Abstract
The ion exchange process is a promising method for lithium extraction from brine and seawater having low concentrations of this element. To achieve this goal, it is vital to use an effective adsorbent with maximum lithium adsorption potential together with a stable structure during extraction and insertion of the ions. In this study, titanium dioxide and then lithium titanate spinel with nanotube morphology was synthesized via a simple two-step hydrothermal process. The produced Li4Ti5O12 spinel ternary oxide nanotube with about 70 nm diameter was then treated with dilute acidic solution in order to prepare an adsorbent suitable for lithium adsorption from local brine. Morphological and...

The Effects of Statistical Information on Customers’ Attitude Towards Risk and Ambiguity: Life Insurance Case
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Talebian, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Aslani, Shirin ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
Abstract
Decision about insurance is affected by how customers evaluate possible future scenarios. Our purpose is to find out whether providing statistical information about probabilities affect the customers’ willing to take life insurance or not. In other words, we want to know if people are ambiguity averse in the context of insurance. Means that if they are more willing to take insurance when the loss probability is vague or when it is known. We will separate the respondents into two groups and will provide half of them with information about the death probability in their age zone, and will not inform the other half about this probability. Then ask both groups their willingness to take a life...

Abstract
In this paper, a novel method as a combination of the expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm and Variogram is proposed to decompose the longitudinal measurement errors in the absence of replications and the presence of multiple instrumental measurement errors. In the proposed method, multiple measurements are considered where the units are observed by several distinct instruments (gauges). The approach decouples the observed variance of the measurement model into the process and measurement system variances. In addition, it decomposes the variance of multiple instruments into the process and instrument variances. In the end, the proposed model is validated and tested based on simulated...
Characterization of Lithium Presence in Brine and Extraction of Lithium from Brine Resources of Iran
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Askari, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Nusheh, Mohammad (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
One of the basic resources for lithium extraction is brine which is very abundance in Iran. It is important to characterize these brines and their compositions to select a suitable method for lithium recovery from them. By investigation of the local brines and determining lithium and other alkali metals composition in them, the ion exchange process using titanium dioxide ion-sieve with nanotube morphology is suggested as highly effective method for lithium extraction from Iranian brines. Due to high advantages of hydrothermal process, TiO2 nanotubes were produced by this method and the optimum parameters of hydrothermal reactions were reported. In this way, hydrogen titanate nanotubes with...

Abstract
For many years, computer designers benefitted from Moore's law and Dennard scaling to significantly improve the speed of single-core processors. The failure of Dennard scaling pushed the computer industry toward homogenous multicore processors for the performance improvement to continue without significant increase in power consumption. Unfortunately, even homogeneous multicore processors cannot offer the level of energy efficiency required to operate all the cores at the same time in today's and especially tomorrow's technologies. As a result of lack of energy efficiency, not all the cores in a multicore processor can be functional at the same time. This phenomenon is referred to as dark...
Temporal prefetching

Abstract
Many applications, including big-data server applications, frequently encounter data misses. Consequently, they lose significant performance potential. Fortunately, data accesses of many of these applications follow temporal correlations, which means data accesses repeat over time. Temporal correlations occur because applications usually consist of loops, and hence, the sequence of instructions that constitute the body of a loop repeats many times, leading to data access repetition. Temporal data prefetchers take advantage of temporal correlation to predict and prefetch future memory accesses. In this chapter, we introduce the concept of temporal prefetching and present two instances of...

Abstract
Many applications extensively use data objects with a regular and fixed layout, which leads to the recurrence of access patterns over memory regions. Spatial data prefetching techniques exploit this phenomenon to prefetch future memory references and hide their long latency. Spatial prefetchers are particularly of interest because they usually only need a small storage budget. In this chapter, we introduce the concept of spatial prefetching and present two instances of spatial data prefetchers, SMS and VLDP. © 2021 Elsevier Inc

Abstract
In this study, the authors explore a generalised scheme for the synchronous code division multiple access (CDMA). In this scheme, unlike the standard CDMA systems, each user has different codewords for communicating different messages. Two main problems are investigated. The first problem concerns whether uniquely detectable overloaded matrices (an injective matrix, i.e. the inputs and outputs are in one-to-one correspondence depending on the input alphabets) exist in the absence of additive noise, and if so, whether there are any practical optimum detectors for such input codewords. The second problem is about finding tight bounds for the sum channel capacity. In response to the first...
