Numerical Modelling and Experimental Validation of Nano Colloid Droplet Formation in the Electrohydrodynamic 3D Printer

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Kaivan (Author) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Khodaygan, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Co-Supervisor) ; Mofrad, Mohammad Reza (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The electrohydrodynamic (EHD) 3D printing technology is an Additive Manufacturing (AM) method that can be used in the manufacture of submicron-size structures. Due to the multiphysics dynamics and the multiphase nature of the microdroplet formation in the EHD printers, modeling of this phenomenon is complicated. In this thesis, the formation of a droplet in an EHD printer—under a pulsed electrical field—is simulated using a new numerical model which couples the fluid flow, the electric field distribution and the movement of the electric charges under dynamic and transient conditions. The level-set method is applied to the entire multiphysics domain in order to study the formation of the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abdollahi Mofrad, Younes (Author) ; Vosoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor) ; Roostaazad, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Alpha amylase enzyme is one of the most important enzymes used in a wide range of industries. The enzyme is used in industries such as detergents, food, pharmaceuticals, paper making and textile. Various national and international articles have been published on this enzyme that focused on specific targets. Despite the extensive studies carried out in this area inside the country, there is still no industrial production of alpha amylase and other enzymes in our country. In the view of the fundamental problem of the lack of industrialization of these studies, in addition to the lack of a riskier investor, it seems that there is a lack of industrial vision in these studies. In this study, the...

A misbehavior‐tolerant multipath routing protocol for wireless Ad hoc networks [electronic resource]

, Article International Journal of Research in Wireless Systems (IJRWS) ; Vol. 2, Issue 9, pp. , Sep. 2013 Sedghi, H. (Haniyeh) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza ; Aref, Mohammad Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Secure routing is a major key to service maintenance in ad hoc networks. Ad hoc nature exposes the network to several types of node misbehavior or attacks. As a result of the resource limitations in such networks nodes may have a tendency to behave selfishly. Selfish behavior can have drastic impacts on network performance. We have proposed a Misbehavior-Tolerant Multipath Routing protocol (MTMR) which detects and punishes all types of misbehavior such as selfish behavior, wormhole, sinkhole and grey-hole attacks. The protocol utilizes a proactive approach to enforce cooperation. In addition, it uses a novel data redirection method to mitigate the impact of node misbehavior on network...

Robust Optimization of Portfolio with Stock Options

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hassanzadeh Mofrad, Maryam (Author) ; Modarres Yazdi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we apply robust optimization to analyze the uncertainty of model parameters of a portfolio optimization which contains stock options. We also develop two robust counterpart models for single period and multiperiod problems. By assuming that the probability distribution of parameters is not known, their uncertainty is considered to lie within known linear intervals. Due to the existence of nonlinear relations (piecewise linear) between uncertain data (stock and option price), we present an over-conservative robust model to make the solution feasible for all parameters. However in the second model by adopting a different approach we develop a robust counterpart model with...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faham Mofrad, Ali (Author) ; Outokesh, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Shafiekhani, Azizollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study graphene and graphene adsorbent for the Co2+ ion were created from sodium phenoxide and calcium phenoxide, respectively, using the chemical vapor deposition method, and their chemical, physical, and morphological properties were investigated using FT-IR, UV, XRD, Raman, TEM, FE-SEM, and XPS. The results suggest that the optimum reaction condition for synthesizing mono-layer and multi-layer graphene is the 750 °C temperature for 30 min. The Co2+ adsorbing properties of the synthesized graphene adsorbent from calcium phenoxide was investigated. The investigation of solvation properties suggests insolubility above 650 °C and the kinetic data suggest the rapidness of the Co2+...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Daraei Bafi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Ashtiani Mofrad Tehrani, Farid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the proliferation of mass media such as smartphones and the use of social networks, the exchange of video data between users has increased, and according to forecasts in the coming years we will see significant growth in the amount of this data on mobile networks. In this dissertation, we examine the effect of sending video packets via LTE and WiFi and try to calculate two parameters that affect the quality of experience, namely the probability of interruption and the amount of delay. The modeling results show that if the packets are optimally routed to these two paths, there is about a 15% improvement in the probability of interruption. Sending packets from two separate routes Although...

Analysis and Improvement of Intrusion Detection Methods in Data Network Routers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamshidi, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
High-quality online services demand reliable and fast packet delivery at the network layer. However, clear evidence documents the existence of compromised routers in the ISP and enterprise networks, threatening network availability and reliability. A compromised router can stealthily drop, modify, inject, or delay packets in the forwarding path to launch Denial-of-Service, surveillance, man-in-the-middle attacks, etc. So researches tried to create intrusion detection methods to identify adversarial routers and switches. To this end, data-plane fault localization (FL) aims to identify faulty links and is an effective means of achieving high network availability. FL protocols use...

