Detectivity optimization of large-area freestanding-type YBCO superconducting bolometric detectors is theoretically and experimentally investigated. The effect of the device thermal parameters on the theoretical total noise-equivalent power based on background radiation, thermal fluctuation, and Johnson noise is considered. By analytical optimization of the total noise-equivalent power (NEP) of the device with respect to the thermal parameters and radiation modulation frequency, the maximum sensitivity and optimal thermal parameters of the bolometric detector are obtained. Abstract
The effect of substrate thickness and its Debye temperature on the bolometric response of the freestanding-membrane type of superconductor transition-edge detectors is investigated. The investigation is based on the calculation of the variation of the specific heat per unit volume and the heat conductivity using the finite-size scaling method for different Debye temperatures and micron size thickness of substrate. We also calculated the heat capacity and time constant for various materials with Debye temperatures in the range of 600-1400 K. The infrared range optical absorption mechanism of carbon-copper composite thin layer coated on the diamond-like carbon buffer layer has been investigated. By consideration of weak interactions between copper nanoparticles in their network, optical absorption is modelled using their coherent dipole behaviour induced by the electromagnetic radiation. The copper nanoparticles in the bulk of carbon are assumed as a chain of plasmonic dipoles, which have coupling resonance. A terahertz modulator based on the Type-II superconductor flux flow oscillator has been proposed. Analytical calculations are presented and the effects of intrinsic and extrinsic parameters such as disorder strength of crystal, penetration depth, frequency, and amplitude of the modulated current on the radiation power spectrum have been studied. The proposed structure also exhibits a mixer-like behavior, in the sense that its output harmonics range from the washboard frequency up to the superconductor gap frequency, so the input signal is practically mixed with the washboard frequency and its harmonics. In this work, we have investigated and presented the bolometric response of freestanding membrane type of superconductive transition-edge detectors at micro-scale and submicron-scale substrate thicknesses. The technique applied here is based on the finite-size scaling method which is now extensively used for the calculation of thermal parameters of materials at low dimensions when the significance of surface energy contribution is not negligible compared to that of the total bulk energy. Abstract
We present a new approach for analytical modeling and calculating the response of high-Tc superconductive transition edge sensors in a wide range of modulation frequencies for different configurations of the film patterns. The method used here is based on solving the heat transfer differential equation for two different time varying heat sources, which are related to the absorbed radiated power. The used method employs two-dimensional boundary conditions for describing meander-line patterned devices. The Navier-Stokes and Brinkman-Forchheimer equations were used to model the fluid flow in the free and porous regions, respectively.
