of THz PC antennas. The effect of the proposed structure on the performance of a conventional THz PC antenna has been examined from several aspects including radiation efficiency, directivity, and field distribution. By comparing the radiation performance of the THz antenna on the proposed DPC substrate to that of the conventional solid substrate, it...

    Abstract
In this paper, arrays of two different terahertz (THz) antennas based on defective photonic crystal (DPC) substrates are proposed and their radiation characteristics are investigated by using full-wave simulation. We show that employing DPC substrates in THz photoconductive antenna (PCA) arrays reduces the amount of power coupled to the substrate surface waves and, as a result, decreases the mutual coupling between the elements of the antenna array and increases the directivity in the boresight direction. By studying 1 × 2 arrays of bowtie and four-leaf-clover-shaped antennas, we show that either the improvement of directivity in a broad bandwidth or the enhancement of photomixer antenna...

    Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the effects of temperature and magnetoelastic load, on the free vibration of an elastomer sandwich beam with magnetorheological (MR) core and functionally graded material (FGM) constraining lamina under high temperature environment. This sandwich beam is named FGMR beam in this paper. The material properties of the functionally graded material layers are assumed to be temperature-dependent and vary continuously through-the-thickness according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Also, it is assumed that the beam may be clamped, hinged, or free at its ends and is subjected to one-dimensional steady-state heat...

Design of Optimum Antennas for Wideband THz Pulses Generation Using Photoconductivity

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmati, Ehsan (Author) ; Ahmadi-Boroujeni, Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most common devices for terahertz (THz) wave generation and detection is a Terahertz photoconductive antenna. Impedance matching between the antenna and the photoconductive material is a primary factor to obtain high optical-THz conversion efficiency. Because of the time dependant conductivity of the photoconductive material, impedance mismatching is an obstacle for generating high power THz pulses. Moreover, the range of laser power (when using Ti:Sapphire) from the excitation source varies from a few tens of milliwatts to a few watts while the radiated THz power as compared to this laser pump power is very low (in the order of a few μW); this means a low power conversion...

    Game Theory in Computational Biology

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Safarnejad Boroujeni, Mahdi (Author) ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, game theory passed from areas of economics and socials to other fields such as computational biology and bioinformatics. Several evolutionary games and cooperative games have been defined to predict the behavior of nonrational agents in interaction situations arising from computational biology. One of the these main applications is using Shapley value. Shapley value allocates a fair value to each player, in games that each coalition has a profit. But in many cases the computation of Shapley value is #P-complete. Thus, the goal is to optimally find Shapley value or to approximate it in each game.Another option is Banzhaf index. One of the essential games on genes is Pathway game....

    Abstract
This research deals with a realistic cyclic three-stage supply chin consisting of one supplier, one manufacturer and one or more retailers, in FMCG environment. Orders from retailers are supposed to iterate over cycles and parallel machines are available to process perishable jobs with given release dates, due dates and deadlines. To start process of he jobs, perishable raw material, supplied by an external supplier, is required. Jobs are subject to post-production shelf life limitation and must be delivered to retailers during the corresponding time window bounded by due dates and deadlines. Both early and tardy jobs are penalized by partial weighted earliness/tardiness functions and the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Malekian Boroujeni, Negin (Author) ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mathematical modeling and computer simulation are powerful tools to help cancer research because they provide a good insight of cancer progression and an efficient framework to test biological hypothesis. Most of the previous studies ignored many intracellular communication between tumor cells. Gap junction is one of the interaction ways between tumor cells which plays a crucial role in cancer progression. In the first phase of this thesis, a model of intracellular communication through gap junction using evolutionary game theory scoring is proposed. In the second phase of this thesis, cancer is modeled by Markov decision process (MDP). Given that considering nutrient level constant is one...

Processing Queries with Mathematical Expressions on Encrypted Outsourced Databases

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naseri Boroujeni, Saeed (Author) ; Jalil, Rasool (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The ever-increasing volume of data and the lack of computational and storage facilities have caused a managerial challenge to organizations. The existence of these challenges on the one hand and the increase of storage services on the other hand have compelled the organizations to delegate their storage and management of data to the server providers of cloud storage services. The outsourcing of data to servers obviates the need for purchasing exorbitant storage equipment and recruiting professional workforce in the organization. Since the organization’s data will be kept outside the organization’s ambience in case of using such services in form of outsourcing, and the data will not be under...