Effect of the Geometry of Colloidal Particles on Nematic Liquid Crystals

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Masoumeh (Author) ; Ejtehadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Mozaffari, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
A liquid crystal is a state of matter composed of highly anisotropic building blocks. When liquid crystals are exposed to surfaces with given shapes and anchoring conditions, the orientation of their molecules gets spatially disordered and topological defects may form in the system. The interplay between liquid crystals and the geometry and topology of the colloidal particles has motivated extensive recent studies. In this thesis, we present the numerical modeling results for two faceted colloidal particles in a thermotropic nematic liquid crystal. To obtain the equilibrium nematic field with a finiteelement method, we numerically minimize the free energy of the system that based on the...

    Abstract
Providing high bandwidth network infrastructures for ever increasing need of data transport is of great importance. The underling infrastructure for many communication services such as GSM/3G/4G mobile networks and Internet services is Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) optical transport systems. SDH are standardized protocols that multiplex multiple lower rate digital bit streams, such as E1 and Ethernet, and transfer them synchronously over optical fiber using lasers or LEDs. In addition to high data transfer rates, flexible network management and protection mechanisms have great importance, hence are part of SDH standards. In order to obtain flexible network architecture and protected...

    Preserving Privacy in Smart Grid

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vahedi, Erfaneh (Author) ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Development of Smart Grid and deployment of smart meters in large scale has raised a lot of concerns regarding customers’ privacy. Consequently, several schemes have been proposed to overcome the above mentioned issue. These schemes mainly rely on data aggregation as a method of protecting users’ privacy from the grid operators. However, the main problem with most of these schemes is the fact that they require a large amount of processing power at the meter side. This, together with the fact that smart meters don’t usually have a powerful processor, can cause the unavailability of smart meter data at the required time for operators of the grid, and at the same time disables smart meters from...

Aerodynamic Design Methodology for Changing Axial Compressor Capacity

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mofrad, Ehsan (Author) ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Axial compressor design is a very complex and expensive process. In general, for design and development of a new axial compressor, manufacturing companies usually intend to employ an existing and successful axial compressor as an starting point and modify and upgrade it. In this regard, dimensional scaling is a common method for derivative axial compressors. The goal of dimensional scaling is to get a different capacitywhile minimizing the development time and cost. In this thesis, theNASA eight stage transonic axial flow compressor is chosen as the base model for dimensional scaling to lower and upper size of its original dimension. The scaled compressor is analyzed with a quasi 2-D code....

Jamming Resilient Algorithms for Rendezvous in Cognitive Radio Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei, Roohollah (Author) ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Dynamic spectrum access with the aid of cognitive radio (CR) technology is a viable solution to spectrum scarcity. There are many military and emergency applications that require the use of cognitive radio ad-hoc networks (CRAHNs). In these net- works, nodes must first find each other in a wide spectrum and then exchange their desired data. The process of finding each other in a multichannel environment is a challenging task and is usually known as rendezvous. Since rendezvous is the first step in communication, disrupting will disable the nodes from establishing proper communication sessions. That results in a drastic degrade in the performance of the network. Therefore, it is important to...

Assessing and Improving Algorithms to Control the Propagation of Light through Scattering Media

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fayyaz, Zahra (Author) ; Rahimitabar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Nasiriavanaki, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Light propagation through turbid media, such as biological tissues, experience scattering due to inhomogeneous distribution of refractive indices of their microscopic structure. Scattering and diffusion of light not only limit many optical imaging techniques, but are also big challenges for telecommunication, spectroscopy, and other optical techniques. Recently many new imaging methods are developed that work in strongly scattering media such as optical coherence tomography, diffusion tomography, and laser speckle velocimetry. In this thesis, we have studied how wavefront shaping techniques can tackle the problem of scattering. By spatially shaping the wavefront of the incident beam, using...

    , Article International Journal of Pharmaceutics ; Volume 645 , 2023 ; 03785173 (ISSN) Mozhdehbakhsh Mofrad, Y ; Shamloo, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2023
    Abstract
Injectable hydrogels are a promising treatment option for nervous system injuries due to the difficulty to replace lost cells and nervous factors but research on injectable conductive hydrogels is limited and these scaffolds have poor electromechanical properties. This study developed a chitosan/beta-glycerophosphate/salt hydrogel and added conductive aligned nanofibers (polycaprolactone/gelatin/single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT)) for the first time and inspired by natural nerve tissue to improve their biochemical and biophysical properties. The results showed that the degradation rate of hydrogels is proportional to the regrowth of axons and these hydrogels’ mechanical (hydrogels without...
