An Optimization Model for Water and Energy Network based on Process Simulation for Production of ETBE from Biomass

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Modiri, Mahshad (Author) ; Avami, Akram (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Fossil fuel usage caused global warming and other environmental problems. Recently, biofuels are considered as an important alternative. However, the efficient usage of water and energy in their production may accelerate their diffusion. ETBE is a kind of oxidizing fuel additive that can be biologically produced from the ethanol reaction. High water and energy consumption in the production and separation process is still a challenge. In this work, the ETBE production from lignocellulosic feed are considered. Then, the effect of different parameters are investigated by performing sensitivity analysis. In the next step, the optimal pathway of water and energy use in the production of ETBE are...

    Abstract
Machine to machine (M2M) communication, which is also known as machine type communication (MTC), is one of the most fascinating parts of mobile communication technology and also an important practical application of the Internet of Things. The main objective of this type of communication, is handling massive heterogeneous devices with low network overheads and high security guarantees. Hence, various protocols and schemes were proposed to achieve security requirements in M2M communication and reduce computational and communication costs. In this paper, we propose the group-based secure lightweight handover authentication (GSLHA) protocol for M2M communication in LTE and future 5G networks....

GSL-AKA: group-based secure lightweight authentication and key agreement protocol for M2M communication

    , Article 9th International Symposium on Telecommunication, IST 2018, 17 December 2018 through 19 December 2018 ; 2019 , Pages 275-280 ; 9781538682746 (ISBN) Modiri, M. M ; Mohajeri, J ; Salmasizadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Nowadays, one of the most important criterions in designing of different generations of mobile cellular technology is to handle a large number of heterogeneous devices with high security guarantees. The first significant security issue considered in this field is mutual authentication of the devices and the network and key agreement between them. Hence, various authentication and key agreement (AKA) protocols were proposed for Long Term Evolution (LTE) and future 5G networks. However, each of the protocols suffers from security and non-security problems. This paper proposed a group-based secure lightweight authentication and key agreement (GSL- AKA) protocol for machine-to-machine (M2M)...

Studing and Optimization of Combined Geothermal Heat Pump and Solar Collector to Heating and Cooling Load Supply for Dwellings

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Modiri, Danial (Author) ; Rajabi, Abbas (Supervisor) ; Boroushaki, Mehrdad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Combined geothermal heat pump and solar collector system is a kind of load supply system for dwellings and greenhouses that operates by relying on renewable energies. The advantage of this system over conventional systems is lower power consumption. The aim of this study is to optimize the hybrid system so that in addition to reducing energy consumption and exergy destroied of the system, economically be minimized. In fact, in this study, we are dealing with an issue that should be optimize from different aspects. firstly, thermodynamic modeling for vertical ground source heat pump is done and then by considering 11 decision variables, the system is optimized by using single-objective and...

Assessment of water-energy-emissions nexus in wastewater treatment plants using emergy analysis

    , Article Environment, Development and Sustainability ; Volume 25, Issue 10 , 2023 , Pages 11905-11929 ; 1387585X (ISSN) Modiri, M ; Haj Hasan, A ; Zafari koloukhi, H ; Rostami, F ; Tafazzoli, M ; Avami, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The aim of this study is to quantify the water-energy-emissions nexus in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). At first, energy auditing is done for two real WWTPs to find out the energy consumption of different plant stages and the energy-saving potentials. The power plant and carbon capture units are taken into account to assess the energy-emission nexus based on emergy flows. Then, the emergy analysis is applied to evaluate the environmental, economic and technical aspects. An emergy performance index (EmIGHG) is presented by the means of emergy flow diagram of the WWTP beside a power plant (considering the electricity production emergy cost) and carbon capture unit (considering the CO2...
